The Chat Session was held from 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, February 19, 2008.

Pewter Report editor-in-chief Jim Flynn hosted the 30-minute chat session and answered questions from Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans. provides Bucs fans with a transcript of Tuesday's chat session below.

Flynn is identified as pewterreporrtjf His chat room identity is bolded below.

The chat transcript reads from top to bottom.

pewterreportjf: Hello, Bucs fans. Let the chat session begin.
pipelayer8: how many times do we have to watch the Tyree catch
dominico: forever
tbc_bucs: Rod Coleman, any updates on his status, id Atlanta release him yet?
illinoisbucfan: What does Indy tagging Clark do to the Bucs TE search?
guest: for those who didn't see – Dallas Clark finally got the franchise tag from Indy
pipelayer8: That ups the demand for Crumpler's services
pewterreportjf: tbc_bucs – As far as I know the Falcons just released Rod Coleman or Alge Crumpler, which is why they have not been on any visits yet, including one to Tampa Bay.
pipelayer8: JF is Mike Jenkins a real possibility for the Bucs at 20?
pewterreportjf: Illinoisbucfan – With Alge Crumpler becoming a free agent, Indy's decision to tag Dallas Clark doesn't hurt as much. Plus, the Bucs believe there's a chance Philadelphia will release L.J. Smith from the franchise tag at some point, so he's still a possibility.
guest: It's not like NFL teams didn't see it coming – Same with the Jared Allen situation and how that impacts Justin Smith – NFL teams had to have already factored that into their free agency plans
dominico: Any word on extensions for Haye, Penn, White?
tbc_bucs: With Jared Allen being franchised, at this point does that deter the Bucs from looking at DE's in FA? Do you think the price will now be too high for Justin Smith?
jordanxxiiifan: who do you think will be are starting rb in 08
pewterreportjf: pipelayer8 – Well, the Bucs are in the market for a cornerback. Is it their most pressing need? No, but I do believe the Bucs would give serious consideration to drafting USF CB Mike Jenkins if he falls to them at No. 20 in the first round.
pikappaphi422: which CB in the draft do you like the best
pipelayer8: Thanks
pewterreportjf: tbc_bucs – Tampa Bay expected Jared Allen to get franchised by Kansas City, and he did. Expect the Bucs to make a strong push for Bengals DE Justin Smith in free agency.
dbo2440: any word on a ring of honor?
guest: JF – Are you expecting the Bucs to make an immediate signing once free agency starts?
illinoisbucfan: How strong of a push JF? Are they talking about getting into a buying war for his services?
pewterreportjf: dominico – Don't worry about Donald Penn and Greg White. They are exclusive rights free agents and likely will sign their tenders. Whether they receive extensions this year is unclear. The Bucs likely will re-sign Jovan Haye, who is a restricted free agent.
detroitbuc: will we go after Lance Briggs
detroitbuc: will we go after Lance Briggs
justhorne: what do you think of the younger cromartie kid? he sure made some plays senior bowl week
dominico: he needs to hit a weight room
pewterreportjf: pikappaph422 – I really like USF CB Mike Jenkins. I know I'm a USF Bull, but I feel like he'll have just as good — if not a better NFL career than Anthony Henry. I like Jenkins' speed and playmaking ability. He'd be a good fit in Tampa Bay, but I'm not sure he'll fall to the Bucs at 20, especially if he has a good showing at the Combine.
tbc_bucs: What positions do you think th scouting department will be most heavily on at the scouting combine this week?
guest: SR/JF Is there a chance the Bucs sign MMOORE AND STILL DRAFT ANOTHER?
dbo2440: any word on a ring of honor?
pewterreportjf: db2440 – Regarding the Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame, you'll want to check out the latest issue of Pewter Report (The Free Agency Preview/Mike Alstott Tribute issue) for the answer to that question. I think you'll like what you read.
guest: are the bucs intrested in limas sweed to me he could be this years calvin johnson if he runs a fast 40 time
dbo2440: thanks, good to hear, now theres another reason I will be looking forward to that issue
pewterreportjf: illinoisbucfan – Don't expect the Bucs to overpay for anybody. They didn't last year and I don't expect them to this year. However, the Bucs hinted strongly at the Senior Bowl that they would be more aggressive in free agency this year.
pipelayer8: What is the status on the Graham negotiations?
pewterreportjf: guest – I don't expect the Bucs to make an immediate signing shortly after free agency begins at midnight on Feb. 29. However, I do expect the Bucs to start scheduling some visits right after free agency begins.
tbc_bucs: What positions do you feel will be the top priority for the scouting department at the NFL combine this weekend?
spider100378: if sweed doesnt hurt his wrist at texas he could have been a top 10 pic
pewterreportjf: guest – Yes, expect the Bucs to pursue Vikings RB Mewelde Moore in free agency. Even if they sign Moore, there still is a chance the Bucs would draft a running back, although I don't think it would be a first-day pick.
dbo2440: i have heard up to ten teams are going to make an effeft for alge, is that true, and do you know how many teams will be going after cloeman
pikappaphi422: Any FA they are looking at that is currently under the radar
pewterreportjf: guest – Tampa Bay is in the market for a wide receiver. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if wide receiver was what the Bucs went with in the first round. Sweed is a player the Bucs will consider.
dbo2440: coleman
tbc_bucs: Do you think there is a chance we look at Donte Stallworth in FA if NE does not keep him?
pewterreportjf: tbc_bucs – Tampa Bay's scouting department will have its eyes on the quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, centers, guards, defensive linemen and cornerbacks at the Combine.
spider100378: sweed is what gruden likes but he no clayton he has speed he track in college
spider100378: ran track
pewterreportjf: spider – The Bucs need to get faster on offense, particularly at the wide receiver position. That said, don't expect the Bucs to take any receivers that are similar to Michael Clayton or Maurice Stovall.
pipelayer8: I'd prefer flat bunner like Donnie Avery
guest: What are the chances of the Bucs trying to aquire Javon Walker? He would be a great addition for cheap
justhorne: every year us buc fans pray for a good punt and kick returner to be drafted. do you think this could be the year?
pikappaphi422: do you like any of the wr in the 1st rd, "MUST HAVE Wr"……I don't
pewterreportjf: pipelayer – Donnie Avery is a possibility for sure, and he'll probably be there at No. 20 in the first round. I can't wait to see how Avery and some of the other receivers fare at the Combine.
spider100378: true but is manningham the answer he regressed last year at michigan avery could be had in the second or third round
guest: Avery at #20 would make me physically sick
tbc_bucs: Do you expect to target any QB's in FA? You know Gruden loves to have insurance on top of insurance policy
dominico: manningham had his best year last year
tbc_bucs: expect us to that is
pewterreportjf: pikappaphi422 – I don't expect any of this year's wide receiver prospects to be labeled a "must have" player, like Calvin Johnson last year. The good news for the Bucs is this draft is fairly deep at running back and wide receiver. We also believe the Bucs will pursue Donte' Stallworth in free agency.
pipelayer8: I've seen Avery graded out at round 2, do you think he'll be there?
spider100378: actually dominico his junior yr was his best
pewterreportjf: tbc_bucs – That's a position to keep an eye on. If Jake Plummer plays for the Bucs the team will not make the quarterback position a priority. However, if Plummer doesn't play for Tampa Bay, we're hearing that the Bucs could show significant interest in Chicago QB Rex Grossman in free agency.
illinoisbucfan: If Stallworth can get those hamstrings to stay loose, he would be a good pickup
bmarti5: Any word on Crumpler and any concerns of his age/injuries?
cadillac 24: I'm here finally!
guest: I think the Bucs should do whatever it takes to bring in Larry Fitz
pewterreportjf: pipelayer – Yes, some people believe WR Donnie Avery will be drafted in the second round, but I think he could move up into the first round if he has a good showing at the Combine.
guest: I bet Grossman returns to Chicago and starts
pewterreportjf: guest – Tampa Bay likes WR Larry Fitzgerald, but he doesn't have the speed the team is looking for. Make no mistake, though – Fitzgerald is one heck of a player, but I don't expect to see the Bucs trading for him this offseason.
illinoisbucfan: I wouldn't mind a Garcia, Grossman, McCown trifecta
pipelayer8: My dream draft is Jenkins in 1, Avery in 2, Chris Johnson in 3
tbc_bucs: If hypothetically the Bengals are bluffing and want to get rid of Chad Johnson, would the bucs be interested?
guest: agree w/ illinoisbucfan re: qb
spider100378: i think josh johnson is a guy they could draft in the third round i hear he is very mobile and really shooting up on some draft boards
pewterreportjf: bmart5 – From what we understand, Alge Crumpler and Rod Coleman were just released by Atlanta today. The Bucs will show significant interest in both players and possibly bring them both in for visits.
guest: Even without insane track speed…Fitzgerald finds a way to stretch the field and command attention.
pewterreportjf: tbc_bucs – Tampa Bay would have to give up way too much to trade for Chad Johnson, so I think it's a moot point right now.
guest: What second tier Te's could the Bucs pursue if Crumpler'Smith fall to sign here?
spider100378: no way johnson gets traded 8 million dollar cap hit
pikappaphi422: IF we sign Crump what will happen to stevens
pewterreportjf: spider10378 – Tampa Bay loves quarterback Josh Johnson. He's no longer a secret after his showing at the East-West Shrine Game. If he's still available in the third round I would expect the Bucs to draft him there.
illinoisbucfan: I still think that Steven's is in the running to come back. He showed good promise at the end of the year
dominico: i think someone will over pay for crumpler and we will sign stevens for cheap
tpabucfan: I hope Steven's comes back!
spider100378: what value could the bucs get for chris simms
guest: What do you think the chances of the Bucs featuring Michael Bennet are next year?
pipelayer8: I love Steven's ability in the red zone
pewterreportjf: pikappaph – From what understand, several teams will be interested in signing Bucs free agent TE Jerramy Stevens. However, the Bucs would love to have a trio of tight ends that includes Alex Smith, Alge Crumpler and Jerramy Stevens. The more likely scenario could be Smith, Crumpler or Stevens and a rookie tight end.
illinoisbucfan: I wonder how much interest Miami would have in Simms?
spider100378: could the bucs steal a third or 4th round pick for simms
cadillac 24: According to the St. Pete Times, Rod Coleman's agent said that he expected to begin contract discussions with the Bucs later today.
pewterreportjf: guest – The starting job likely will be up for grabs between Earnest Graham and Michael Bennett in 2008. My initial feeling is that the Bucs will have a running back-by-committee approach, though.
pipelayer8: Graham earned it last year in my opinion
pikappaphi422: What rookie TE are out there. I kind of like the big kid Rucker
pewterreportjf: cadillac24 – Coleman and Crumpler have been officially released.
spider100378: what r the chances shaun alexander gets cut in seattle and ends up here
guest: I have always loved the way he plays, but if rapes any more people, I will have to second guess his membership on the team.
guest: What trade bait do we have right now that could help net a top notch vet, or regain some draft picks?
cadillac 24: Do you have any injury news to update us on?
guest: tell me we aren't intrested in Moose. no more AARP receivers!!
pipelayer8: JF what about trading Phillips? With Sabby there, Phillips pushing 30 and a new contract isn't he good bait?
justhorne: graham is the best starting back we've seen in a long time. he puts you in short third down situations
pewterreportjf: guest – cadillac24 – No, no injury updates really. Paris Warren should be ready to go when voluntary workouts begin later this offseason. I don't see how Cadillac Williams is going to make an impact on this team in 2008, so the Bucs would be wise to plan for life without him.
spider100378: Are the Bucs really intrested in alan faneca would he move to center
guest: Faneca would be too expensive for center
guest: JF – and with Graham on the last year of his deal, wouldn't it make sense to get a good/durable back in the draft instead of relying on Graham-Bennett-Moore?
cadillac 24: Would the Bucs move Arron Sears or Davin Joseph to center if they could upgrade those positions.
pewterreportjf: pipelayer – Nope. The Bucs aren't ready to trade Jermaine Phillips. He performed well at safety last year. However, 2008 could be Phillips' last season as a Buc since Sabby Piscitelli is waiting in the wings. Piscitelli led the Bucs in interceptions in training camp last year, so they're excited to get him on the field.
spider100378: True but he would solidfy the ol in a hurry
guest: What kind of money is Alge Crumpler going to demand?
cadillac 24: What's the word on Randy Moss? Why hasn't he been franchised yet?
illinoisbucfan: Could we possibly see a three safty package if Sabby turns into what they think he will be?
pewterreportjf: spider – Yes, the Bucs will be interested in Pittsburgh G Alan Faneca. Tampa Bay will either want to move Faneca to center or move left guard Arron Sears to center and plug Faneca in at left guard. Either way, consider the Bucs interested in his services.
pikappaphi422: Is there any KR they are looking at in FA or Draft
tpa008: JF- Who do you think the Bucs will target at DT in FA or maybe the draft?
guest: What is going on with Roy Williams (DET)? Any thought on the Bucs pusuing him?
spider100378: how much salary would he command
pipelayer8: I'd hate to move Sears, besides playing center could extend Faneca's career.
pewterreportjf: guest – I'm sure Alge Crumpler will not come cheap and another team could wind up paying him more than the Bucs feel he's worth. How much he receives is a question that will have to be answered by his agent and the team that signs him. I'm sure he'll be looking to become one of the highest-paid tight ends in the NFL.
tpabucfan: roy williams can keep his trashin talk mouth in DET
rpc: please tell me we aren't interested in Moose
cadillac 24: Could Brian Kelly posibly come back to the Bucs
quez: What do you think it would take to land a trade for a disgruntled guy like Javon Walker? a 4th…
tpa008: JF- I have read that Javon Walker is going to be out in Denver.. He's got the speed, do you think the Bucs would make a run at him?
pewterreportjf: guest – Roy Williams would have to become available before he Bucs would show much interest in him. I think they'll pursue other options at wide receiver first.
spider100378: Is it safe to assume the Bucs could add two wrs in fa like jerry porter?
spider100378: and stallworth
cadillac 24: Would we be interested in Darwin Walker? The Bears aren't going to pay his upcoming bonus so he will be a UFA.
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – Sure, Brian Kelly could eventually come back to Tampa Bay, but I don't think it's likely. The Bucs seem like they're prepared to move on without Kelly and Kelly seems to believe he will land the contract he's been looking for with the Bucs, but with another team.
pipelayer8: Total Access said Javon Walker could be cut soon to avoid a roseter bonus.
pewterreportjf: spider – Tampa Bay is familiar with wide receiver Jerry Porter, but I'm not sure he has the speed the Bucs are looking for. We'll have to see how that plays out.
pikappaphi422: Do you think kelly will find that contract somewhere else?
spider100378: Kelly doesn't want to be here to me he's another simeon rice case
cadillac 24: How many behind the scenes free agent deals will be already made at the combine?
tampajim: How have all the franchise tags effected the Bucs FA targets?
quez: Is the new CBA expected to have any impact on free agency this off-season? I wouldn't want to sign a contract this year if there was a good chance next year could be uncapped. Jerry Jones says he has several other owners interested in doing away with it.
spider100378: cant make deals at combine tampering
pewterreportjf: pikappaph422 – Brian Kelly is a very good player, but he could be hard pressed to find the contract he's looking for after having a few injury-plagued seasons in recent years and the fact that he's 32 years old. He's a great guy, though. I wish him the best of luck.
pipelayer8: JF can you lobby Bruce Allen to draft Mike Jenkins please?
cadillac 24: How about our own free agents? When will they get signed?
tampajim: If Mike Jenkins is available, he would be a score at the 20 spot…
dominico: my guess is Kelly winds up in Detroit
tpa008: JF- Any thoughts on Javon Walker?
cadillac 24: That's a great guess.
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – Agents and front office executives from around the NFL talk at the Combine, but no contracts are signed. There are tampering rules in place to prevent that type of thing.
guest: Bucs wont take a db with the 1st, they never do
cadillac 24: I thought that teams did that secretly though.
spider100378: walker wants to be a 1wr and wouldn't fit here
pewterreportjf: pipelayer – I'm not sure Bruce Allen really cares what Pewter Report thinks, but I'll do my best to put in a good word for USF cornerback Mike Jenkins. :)
pipelayer8: Thanks JF- Bruce Allen did draft DB's in round 1with da Raiders
dominico: does he read it on a daily basis?
guest: different defense
guest: Glad to hear you guys say Mendenhall is a player of interest for Tampa
cadillac 24: Great to see Pewter Report mentioned on the NFL Network!
dominico: what did they say?
spider100378: If he did he wouldn't make some of the mistakes he did in the past lol
tampajim: I've seen Brohm's name thrown around for the Bucs. any chance of a PR Draft Prospect Profile?
pikappaphi422: Any chance that if they don't get a FA DE that they will use a high draft pcik
pewterreportjf: tpa008 – Wide receivers like Javon Walker and Jerry Porter come with some baggage and a history of injuries. Will the Bucs express interest in signing them? Most likely, but don't be surprised if the Bucs go in a different direction at wide receiver and target fast players.
guest: JF – Do you see us adding a MLB to back-up Ruud?
cadillac 24: Will Rich Bissacia be the permanent RBs coach or is he just there until we can find a better candidate?
spider100378: what do u like of mario mannigham does he have enough speed and strength to get off the line
pewterreportjf: dominco – Yes, Bruce Allen reads almost everything written by the Tampa media, including Pewter Report.
justhorne: hi bruce
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – Yes, that was pretty cool to see NFL Network attribute the Rod Coleman and Alge Crumpler story to Hopefully we come by some more good stories for them to relay to the people watching their program.
tampajim: I think the Rich Bissacia promotion was a great move for the organization.
cadillac 24: Does he tell the media if they print something wrong a lot just like he did with Dr. Stroud?
illinoisbucfan: I knew that was coming…….
spider100378: We have drafted speed before jacquez green comes to mind
pikappaphi422: Who will be our late round project this year
guest: Any word on the Bucs interest or opinion on K. Balmer?
spider100378: green was fast in college but ineffective with bucs
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – Put it this way — we hear feedback from the Bucs on our reporting — good and bad. We appreciate the Bucs' feedback and I think they respect our objective and fair reporting.
cadillac 24: Are the Bucs set with the RB position?
pewterreportjf: I've got to get going, room.
dominico: thanks jf
pipelayer8: Thanks JF you rock!
guest: thanks JF
tampajim: Thanks for the chat…
spider100378: thanks jf
pikappaphi422: thanks jf
cadillac 24: Thanks again JF!
pewterreportjf: Thanks for joining the chat session tonight. Great questions. Be sure to bring them to the Pewter Insider message board and the chat session next week, which will be just a few days before free agency actually begins.
