Pewter Report editor-in-chief Jim Flynn hosted the 30-minute chat session and answered questions from Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans. provides Bucs fans with a transcript of Tuesday's chat session below.

Flynn is identified as pewterreportjf His chat room identity is bolded below.

The chat transcript reads from top to bottom.

hink will happen, not what other people think
pewterreportjf: Hello, Bucs fans. Let the Chat Session begin.
1vabucsfan: sup JF
mvp: bucwildfan- That's why we have the draft.
guest: sup JF
mvp: Hi JF.
kaptainmorgan13: I would like to see the Bucs draft the way they did last year, mostly defense.
1vabucsfan: SR/JF do the signings of Dunn and Bryant able the Bucs to Draft BPA this year?
pikappaphi422: hi jf
kaptainmorgan13: Hey JF
pewterreportjf: This week certainly started off with a bang, didn't it?
bucwildfan: i want a proven WR
bucwildfan: like ocho cinco :(
redtab78: Jf with our need of WR filled in Bryant, where do we turn first in the draft?
guest: After the signing for A.Bryant and W.Dunn, Do you see the bucs drafting a rb or WR in round 1?
guest: No receiver in this draft is worth a 1. Which DL is the guy in the 1st?
bucwildfan: i see us getting corner
pikappaphi422: Any word on josh johnson pro day
kaptainmorgan13: JF, what do you hear is the position of biggest need that the FO wants to address in round 1 of the draft?
mvp: JF if the Bucs go Corner then who fits best? There are some good ones this year.
donperry: i think that the bucs should trade up for Mike Jenkins in the draft because they need another lockdown cb do you see them doing that?
kmachvt43: guest you must be drunk
pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – Tampa Bay will tell you that it will draft the best available player in each round, but the Bucs will address needs in the draft. As of right now, expect the Bucs to draft a cornerback, defensive lineman and wide receiver in the first three rounds.
mvp: If the Bucs draft Kentwan Balmer I will puke.
weinberger83: JF-who do you think the best fit at corner is in the draft for the bucs
guest: Do you think that QB is a possible pick in the first 4 rounds?
pewterreportjf: mvp – If he falls to Tampa Bay the Bucs would seriously consider drafting USF CB Mike Jenkins, but that's a big "if."
bucs5992: jenkins would be a good choice
kmachvt43: who you think tampa will draft first?
redtab78: JF what does Dunn bring to the table that we dont have in Graham and Bennet?
guest: I know nothing about Bryant – what do you think about him? Is he really as good as galloway?
guest: what going on with coleman, is he still banged up?
spiderman1314: If you had to rate those three spots in terms of team need JF, what order would you put them in from greatest need to lesser need?
che: JF- Do the Bucs see any ST options with Michael Bennett? Does't Dunn fill the role that Bennett had his sights set on?
kaptainmorgan13: JF, any chance the Bucs trade out of the first round to stock pile picks or players?
pewterreportjf: guest – Since Tampa Bay traded for Brian Griese and has six quarterbacks on its roster I do not anticipate the Bucs selecting a quarterback in the 2008 NFL Draft.
guest: jf do you think we are still going to make a trade either draft day or after the draft
pikappaphi422: with recent fa signings, what current players will not be buc's this year
mvp: JF then who is the next best choice at CB? It seems useless to talk about CB that won't be there at no. 20
pewterreportjf: guest – Tampa Bay still is interested in Atlanta free agent defensive tackle Rod Coleman. The longer he sits out on the free agent market the cheaper he gets.
donperry: if the bucs do not trade up i think they should draft Desean Jackson or Manningham
weinberger83: JF- have you heard if Tanard is going to give up the #28 to dunn
1vabucsfan: JF-Is there any order the Bucs will draft CB,DL,WR?
redtab78: rumors are flying about Plummer comming back, how does that affect Garcia?
guest: are we currently in any trade talks?
pewterreportjf: kmachvr43 – If Antonio Bryant can stay out of trouble he could make Tampa Bay's 53-man roster. He certainly has good size and speed. It's the off-the-field issues that are cause for concern.
kaptainmorgan13: JF, any chance the Bucs trade out of the first round to stock pile picks or players?
guest: redtab78 – what's the source of those rumors?
mvp: I'd rather have 7 mil the Plummer
donperry: JF- do you think the bucs will trade up for Mike Jenkins?
redtab78: I heard them on an interview on Sirus channel 124 yesterday
kaptainmorgan13: Plummer can stay retired for all I care.
guest: Whatever happened to Charles Rogers after he broke his clavicle?
pewterreportjf: weinberger83 – No word yet on whether Tanard Jackson will give up jersey No. 28 to Warrick Dunn. My guess is Dunn will purchase the jersey from Jackson. He certainly can afford to do that after signing a two-year, $6 million contract with the Bucs on Monday.
mvp: JF I like Mckelvin at CB he can also return kicks. What do you think?
guest: c'mon if we trade up why not for G.Dorsey. There are plenty of good cb in the draft
spiderman1314: If Bryant can keep his nose clean, what do you think his chances of making the team are JF?
bucs5992: we dont need plummer
weinberger83: What do u think the chances are of tampa going after peppers or Taylor for the d-line
mvp: If we traded into the top ten we'd have no selections left.
kmachvt43: JF- ANY TRADE RUMORS??
pewterreportjf: kaptainmoregan13 – Yes, there's a decent chance the Bucs will trade down in the first round or possibly even out of the first round in order to acquire more draft picks. Remember — they only have five picks this year. It's highly unlikely Tampa Bay will trade up in the first round.
guest: same as weinberg…
guest: jf – Do you know anything new about Plummer??
redtab78: Bucs5992, Im not saying we do, but I like the look of Plummer backing up garcia next year when JG decides to sit his starters
kaptainmorgan13: Thanks, JF
jcreek07: any trade talks currently?
mvp: Peppers leaves Carolina only if the Bucs storm into the Panthers locker room with guns and kidnap him.
pewterreportjf: guest – Jake Plummer still is retired, and based on the information we've obtained from our sources I do not believe Jake Plummer will play for the Buccaneers in 2008.
bucs5992: thats why have luke and simms for
weinberger83: What do u think the chances are of tampa going after peppers or Taylor for the d-line
guest: If we trade down it is likely that we will not get an elite corner in this draft….our biggest need
redtab78: and we all saw what they were capable of…lol
donperry: JF- is there any chance that simms will be traded?
bucs5992: specially if simms is healthy, i still think simms can be productive what do you think JF
guest: What RBs do the Bucs like best in this draft?
1vabucsfan: JF- Do the Bucs see Luke as the Qb of the future and if so wouldn't extending Garcia stunt his growth?
guest: how much belief is there in the Bucs organization that Luke McCown is the QB of the future?
kaptainmorgan13: JF, what do you think the depth chart is now of the WRs we have?
mvp: Luke will be great if he can just get some playing time.
guest: ditto mvp
kegan: JF has anyone seen Simms throw this year…is he any better??? trade?
guest: Good question re: McCown
pewterreportjf: weinberger83 – I highly doubt that Tampa Bay will trade for DE Julius Peppers. Not that the Bucs wouldn't be interested in him because they would, but the Panthers probably aren't willing to deal Peppers to a division rival. The same goes for Falcons CB DeAngelo Hall, who is being shopped around. Tampa Bay would like to trade for Hall, but it's unlikely that the Falcons would trade him to the Bucs.
mvp: Saying that I still wouldn't mind Brohm at 20. :)
1vabucsfan: JF- Do the Bucs see Luke as the Qb of the future and if so wouldn't extending Garcia stunt his growth?
donperry: JF- is there any chance that the bucs will trade for Lito Sheppard?
guest: JF what about Taylor trade?
guest: jf what is the likelyhood that we draft a RB in round one
redtab78: JF what do you hear in the efforts of Deffensive schemes…i.e. any 3-4 looks?
guest: any chance
pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – Luke McCown impressed last year, but he didn't show enough to be given the title of "quarterback of the future in Tampa Bay." He needs to show more consistency and build on what he did last year. He can start by beating Brian Griese out for the No. 2 job this year. That will be tough to do.
mvp: Shep is hurt too much. We lost Kelly the same way. To injuries.
pewterreportjf: kegan – I don't see Chris Simms as a member of the Buccaneers in 2008. He might make it to training camp and preseason, but I just don't see how he makes the 53-man roster.
bucs5992: jf – any news on simms
dabucs12188: What other players do you see the Bucs signing during the rest of free agency?
guest: JF does Simm hold any trade value?
pewterreportjf: donperry – Tampa Bay is in the market for a cornerback and it is open to trades, so if the deal is right the Bucs could pull the trigger on a deal for a player like Lito Sheppard.
che: JF, if you had to make a prediction now, how many QBs will make it to camp?
mvp: JF do you really think that the Bucs won't draft a QB just because of Greise?
guest: JF- do you see the bucs trading for any big name players?
guest: When will Bruce Gradkowski get cut?
pikappaphi422: If luke is not title qb of the future, why wouldn't they look at drafting a qb this year to groom
1vabucsfan: JF- If Avery and Johnson are both there in rd 2 where do you see the Bucs going?
guest: any word on Eugene Wilson
kaptainmorgan13: JF, what do you think the depth chart is now of the WRs we have?
pewterreportjf: dabucs12188 – That's tough to say. Free agent DT Rod Coleman still is very much on Tampa Bay's radar, so keep an eye on his situation.
cadillac 24: Are the Bucs still interested in trading for Deangelo Hall?
guest: how would you rate the offseason so far?
guest: JF- do you know of any big name wr's on the trade block?
jcreek07: any word on Marques douglas?
mvp: I think we shoud nab Ray Rice in the 3rd. He runs hard and he reminds me of warrick
pewterreportjf: guest – Chris Simms performed poorly before he was injured, and now he's got some serious question marks surrounding his ability to play football again in the NFL. That said, I don't know how the Bucs would get anything more than a sixth-round draft pick for Chris Simms, and even that would be a lot under the circumstances.
spiderman1314: What are the Eagles looking for in terms of compensation for Sheppherd?
guest: If the Bucs are still looking for a special teams ace, is Jerome Mathis on their radar?
guest: tahnx JF
guest: JF, Do you agree that Tampa is one impact player away from Super Bowl?
pewterreportjf: guest – Tampa Bay has had a decent offseason, but I'd like to see the Buccaneers do more to address their defensive line, particularly their pass rush. The Bucs need to find a way to get after the quarterback early and often.
redtab78: we need a new Sapp
donperry: JF- what wr in the draft would you think would fit the best in the bucs offense?
cadillac 24: Will the Bucs re-sign Kevin Carter? I think we could definately use him for depth.
pewterreportjf: kaptainmorgan13 – It's early. As of right now, I'd say the depth chart would look like this: Joey Galloway, Ike Hilliard, Michael Clayton, Maurice Stovall, Antonio Bryant and Paris Warren
dabucs12188: What other impact players could we pick up in FA to beef up our D-line?
mvp: It seems like the FO sees Pass rushers here already. Right or wrong they still have Chukwurah, Black, and Hayward.
cadillac 24: Why did we sign Warrick Dunn over Michael Pittman?
guest: Why not draft a Jordy Nelson in the middle rounds and cut clayton and stovall?
jcreek07: any word on Marques Douglas?
guest: any word on Eugene Wilson
pewterreportjf: guest – I don't believe Jerome Mathis is healthy, so I don't think the Bucs are interested as of right now. Don't be surprised if Tampa Bay contemplates using Warrick Dunn as a return specialist.
pikappaphi422: any news from the recent pro days
guest: JF – I could not agree with you more regarding the defensive line. How do you think they will address this situation – free agency, draft, or both??
guest: JF any chance on bucs picking up HARTWIG, since panthers cut him?
1vabucsfan: JF- If Haye was a 2nd rd pick with the numbers he put up last year would the bucs still be looking at UT?
kaptainmorgan13: Thanks, JF
cadillac 24: Are the Bucs still interested in trading for Deangelo Hall?
pewterreportjf: guest – No, I do not agree that the Bucs are one imapct player away from the Super Bowl. Tampa Bay needs to add more speed at the wide receiver position and return specialist spots. It also needs to address the cornerback spot and add players to the defensive line that can get after the quarterback.
debucsfan: jf– does that mean bryants hopes arent high in tampa if he is 5th on the depth chart????
mvp: I just don't see a rookie DT having the impact most are thinking.
guest: jf do you think that glen dorsey could slip to #20
weinberger83: JF- what positions ib order do you think tampa will draft 1-3
pewterreportjf: guest – Eugene Wilson visited Tampa Bay, but he's still on the market. He's listed as a safety, but the Bucs are targeting him as a cornerback. The Bucs aren't in a rush to sign Wilson or overpay for his services. Even if Tampa Bay signs him I'd still expect the Bucs to draft a cornerback high in April.
jcreek07: any word on Marques Douglas?
bucs5992: JF – will gaines improve in 2008?
cadillac 24: Will the Bucs re-sign Kevin Carter? Who else are we targeting at DL?
donperry: JF- which wr in the draft do you think is the most overrated
cadillac 24: How about Bryant Johnson or D.J. Hackett at WR?
bigbucs: JF, sorry I am late to the chat, not sure if you talked about it yet, but how do you think our current core of runnings backs will perform in 2008, is there an odd man out sitting the bench?
pewterreportjf: weinberger83 – Don't be surprised if the Bucs address their needs at wide receiver, cornerback and along the defensive line in rounds 1-3.
cadillac 24: Why did we choose Warrick Dunn over Michael Pittman?
redtab78: Bigbucs, I see Bennett as a ST only type…not many snaps
jcreek07: Limas Sweed
1vabucsfan: JF- What do you think of Wallace Gillberry and Donnie Avery and their chances of being Bucs?
guest: When does the draft issue of PR come out?
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – Tampa Bay still is talking to Kevin Carter about bringing him back, but it is not in a hurry to sign him. It might be a situation where the Bucs wait until after the draft to see whether they need to bring Carter back or not.
guest: because dunn doesn't trip over his own feet
che: JF- do you have any sense of how the Bucs rate the RBs in this draft? Would a Ray Rice fit what the Bucs are looking to do?
germanbuc: JF whats happening with your radio set up
guest: because dunn doesn't trip over his own feet
kaptainmorgan13: JF, is the FO saving some money for the hope that their might be a player or two available that they want after the June 1st cuts?
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – Tampa Bay might sign another veteran wide receiver, but at this point another signing may not come until after the draft. This draft is very deep at the WR position and the Bucs are expected to take at least one of them in April.
cadillac 24: Michael Pittman already has mastered the system though and is very versititle.
vegasbuc: Do the Bucs have any interest in bringing back Corey Smith or Wyms?
jcreek07: any word on Marques Douglas?
guest: Since the Bucs didn't make a strong push for Briggs, what is the feeling of how much Brooks has left to give?
germanbuc: the june 1 cuts are not so interesting anymore with the new cba
cadillac 24: I would take a look at Wyms as a reserve DL.
pewterreportjf: Cadillac 24 – Bucs head coach Jon Gruden has always liked Warrick Dunn and never wanted him to leave in 2002. However, salary cap trouble dictated that move. Gruden loves the fact that Dunn can carry the ball, catch and pick up blitzes. Tampa Bay felt Dunn was a better option over Pittman at this point in both of their careers.
kaptainmorgan13: I agreee germanbuc, but there still are players who get cut based on players who fall to teams in the draft.
pewterreportjf: vegasbuc – Tampa Bay has some interest in signing Ellis Wyms and Smith, but it's minimal.
vegasbuc: Did Brian Kelly end up making more money by buying out his contract and signing with Detroit, or in the end was it a bad financial move on his part?
1vabucsfan: JF- What do you think of Wallace Gillberry and Donnie Avery and their chances of being Bucs?
donperry: JF- do you think the bucs would draft Mendenhall if he fell that far
germanbuc: debucsfan no reason to sream
pewterreportjf: guest – Tampa Bay better hope that Derrick Brooks plays well in 2008 since it passed up a player with Lance Briggs' credentials in free agency. Brooks turns 35 in April, so I don't expect him to make the Pro Bowl, but he probably still will be a good player. He's got the mental part down. It's the speed I worry about.
mvp: I like Stewart over Mendenhall because he is also a KR
germanbuc: and yo answer you question sunshine
cadillac 24: If Jeremiah Trotter gets no interest, would the Bucs consider bringing him back? He is a great leader and lockeroom guy.
guest: hello?
pewterreportjf: vegasbuc – We're looking into Brian Kelly's contract with Detroit. Our sources tell us that the Bucs were in communication with Kelly's representatives all the way up until the day he signed with the Lions.
guest: anyone on?
jcreek07: any word on Marques Douglas?
spiderman1314: Who along the defensive line are the Bucs still looking at?
guest: jf do you think the bucs will make a trade for deangelo hall?
guest: JF – I just get the sense BK was not happy here.
pewterreportjf: cadillac24 – Sure, Tampa Bay would be interested in re-signing Jeremiah Trotter, but he wouldn't be guaranteed a spot on the team. He was a great leader on and off the field last year, but he's looking for more playing time. He could be a liability in pass coverage, which is why the Bucs signed Teddy Lehman.
1vabucsfan: JF- What do you think of Wallace Gillberry and Donnie Avery and their chances of being Bucs?
guest: BK was never paid enough to stay
panamabuc: d. jackson rd 1 wr and kr?
mvp: JF does P-Buc have the confidence of the coaches at LCB?
pewterreportjf: spiderman – As of right now Tampa Bay still is looking at Rod Coleman. The longer he sits out on the free agent market the cheaper he should get, or at least that's what the Bucs are banking on.
bigbucs: JF, from an outsider looking in, it always appears Gruden limits the playbook due to the players in experience in his system, do you actually see as a closer observer Gruden ever changing his system around his players?
pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – I think Tampa Bay could take a very hard look at drafting Donnie Avery in the second round. The Bucs need to add more speed to the receiver positon and need a successor for Joey Galloway, 36. That said, Avery seems like the perfect candidate.
cadillac 24: Are any of the Bucs free agents generating any interest around the league? Pittman? Would it be possible Pittman comes back if he can't get a job anywhere else?
spiderman1314: I love Avery.
mvp: Avery has bad hands. Pass.
pikappaphi422: Who do like better avery or dexter jackson
guest: wat are the bucs going to do on the dline?
panamabuc: desean jackson
pewterreportjf: bigbucs – Nope. Jon Gruden's system is what it is — complicated. He's got a lot to work with this year. I expect to see signficant improvement in the offense this year.
1vabucsfan: If Haye was a 2nd rd pick with the numbers he put up last year would the bucs still be looking at UT?
guest: are there any good DEs that are left in the third round…draft is light in this position
guest: Avery = Clayton with speed
guest: We always forget to ask the obvious questions -what about all the new players – faine, mccoy, troupe, etc. etc.
mvp: Desean Jackson=Steve Smith? That is what the Bucs have to answer.
kaptainmorgan13: JF, any word on if the Bucs are considering a Ring of Honor to commemorate former players of the organization?
bigbucs: It would be nice to see an explosive offensive playing in the pewter and red for once
mvp: Guest- Thats not saying much.
kmachvt43: what should we excpect by the Defense this year?? sounds like you have doubts
guest: yeah MVP
pewterreportjf: guest – That's a great question. I dont' know what Tampa Bay is going to do along the defensive line. The Bucs still could sign DT Rod Coleman. One thing is for sure — the Bucs need to add pass rushers to their defensive line. Otherwise, I don't see Tampa Bay's defense finishing next season ranked No. 2 overall again.
vegasbuc: I wonder what nice toy T-Jack is going to buy himself with the money Warrick is going to throw at him to get #28 back…
jcreek07: any word on Marques Douglas?
pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – Tampa Bay likes Jovan Haye a lot, especially against the run. However, the Bucs need Haye to do a better job of shedding blockers and putting pressure on the quarterback on a more consistent basis.
guest: which DEs are the bucs interested in the draft
guest: MVP we have too many non-catchers as it is, adding Avery will not help that
guest: i think merling would be a good fit
cadillac 24: Are any of the Bucs free agents generating any interest around the league? Pittman? Would it be possible Pittman comes back if he can't get a job anywhere else?
mvp: Calais Campbell sounds good to me at 20.
pewterreportjf: kmachvt43 – Tampa Bay's defense needs to address needs at cornerback and along the defensive line in terms of pass rush.
1vabucsfan: JF- Do you think Troupe could Challenge to be the starter?
jay: what we need is a super bowl
mvp: Guest- I don't like Avery either.
guest: Any chance of the bucs trading to move up in the draft? like for the DL long? lol
guest: it would take our whole draft to get chris long
guest: How is Gaines Adams progressing?
mvp: 20 cannot move up to the top 5 without selling the farm. It just can't happen.
1vabucsfan: JF- Do you think Troupe could Challenge to be the starter?
bigbucs: JF, so far out of the new players signed up with the Bucs in free agency, who do you like the most?
pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – I don't think Alex Smith is guaranteed a starting job at tight end, but I just don't see how Ben Troupe is going to beat him out in his first year. Jon Gruden uses plenty of two- and three- tight-end sets, so I expect to see Smith, Troupe and John Gilmore on the field plenty.
jay: i want stevens back at TE as well
mvp: I think Gaines gets 10 sacks this year.
jay: no he will get 15
pewterreportjf: guest – Chances are quite slim that Tampa Bay will move up in the 2008 draft to take a player. The Bucs only have five draft picks this year, so if anything look for them to consider trading down.
guest: he will make the pro bowl i bet
kaptainmorgan13: Can't picture Gruden and Chris Long on the cover of ESPN in a wedding bride and groom outfit, ala Ricky Williams and Ditka
cadillac 24: Why won't the Bucs re-sign Stevens? He was a great character with the Bucs.
guest: lol @ kaptain
vegasbuc: Yeah… let's get Stevens back. That will give Antonio Bryant someone to go drinking with.
mvp: Enough Anemic 3 TE sets. The NFL is about the spread get 3 WR out there and light up a defense.
pewterreportjf: I have to get going, Bucs fans.
bigbucs: we offset stevens with bryant
guest: MVP, if gaines get help on dl, he could get way more than 10
kaptainmorgan13: Thanks JF
1vabucsfan: Peace JF
pikappaphi422: thanks
kegan: thnaks
guest: take care
kaptainmorgan13: Peas out
guest: thanks jf
cadillac 24: Could the Bucs re-sign Pittman
guest: THANKS JF!!
pewterreportjf: Thanks for participating in the chat session.
