Pewter Report Buccaneers beat writer Jim Flynn hosted a 30-minute chat session at 1:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Pewter Report provides a full transcript of the chat session below.

Flynn is identified as pewterreportjf. His chat room identity is bolded below. The chat transcript reads from top to bottom.

: Hello, Bucs fans. Let the chat session begin.
guest: How are the negotiations with Bryant and Flip?
detroitbuc: hey
dabucfan: I am constantly having to correct the misinformation my family reads in the fishwraps
jc510: JF… does the new regime like Jovan Haye?
dabucfan: Any word on Graham's recovery?
detroitbuc: JR do u think we will take aQB in the draft
guest: Any chance of Julius Peppers
elias: jr?
pewterreportjf: guest – Negotiations are taking place between the Buccaneers and wide receiver Antonio Bryant, who is scheduled to become a free agent on Feb. 27. That's about all we can tell you at this point. We have heard that the Bucs will consider using the franchise tag on Bryant if they can't re-sign him to a long-term deal. We'll keep you updated.
1vabucsfan: JF Do the Bucs like Bo Scaife and please say there is no intrest in Edge James?
talib 25: With WRs like Chad Johnson, Plaxico Burress, Anquan Boldin, and Torry Holt available in trade, is there any chance the Bucs would trade for a WR?
pewterreportjf: jc510 – Tampa Bay has been trying to sign Jovan Haye to a long-term deal for over one year. Haye might be regretting the fact that he did not take the Bucs up on their offers since he registered zero sacks in 2008, a contract year. In his defense, Haye was hurt, but the Bucs need more production from their starting under tackle. If the Bucs sign Albert Haynesworth in free agency Haye likely is gone.
pewterreportjf: dabucsfan – Earnest Graham is recovering fine from ankle surgery, from what we understand. He should be ready to go when the Bucs begin practicing again.
detroitbuc: whats up with Dra moore
buc 63: Any chance we look at either Giant RB in FA?
talib 25: What are the chances the Bucs sign Terrell Suggs if he's available?
roger4680: was EG's "sprain" a fracture, like in Galloway's case?
pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – Yes, I still think there's a good chance the Bucs are not done at quarterback and could take one as early as the first round in the 2009 NFL Draft. The player we've heard the Bucs like is Josh Freeman from Kansas State. Some media reports have tried linking New England QB Matt Cassel to Tampa Bay, but I'm not sure the Bucs are willing to trade at least a first-round pick for him nor are they prepared to give him the long-term, lucrative deal he will be looking for from a new team.
dabucfan: JF – Has there been any talk of a trade for Boldin?
talib 25: If they go DT in the first round, would they look at someone like Nate Davis in the 2nd?
elias: JF- what about Jermaine Phillips? Do you think we're going to try to keep him around, or does this regime seem more faithful in Sabby?
bucs21: do you think that mcown is the starter next year?
buc 63: Isn't SR a K State alum? What is his take on Freeman?
detroitbuc: does everyone like the BUC new staff
pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – Yes, the Bucs like tight end Bo Scaife. He's actually one of the top 5 free agents we listed at the tight end position in our Free Agency Preview, which will be published and mailed to subscribers soon. Scaife had a really productive 2008 season for the Titans.
pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – Dre Moore was on the practice squad his entire rookie season and needs to become a contributor on the active roster this year. Otherwise, that fourth-round pick will be deemed a bust. Moore has got to be more consistent in terms of conditioning and motor.
detroitbuc: JF if the BUCs beef up the D can we win the divison??
bryant89: Now that Luke McCown has been signed who else are tops on the bucs offseason QB list
talib 25: Christoper Simms?
bryant89: Talib we got you a hockey story right up your alley
detroitbuc: lol
pewterreportjf: buc 63 – Yes, the Bucs could be interested in Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward –both N.Y. Giants running backs. New York could franchise Jacobs, though. You could definitely make the case for the Bucs needing an upgrade at running back given Warrick Dunn's age and Cadillac Williams' history of injury problems.
bucs21: JF do you think McCown is the starter in 2009
talib 25: With WRs like Chad Johnson, Plaxico Burress, Anquan Boldin, and Torry Holt available in trade, is there any chance the Bucs would trade for a WR?
detroitbuc: so fare the new staff are making the right moves??
bryant89: With WRs like Chad Johnson, Plaxico Burress, Anquan Boldin, and Torry Holt available in trade, is there any chance the Bucs would trade for a WR
1vabucsfan: JF Will the Bucs have any involvement with players like SS James Butler,CB Bodden and LBs Boley and Dansby?
talib 25: What are your thoughts on Terrell Suggs?
jc510: JF… Alex Smith has had his moments and seems like a good team guy, will he be back?
pewterreportjf: talib 25 – You can expect the Bucs to be seriously interested in signing Julius Peppers and Terrell Suggs in free agency … if they make to the open market. Peppers says he wants to play in a 3-4 scheme, but make no mistake — he'll go to whichever team pays him the most. It will be tough for the Bucs to sign Peppers or Suggs and Haynesworth, but they have $46 million in cap room and could try. The Bucs would see a lot of value in stealing Peppers away from a division rival like Carolina, and new D.C. Jim Bates puts extra emphasis on the speed-rushing DEs.
1vabucsfan: JF you guys said the old regime liked a few guys like Devery Henderson and JJ Arrington is there any one still around that does at OBP?
pewterreportjf: dabucfan – The Bucs haven't told us much regarding their interest in Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin. I am sure the Bucs are interested, but it has a lot to do with Arizona's asking price. The Bucs are in the market for at least one wide receiver, and they have the money to sign Boldin long term.
buc 63: Do you think Coach Morris will be able to ask DB to step down or Rhonde to move to nickle? That is, if it is warrented?
talib 25: What's the chance that Chris Simms is signed back to the Bucs? The Glazers like him and he wants to come back to Tampa. What do Dominik and Morris think?
bucs21: JF do you think McCown is the starter in 2009
pewterreportjf: roger – The Bucs told us Earnest Graham has an ankle sprain, so that is all we have to go off of right now. If it's worse, it wouldn't be the first time the Bucs were misleading with the injury report. :)
bryant89: What are the chances of bryant staying a buc?
roger4680: thanks
talib 25: I think McCown will be the starter, unless a better QB comes available in a trade or FA.
bryant89: With WRs like Chad Johnson, Plaxico Burress, Anquan Boldin, and Torry Holt available in trade, is there any chance the Bucs would trade for a WR?
pewterreportjf: elias – If you asked me if Jermaine Phillips would stick around in 2009 before Raheem was promoted to defensive coordinator and head coach, I would have said no chance. However, Phillips loves Morris, and the Bucs see value in having Phillips and Sabby Piscitelli on their roster. If Phillips were to stay in Tampa Bay he'd have to take less money to sign here. Otherwise, the Bucs would have to let him move on.
talib 25: Already answered Bryant. The Bucs are in the market for another WR.
bryant89: Oh didn't see that
talib 25: I definitely think Phillips will stay.
elias: i hope flip stays
pewterreportjf: bucs 21 – It's too earlly to say whether Luke McCown will be the starting QB of the Bucs in 2009. He will be given a shot. It all dependds on who else the team signs/drafts. McCown has a decent shot as of right now.
bucs21: thanks
talib 25: Bryant will stay a Buc. There's just a 50/50 chance of him being franchised or getting a long-term deal. I think he may get franchised.
bucs21: any word on how cadillac is progressing?
pewterreportjf: buc63 – You'll have to get SR's thoughts on Josh Freeman. Scott seems to have mixed views on him. Great at times, horrible at others. Freeman seems to have all of the physical tools. Just a matter of consistency.
bryant89: caddy is done IMO
pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – A lot of the players are vacationing right now, so many of them have not met the new coaches yet.
bryant89: Have any good running back ideas in the mid rounds of the draft?
1vabucsfan: JF Is the team still targeting Devery Henderson?
detroitbuc: when the players get the newplaybook???
bryant89: devery has hands of steel
pewterreportjf: bryant89 – Yes, the Bucs could be one of the teams interested in trading for a veteran wide receiver like Anquan Boldin, but they have a lot of needs that need to be addressed in the draft, so the Bucs aren't going to part ways with premium draft picks unless it's a good deal and addresses a need.
guest: Hello JF…I have heard rumblings that our veteran D players will not be good fitss in Bates' system. Do you see us going much younger on D this year?
bryant89: thanks
pewterreportjf: jc510 – Alex Smith needs to step up and turn in a solid 2009 season. He has been too inconsistent in terms of catching the football and staying healthy. Tampa Bay could be looking for an upgrade at tight end, whether it is through the draft or free agency.
bucs21: JF any word on how cadillac is progressing?
bryant89: Does Paris Warren have a shot at the starting roster, providing he stays healthy?
pewterreportjf: talib 25 – I'd say the chances of Chris Simms returning to Tampa are zero. I have received no indication from the Bucs that they are interested in bringing him back. He does have the arm for the vertical offense, but I don't see Simms coming back.
talib 25: Thank God!
bryant89: hopefully McCown doesn't end up like him
pewterreportjf: bucs21 – The Bucs feel Cadillac Williams will be ready by the time the 2009 regular season rolls around, but they need a contingency plan. He has durability issues and the Bucs can't count on him long term. That's why the Bucs could sign a free agent running back or draft one this year.
bryant89: Too bad for the Cad.
talib 25: Is there any chance Maurice Stovall is a bigger part of our offense?
bryant89: Does Paris Warren have a shot at the starting roster, providing he stays healthy?
elias: JF- I keep hearing about this new "vertical offense"…I'll admit i don't know much about Coach Jags' style, but does this mean we'll become a pass-happy team like a Mike Martz offense? Or will we still try to focus on "pounding the rock?"
bucs21: stovall is too slow for the new vertical offense
guest: JF…I read CC's latest article where he would pick up Leftwich to compete for the starting role. Do you agree? I live in Jax and the big knock on him here is that he doesn't make quick decisions.
pewterreportjf: bryant89 – I don't think he'll make it to the mid-rounds, but I love Oregon RB Jeremiah Johnson, and I know the Bucs do, too. I just don't see them using their second- or third-round pick on Johnson, though.
talib 25:
elias: whoa!
elias: lol
talib 25: If only he could have caught the ball!
detroitbuc: lol
jc510: Stovall is still young, think he turns 24 this week
talib 25: I want him to become more a part of our offense or at least get a shot.
bucs21: haha nice pic
bryant89: He really is aHEAD of the play
roger4680: Stovall is a heck of a ST player
pewterreportjf: talib25 – Maurice Stovall better become a bigger part of the offense if he wants to stick around. He lights it up in training camp each year, but that doesn't translate into success in the regular season. It needs to, especially if Michael Clayton leaves in free agency since Stovall is physical.
bryant89: Does Paris Warren have a shot at the starting roster, providing he stays healthy?
pewterreportjf: bryant89 – No, I don't think Paris Warren has much of a shot of making the 53-man roster. The Bucs need to get younger and more talented at the WR position. They are also trying to re-sign Antonio Bryant.
roger4680: JF – why did the Bucs spend a 2nd round pick on DJ – any what is his future?
talib 25: Terrell Suggs is the guy I want!
bucs21: since the bucs said they will make one big offseason splash signing, who will it be?
dabucfan: What does he call himself…Darth Sizzle?
talib 25: T SIZZLE
pewterreportjf: guest – It will be interesting to see what Jim Bates does with Tampa Bay's current defensive personnel. He has no loyalty to some of the older guys like Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber and Kevin Carter. I do not believe Carter will return. I do think Barber and Brooks will stay. Remember — Bates has not discriminated against older players as long as they are still productive. Don't be surprised if the Bucs express an interest in signing DE Jason Taylor or LB Zach Thomas if they become available. Both players thrived under Bates in Miami.
guest: What are the chances the Bucs pursue recently released Leigh Bodden over Phillip Buchanon?
dabucfan: Is Taylor a FA or just likely to be released?
detroitbuc: please no zack
talib 25: Since the Bucs are going to a vertical offense, will Dexter Jackson be more involved?
bryant89: Dwight Smith was released would he be an option if Jermaine Phillips didn't return
pewterreportjf: roger – The Bucs were desparate when they drafted Dexter Jackson in the second round last year. There was a run on speedy receivers before their pick. So, they rolled the dice and lost on Jackson. Some Bucs people still believe Jackson could pan out as a receiver, but I think he's done as a return man as long as Clifton Smith is in Tampa Bay.
elias: lol, talib
talib 25: I wouldn't mind Jason Taylor at all!
roger4680: thanks – but I think new org can cut him without looking bad
detroitbuc: i think Dex will be ok at WR
roger4680: or try to get a low round pick as comp
pewterreportjf: dabucfan – Jason Taylor could be released by the 'Skins. Zach Thomas is a free agent. Both are aging veteran players, but the Bucs could take a look at them since they played well for Jim Bates in Miami.
dabucfan: Thanks JF
bucs21: since the bucs said they will make one big offseason splash signing, who will it be?
roger4680: Photo Caption: "Look ma, no YAC!"
elias: JF- I keep hearing about this new "vertical offense"…I'll admit i don't know much about Coach Jags' style, but does this mean we'll become a pass-happy team like a Mike Martz offense? Or will we still try to focus on "pounding the rock?"
pewterreportjf: guest – the Bucs would prefer to have Phillip Buchanon back, but don't be surprised if Tampa Bay inquires about Oakland CB Nnamdi Asomugha if he hits the free agent market.
pewterreportjf: elias – No, I don't think Jeff Jagodzinski's offense will be pass-happy. The team will put a lot of emphasis on running the football in the zone blocking scheme. But when the Bucs do pass, a lot of it will be play-action and deep. Jagodzinski also likes to involve the TEs and RBs in the passing game.
bryant89: It's not a running style of offense but you will see a downfield passing attack implemented for sure.
elias: thanks, jf….that's what i like to hear :)
talib 25: The McNabb rumors are already starting to spread. Is there any chance he won't be back with the Eagles next year?
roger4680: so basically – the exact OPPOSITE of JG's offense. Sounds exciting
guest: did I make it in time?
talib 25: McNabb to the Bucs?
detroitbuc: no
guest: damn, this central time!
pewterreportjf: Here's something I just wrote about in our Free Agency Preview. The Bucs have $46 million in salary cap room, and there are some big-name free agents scheduled to hit the market, but the Bucs can't sign all of them. They need to save cap money for some of their own free agents-to-be, like Jeremy Trueblood, Barrett Ruud, etc. We do expect the Bucs to make a splash in free agency, but not the type a lot of you are probably hoping for.
guest: at least that's nice to hear
guest: we can shop at nieman marcus now
roger4680: are the Bucs committed to Jeremy Trueblood? He commits more penalties than Kenyatta Walker!
buc 63: Need to extend Ruud asap
guest: Is there any news on the Bucs search for the rest of their coaching staff?
guest: Do you think Clayton and Bryant will be back – who do you see us letting go (Clayton, Bryant, Haye, Buchanon)?
pewterreportjf: talib25 – I would have said that the Bucs would be interested in trading for Donovan McNabb if Jon Gruden were still the head coach in Tampa Bay, but now I'm not so sure. I'm sure the Bucs would inquire about McNabb, but I don't see him coming to Tampa Bay. I would never say never, but that's my gut feeling right now.
bryant89: no he doesn't kenyatta walker commits more penalties than a serial killer
roger4680: hahaa
roger4680: but Trueblood acts like a serial killer sometimes
guest: i'm afraid to ask a question because it might have been answered, but how's antonio bryant's contract talks going?
guest: Do you still see us going after Peria Jerry if he is on the board?
pewterreportjf: One of the first splash free agent signings the Bucs could make is punter Shane Lechler. He is the best punter in the NFL and is scheduled to become a free agent. The Bucs noticed how they were outpunted in the last game of the regular season, and Lechler was the guy doing it.
roger4680: hmmm…thought Bidwell was pretty solid
roger4680: not the best but solid
bryant89: Give Ruud a 15 year 715 million contract
talib 25: That's what I thought too. Thanks JF.
pewterreportjf: guest – Yes, I could see the Bucs drafting Peria Jerry if he's still on the board at 19 in the first round. The Bucs are in the process of negotiating with Antonio Bryant's agent on a new deal, but that's about all the info we have. We're hearing the Bucs could franchise Bryant if they can't sign him to a long-term deal.
bryant89: hockey like
guest: What do you think we will do at RB? Caddy is hurt again, Graham is overrated and never played a full season, Dunn cannot do it long-term so do we draft a Jeremiah Johnson in the second, third or fourth round?
pewterreportjf: I've got to get going, Bucs fans.
guest: Thanks again Jim
dabucfan: Thanks for the info and time JF
roger4680: thanks!
pewterreportjf: Thanks for the great questions. Be sure to check back with several times a day as you never know when Bucs news is going to break.
