PEWTERREPORT.COM CHAT TRANSCRIPT – 10/7/08 pewterreportjf: Hello, Bucs fans. Let the PewterReport.com chat session begin. detroitbuc: Hi whats up on the trad front any news?? pikappaphi422: What is the latest on Brian pewterreportjf: No news on the trade front as it pertains to the Bucs. I know a lot of fans want to see the Bucs trade for a wide receiver like Detroit's Roy Williams, but the team has to be willing to do that. The Bucs would have to also be willing to agree to the compensation required for the player. detroitbuc: yeah and that wont happen pewterreportjf: pikappaphi422 – Brian Griese was sore on Monday. We won't know more until Wednesday, but my guess is Jeff Garcia might get the start vs. the Panthers on Sunday. pikappaphi422: What is the chance that joey gives it a go on Sunday detroitbuc: Zero pewterreportjf: pikappaphi422 – I don't think Joey Galloway will play vs. the Panthers. pikappaphi422: Will bennett get more carries this week nbuto001: Do you think the offense can rebound from an embarassing showing in Denver? detroitbuc: will Gruden get more creative this week pikappaphi422: Can Zuttah play right tackle??? If so any chance he pushes trueblood? pewterreportjf: pikappaphi422 – Michael Bennett might be active this week, but I don't think he'll get carries on offense. Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn will carry the workload at running back. pikappaphi422: What is the latest on Caddy? detroitbuc: our O just sucks and wont get any better pewterreportjf: nbuto001 – I do think the Bucs offense can rebound from its woeful outing in Denver, but I have some serious concerns about the offense. The wide receivers aren't getting much separation and their yards after the catch have been horrible. The quarterback play has been suspect at best. I don't think opposing defenses are respecting Tampa Bay's quarterbacks, which is hindering the offense's efforts. Tampa Bay's red zone offense has also been horrible. nbuto001: It's been well documented that the Bucs like to use the trade deadline. Who are the options this year? pewterreportjf: pikappaphi422 – No, there's no chance Jeremy Zuttah replaces Jeremy Trueblood at right tackle. Trueblood needs to play better than he did vs. Denver. The Bucs have a second-round pick invested in him and he needs to live up to expectations and play consistently. detroitbuc: i am sorry but JG has had enough time to try and get the job done and he has not guest: and who would u replace him with??? pewterreportjf: pikappaphi422 – We'll find out about Cadillac Williams next week, which is when the Bucs can make a decision on Williams in terms of placing him on injured reserve or activating him. buc77: why was Garcia the #2 qb this past week guest: What do you think it will take for McCown to get his shot? pikappaphi422: I saw dexter once at WR how many plays did he make at WR and will he see more pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – Jon Gruden better get more creative this week because Carolina's defense is very good. I think Tampa Bay's offense is going to have a difficult time moving the ball on Carolina, which is why I picked the Panthers to beat the Bucs on Sunday. I wouldn't mind being wrong, but I don't like the way the Bucs match up with the Panthers. detroitbuc: same here jf pewterreportjf: nbuto001 – Bruce Allen has made a trade deadline deal every year since he's been in Tampa Bay (2004). The Bucs need to trade for a wide receiver that can get separation from defensive backs and stretch the field, but I'm not sure if they'll be able to get one. The Bucs could also trade one of their own players. If Cadillac Williams returns, I think Michael Bennett could be traded. pikappaphi422: What could they get for bennett detroitbuc: send Bennett to cincy for TJ and a #2 pick pewterreportjf: buc77 – Jon Gruden moved Jeff Garcia to the No. 2 quarterback position because of Brian Griese's interception problems. Garcia has slowly been working his way back into action. I think he may get the start this week. guest: hy would anybody trade a decent WR for a RB who has not played for almost a year? pewterreportjf: pikappaphi422 – Dexter Jackson was in at wide receiver for a play, but he's not considered a legit wide receiving threat. He needs to work on returning punts and kickoffs. He clearly has work to do in that area. outkast22: Why hasnt my man Luke McCown sniffed the driver's seat….. buc77: why not Luke at #2 detroitbuc: he holds the ball to long guest: Is Caddy well enough to play or will he be back on IR? pewterreportjf: outkast22 – That's a great question. For some reason, some of the coaches aren't that high on Luke McCown. I understand that he needs to get rid of the ball in a more timely manner, but he was clearly the best quarterback in camp during the first week and he wouldn't throw six interceptions in two games like Griese did. If Jeff Garcia gets the start vs. the Panthers and struggles I think the Bucs might have to seriously consider playing McCown, who is in the final year of his contract. nbuto001: What teams do you think would be good options to look at a deal? The redskins have good young wideouts, but I doubt they would trade any of them. I wouldn't mind Antwaan Randel El. detroitbuc: man that would be nice jf guest: Is it Gruden thats not very high on him? evanbro18: anyone here pewterreportjf: guest – We'll find out if Cadillac Williams is ready to play next week. I think the Bucs should place him on injured reserve in order to make sure he fully recovers from the torn patellar tendon. There's a big difference between being able to run on your knees after a torn patellar tendon and being able to play football again. I just don't see where Williams will fit in if he comes back since Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn are handling the workload and the team can't even get Michael Bennett carries right now. guest: I would like to see Caddy on IR also just for safetys pewterreportjf: No teams that are in the playoff hunt are going to part ways with good players. Roy Williams in Detroit seems to make the most sense for a trade, but we don't know if Detroit is willing to trade him or what they'd ask for him. outkast22: Its totally bananas that Bennett hasnt seen the field or touched the ball detroitbuc: all i know is the Saints O is off the hook guest: JF Clayton seemed to be doing well with Greise – does BG have a better relationship or what? guest: You have to wonder how much of a future Caddy has with this team… detroitbuc: yeah put Bennet in space and let jim jet guest: Can Bennett return kicks? outkast22: I dont see how they could ask for anything more than a 2nd which is the same deal made for Chris Chambers last year and they had similar numbers pewterreportjf: guest – None of Tampa Bay's wide receivers are doing well. Clayton and Hilliard are averaging less than 10 yards per catch. At least Hilliard has three TD catches. Bryant is averaging just 12 yards per catch. That's not good enough. The Bucs sorely miss Joey Galloway, and I'm not sure he's coming back anytime soon, which is not good news for Tampa Bay. detroitbuc: whatever they ask Bruce needs to give it nbuto001: I don't expect a blockbuster deal to take place like Roy Williams, who do you think is a good young WR that hasn't had his chance to shine? outkast22: Why havent we used Bennett like the 'Aints use Bush..toss him a swing pass and let him use his speed in space…or why havent we seen one screen pass or reverse to Jackson pikappaphi422: Do you still see the bucs going 10-6 pewterreportjf: nbuto001 – With the exception of Dexter Jackson, all of the young wide receivers on Tampa Bay's roster have had a chance to shine, and they haven't done it lately. Michael Clayton and Maurice Stovall need to step up and find a way to separate better, and of course, catch the ball. detroitbuc: but JF if our WR dont have speed how can they seperate?? guest: OK guys just get over it – Jackson ain't going see the field as WR till the coachs have faith in him – and that isn't going to any time soon. pewterreportjf: outkast22 – I'm not sure why the Bucs haven't used Michael Bennett more, especially when he's been active. Tampa Bay needs to get better play from the WRs and QBs, not the RBs. outkast22: Im not hapy with the play-calling or utilization of talent on the roster….a lot of shifts and motions, creating mismatches and the like but we have moved away from bootlegs, no flea-flickers, HB passes….the creatvity in our play selection is lacking guest: How come Gruden doesn't use Stovall like he uses Stevens? nbuto001: How about around the league? Are the any good young WR's out there that would be under the radar steals that the Bucs should look at? outkast22: true..we do need more from the WRs guest: Need to use Stevens more – he gets great mismatches outkast22: sinorice moss (nbuto001)….. nbuto001: yeah that's a good one pewterreportjf: pikappaphi422 – The Bucs could still go 10-6, but their offense needs a remedy to its QB, WR and red zone woes, and in a hurry. The good news is Tampa Bay's schedule over the second half of the year looks favorable. The bad news is Carolina's schedule looks favorable as well. outkast22: chad jackson is at home watching football on directv guest: syndey rice? nbuto001: I thought the same thing about chad jackson, I think you an I spoke about that on the board, outkast22. pewterreportjf: nbuto001 – I don't see the Bucs trading for a wide receiver that no one knows about. They need proven talent at this point. detroitbuc: and quick pewterreportjf: I have to get going, Bucs fans. Great questions tonight. Thanks for joining the PewterReport.com chat session. Enjoy Sunday's game between the Bucs and Panthers. It's going to be a good one!
