PEWTERREPORT.COM CHAT TRANSCRIPT – 4/29/08 pewterreportjf: Hello, Bucs fans. Hope all of you enjoyed the 2008 NFL Draft. Let the PewterReport.com chat session begin! guest: Wow, all my draft predictions turned out to be correct! stulaake: Zuttah is in…who is out on the o-line antcam: What's going my fellow bucanneers stulaake: dude pewterreportjf: stulake – That's right. Third-round pick Jeremy Zuttah is in and he's versatile enough to play tackle, guard and center. He most likely will start off inside, though. That said, Anthony Davis and Dan Buenning are in trouble. 1vabucsfan: JF Are the bucs done trying to improve tha pass rush this off season? stulaake: colemen? is he a buc or not? immensus: jf any news on taylor trade? bmarti5: JF, it seems the Bucs showed their hand by drafting a quarterback, is there any trade value to be expected for Grad or Simms? guest: Will Dexter Jackson see the field as a wide receiver or will only play special teams. And can he definitely return both punts and kicks pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – The Bucs attempted to improve the pass rush by signing Jimmy Wilkerson and Marques Douglas, and drafting Dre' Moore, but I don't feel they did enough to improve it significantly. That's why I would have liked to have seen the Bucs make the move for Jared Allen, but I understand why the Bucs backed out of the negotiations — the Chiefs got a lot for Allen and the Viking had to pay him a lot. guest: A HAM SANDWICH FOR GRAD OR SIMMS stulaake: McCown is on the team in your opinion if the season started, WHY? 1vabucsfan: JF Any chance Boyd/Stewart makes the team as back up FB? guest: The trade price for Jared Allen was way to high. It would have been a foolish move for the Bucs IMHO. pewterreportjf: bmart15 – Even before the Bucs drafted Josh Johnson in the fifth round I thought Chris Simms and Bruce Gradkowski were the odd men out at quarterback. The Bucs didn't draft Josh Johnson just to cut him, so I think this is the first year under Jon Gruden that the Bucs could keep 4 QBs on their 53-man roster. buc4life79: jf…if by chance simms makes it to training camp…do you see the shotgun helping him stay on the team stulaake: Cadillac is looking decent enought to come off the PUP in week 7? pewterreportjf: guest – Dexter Jackson will initially start on special teams as Tampa Bay's return specialist. However, I can see Jon Gruden using Jackson as a situational-type receiver in his rookie year, especially if Joey Galloway gets injured. antcam: JF do you think J. Trueblood will be moved to left tackle? pewterreportjf: stulake – Luke McCown performed well in place of Jeff Garcia last year, and he still has upside. Brian Griese is about as good as he's going to get. If McCown can avoid some key mistakes and get rid of the ball in a more timely manner he could be one hell of a quarterback. The competition to watch in training camp will be between McCown and Griese. Jeff Garcia is the starter and I don't see the Bucs cutting Josh Johnson in his rookie year. immensus: JF do you think Taylor (if we can trade for him/will halp with passrush? 1vabucsfan: JF If Tommy Blake can show up like his old self do you think he would make the team? Do the bucs think Charles Bennet can bring anything off the edge as well? antcam: Is J. Johnson arm strength similar to B. Grads. pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – No, I don't see that happening. The Bucs love B.J. Askew as the fullback and remember — Earnest Graham can play fullback, too. Tampa Bay was somewhat pleased with what Byron Storer did as well from a blocking standpoint and special teams. buc4life79: taylor is to old for what the dolphins want… stulaake: Geno Hayes, is he Brook's heir apparent? guest: They aren't going to cut Griese because, other than the Johnson draft, nothing has changed. pewterreportjf: antcam – No, our sources told us today that the Bucs have no intention of moving Jeremy Trueblood from right tackle to left tackle. buc4life79: geno hayes will be the sleeper in this years draft class guest: I THINK DRE MOORE IS THE SLEEPER immensus: buc4life79 – 3 or 4 rounder is more realistic now buc4life79: not when you got the best linebacker taking you under his wing bucsfan4ever: JF is Zuttah a long snapper also???? pewterreportjf: lmmensus – Given the fact that Miami DE Jason Taylor willl be 34 this year I wouldn't be in favor of the Bucs trading much to the Dolphins for him, but I do believe Taylor could help improve Tampa Bay's pass rush this year. He is in great shape and is an imcredible athlete. If the Dolphins wind up releasing Taylor I would expect the Bucs to make a significant push for him. guest: Is anyone in here? antcam: If we put Johnson on the practice squad, Do u believe that another team will scoop him up? pewterreportjf: buc4life79 – I look forward to seeing what Geno Hayes can do on the field. I think worst case scenario he winds up on Tampa Bay's practice squad. buc4life79: hayes learning the nfl from brooks is the best thing to happen to hayes immensus: JF yeah, an he can dance too… LOL redtab78: JF how do you see us using Dexter Jackson, and will there be 6 WR's going into the pre-season? guest: D rays getting owned pewterreportjf: bucsfan4ever – I'm not sure if Zuttah can long snap, but the Bucs are comfortable keeping a 53-man roster spot for Andrew Economos. The Bucs were happy with how he long snapped last year. 1vabucsfan: JF If Tommy Blake can show up like his old self do you think he would make the team? Do the bucs think Charles Bennet can bring anything off the edge as well? pewterreportjf: antcam – I don't think the Bucs would have a chance in hell of sneaking Josh Johnson onto the practice squad. I think Tampa Bay must keep him on the active roster to keep him around for the long term. antcam: Shucks buc4life79: jf…now that the shotgun is in our offense…and given simms played in the shotgun in college..will that help simms stulaake: JF, what are your thoughts on the "05 Buc draft, now that we are 3 years removed? redtab78: SIMMS SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! guest: Any trade rumors coming from 1 Buc Palace? antcam: I dont think Simms wants to take another snap in Pewterreport and Red buc4life79: simms sux thats why is in a buc uniform and your not… guest: JF what do you see from Josh Johnson, that you like about his mechanics and tendencies and what not, is there anything you don't like? ts: that was me bucsfan4ever: Any word on how Caddy looks?? Do you think he will play this year? buc4life79: caddie will be back in week 8 guest: JF/ I have a theory that the Buce scooped up Jackson early to avoid losing him like I feel they did last 2 years losing Figures and Hester. What do you think? pewterreportjf: redtab – Dexter Jackson wasn't overally productive at Appalachian State as a receiver, but he thrives off of speed and running slants, which is needed in a West Coast offense. Jackson can get YAC, and that's what Jon Gruden wants/needs. Jackson is a bit raw as a receiver, but he's fast and will be groomed behind Joey Galloway. Jackson will initlally start as Tampa Bay's return specialist. He must thrive there in order for the Bucs to feel good about taking him in the second round. redtab78: no, Im not in thier uniform becuse I cant play football….but I can drink a beer and watch it with the best!!! buc4life79: lol…that was good…. thegron: Do you see the Buccaneers making any trades for a veteran WR? guest: In hindsight JF, who is better: Aqib Talib or Mike Jenkins? stulaake: True ofr False: Talib is the Bucs' opening day nickel? buc4life79: mike jenkins pewterreportjf: buc4life – It's a moot point in terms of the shotgun being in Tampa Bay's offense because I'm not even sure Chris Simms will take another snap as a Buccaneer. The Bucs will only take 5 QBs to training camp, and right now they have seven on their roster. redtab78: is there a market for Chris Simms? pewterreportjf: guest – Tampa Bay had to draft Dexter Jackson in the second round because he wouldn't have been there in the third and the only two speed receivers left on the board were Jackson and Andre Caldwell. guest: talib buc4life79: maybe a 6th or 7th rounder…right now thegron: Do you see the Buccaneers recieving any value from Simms or Gradkowki? antcam: MJG must like what he's seeing from A. Bryant? guest: Bruce Allen mentioned in his press conference that the Bucs aren't finished aquiring other players. How do they plan on getting more players? Will they sign a free agent like Rod Coleman or trade for someone? Who are they targeting to bring in? 1vabucsfan: JF If Tommy Blake can show up like his old self do you think he would make the team? Do the bucs think Charles Bennet can bring anything off the edge as well? weinberger83: with the drafting of DT in the draft does that mean Tampa is no longer interested in Coleman buc4life79: but didnt the bucs bring in caldwell and like him pewterreportjf: bucfan4ever – The Bucs believe Cadillac Williams is making good progress. While he probably will start the season on the physically unable to perform list, the Bucs believe Williams will play in 2008. thegron: Were you impressed by Talibs press conference, what did you take away from listening to him? bucsfan4ever: Thanks JF bucpimpin: Talib reminds me of Mos Def antcam: I read somewhere that B. Grads is on the block? ROFL pewterreportjf: guest – I am biased because I graduated from USF, so naturally I wanted to see the Bucs take Mike Jenkins, but I understand why they selected Aqib Talib. Talib is a better athlete and playmaker in terms of ballhawk skills. If Talib can stay out of trouble I think he'll be one hell of a cornerback. redtab78: You would think that anyteam out there looking for a QB back-up or not, would direct thier attention to the Bucs for one because we have alot of them….if we need a certain typr of positional player we would contact an organization that had a ton of them… buc4life79: tbo.com reported that about bruce… guest: If Cadillac comes back that would be the comeback story of a lifetime. pewterreportjf: thegron – Bruce Allen should be deemed a genius if he can actually get anything in exchange for Chris Simms or Bruce Gradkowski. buc4life79: caddie will be back by week 8 or 9 ts: JF what do you see from Josh Johnson, that you like about his mechanics and tendencies and what not, is there anything you don't like? redtab78: JF, do you think the mentoring of Dion Sanders will help keep Talib on track with his off field issues? gdubbz: Is their any hope that Amarii Jackson will play in pre season? pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – Blake is a long shot, but the Bucs are in need of a pass rusher, so he'll get a good look at the rookie mini-camp. buc4life79: having deon take you under is wing is makin a statement stulaake: JF, whose extension is done first? Garcia or Graham… 1vabucsfan: JF Are the Bucs truly content with the firepower or lack there of on O? buc4life79: graham bucpimpin: Nobody here pays for my opinion but I will throw down $5 to any one here Talib starts Day 1. pewterreportjf: redtab – Sure – having Deion Sanders mentor you and work with you can only help you if you're a cornerback. bucpimpin: opposit Barber bucpimpin: opposite antcam: B'Pimpn I'll take that bet!!!! guest: mos def w/ a little bit of Wynton Marsalis mixed in that accent. buc4life79: dont forget about sabby yall cadillac 24: How much interest did the Bucs have in trading for Jason Taylor? gdubbz: I wanted to come to the draft day party but I didnt want to bring my friend who was a 49er fan. it would have been weird imo. pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – The Bucs have more firepower on offense now than they did last year. Tampa Bay's offensive line is solid. There really aren't anymore excuses (there have been some legit ones in the past) — Jon Gruden's offense needs to deliver on a consistent basis in 2008. stulaake: does Sabby get to participate in the rookie camp this weekend? cadillac 24: Bruce Allen mentioned in his press conference that the Bucs aren't finished aquiring other players. How do they plan on getting more players? Will they sign a free agent like Rod Coleman or trade for someone? Who are they targeting to bring in? weinberger83: would you have rather of had the bucs draft mendenhall over talib as he was still on the board at 20 redtab78: ok……..serious question….with the Bucs having arguably the best (top 5 anyway) averaged out over the past decade…why dont we get any type of main stream media? guest: If TJack can do it, Talib can. pewterreportjf: stulake – No, I don't believe Sabby Piscitelli can participate in the rookie mini-camp, but I can't be sure. buc4life79: cause the glazers bought manchester and people didnt like it gdubbz: I think we should try to get Little from kentucky to tryout he was a good player. bucpimpin: It makes me laugh that Carter decided to stay with the Bucs and he will get cut.. He really should have signed with Oakland. Outside of the locker Room he dowsnt contribute much. pewterreportjf: redtab – what are you referring to? thegron: Is Antonio Bryant going to return to his old playmaker form? Or will he fail? In your opinion, of course. edwamil83: i think the defense bucsfan4ever: JF Which O-line guy makes the Pro Bowl this year?? guest: JF- Do you see any other trades coming down this offseason? And if so who? pewterreportjf: bucpimpin – Kevin Carter isn't guaranteed a roster spot, but he certainly will have a shot to make the team. Tampa Bay likes Kevin Carter's leadership in the locker room, and he can still play, but his skills are declining. guest: I saw Carter playing pretty well last season. buc4life79: redtab…we didnt get any media coverage because cause the glazers bought manchester and people didnt like it weinberger83: Better than what o-line guy what player in tampa makes the prowbowl this year….Can we get some respect guest: not sure that edwamil83: So long term who is Zuttah going to replace on the O-Line? Because third round is pretty high for a career back-up. 1vabucsfan: JF Any chance Bennett beats out Chuck for a spot? redtab78: well, for one…you never hear NFL network spend time on the Bucs like they do Patriots, Giants, Cowboys, and Green bay….and I dont ever hear to much buc's talk in the national media…Im not local to TB so I dont hear 620, but I get so tired of hearing about the aformentioned teams as well as Cinncy, Cards Ect. gdubbz: JF who all is visiting thursday for the pre camp? pewterreportjf: bucsfan4ever – Tampa Bay's offensive line is solid and talented, but I'm not sure any of the players will make the Pro Bowl. The Bucs just aren't known for good offensive line play, or at least not yet. antcam: 4-12 wont get no coverage guest: JF- Is the Lito Sheppard trade completely dead? Or is there still a chance the Bucs acquire him? buc4life79: philly wants to much for lito redtab78: and besides that…..EVERY SINGLE PICK IN THE DRAFT was sidelined for a commercial guest: Who gets the NFL network? guest: They wanted too much for Sheppard before the draft when they had the leverage, what about now? gdubbz: if yall turn on espn U their playing the delaware vs delaware st game. Flaccos ballin it up. redtab78: me guest: i do pewterreportjf: 1vabucsfan – Yes, Charles Bennett has added size and he does have some pass-rushing ability. Patrick Chukwurah needs to stay healthy to have a chance to make the team. The thing Chukwurah has going for him is his special teams ability. stulaake: was the Zuttah pick a wake up call for Davin or to take over for Faine when he buys out after year 2? bucsfan4ever: I was tired of hearing about the Chiefs, Browns and Bengals also. bucpimpin: JF.. Were you as mad as me to see the saints trade up in the 7th 1 spot ahead of us to pick Arrington the WR from Michigan? I swear he did it so we couldnt get him. pewterreportjf: gdubbz – We're still working on compiling a list of the players the Bucs have signed to try-out contracts and as undrafted free agents. Stay tuned. guest: That's only 2 people. thegron: Who had the best draft in the NFCS, in your opinion? redtab78: the Manchester argument to me is overplayed….thats FUTball, not FOOTball……totally different game buc4life79: jf…by chance…if thrope from fsu gets healthy before camp..you think we might look at him buc4life79: but its the point the glazers bought a inetnational team when they already had the bucs pewterreportjf: thegron – The Saints had a pretty good draft. I actually liked Carolina's draft — getting Jonathan Stewart was good for the Panthers in the first round. redtab78: JF whats the word on Paris Warren? will he come in and take Clayton's, or Hilliards spot? pewterreportjf: buc4life – As of right now, no I don't think the Bucs would look at Thorpe. antcam: I hope that we give DJ Hall a look. bucpimpin: Any chance the Bucs add a Fagg to the roster this off season. He has great size out of FSU.. But I know he is hurt. gdubbz: JF is thier any chance we can get an interview with Amarii jackson or an article on him signing. Many USF fans prob still dont know. bucpimpin: Decody.. pewterreportjf: redtab – That's a great question. If Paris Warren can prove he's recovered from the ankle injury and pick up where he left off last preseason he could threaten to take Ike Hilliard or Michael Clayton's roster spot. 1vabucsfan: JF which Wr has the best chance to start on the other side of Joey? buc4life79: I PROMISE YOU HE WILL TAKE CLAYTONS SPOT IF HE STAYS HEALTH. redtab78: hmmmm……..what about Troupe taking over for A. Smith…he is a better TE in my opinion stulaake: Dre' Moore a UT or a NT? redtab78: Troupe is… buc4life79: STOVALL gdubbz: Didnt DJ Hall sign with someone already? guest: What trades can still go down this offseason? pewterreportjf: gdubbz – There have been some inaccurate reports regarding which players have signed try-out contracts with the Bucs and which ones haven't. I'm not saying Amari Jackson hasn't signed a try-out contract with the Bucs, but we'd rather wait to get things confirmed and give you accurate info on all of the signings. antcam: Good Job JF weinberger83: JF How many QB's will Gruden take with him to the regular season and what ones do u think he will pick thegron: JF, any chance Boyd makes the roster? pewterreportjf: stulake – The Bucs will use fourth-round pick Dre' Moore at under tackle, but he does have the size and ability to play some nose tackle if needed. buc4life79: 4 qbs gdubbz: ok I get yea. its just exciting to see him go pro. He was one of my fav USF players the past two years. redtab78: buc4life79, I would Love to see us as Warren, Galloway, and Stoval…with Jackson, and Clayto as occasional players stulaake: JF, will Greg Peterson play DE or DT this season? cadillac 24: Which players are the Bucs looking to add to their roster before training camp? Do you think we will make any trades before camp? buc4life79: true true dabucs12188: jf – What trades do you believe could still go down this offseason? pewterreportjf: weinberger83 – I published an early 53-man roster prediction on the front page of www.pewterreport.com today. I think there's a decent chance the Bucs will keep four QBs — Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Luke McCown and Josh Johnson. guest: Jim, do you think there's a chance Hilliard gets bumped from the roster this year in favor of someone with more upside/speed? stulaake: and only one FB antcam: I'm glad Pewterreport convinced the FO to draft J. Johnson= 1vabucsfan: JF which Wr has the best chance to start on the other side of Joey? Is Stovall a lock to make the team? bucpimpin: Serious Question JF.. How close is PR to being able to get insiders info prior to being released on 620 or other outlets. Can one of you guys get in good with Bruce to get us early scoop. buc4life79: stovall will take hillards spot redtab78: Does Dre Moore Bring a new age of Sapp in way of aggressivness? of course he will need some training first, but does he have the hungar? pewterreportjf: cadillac24 – Keep an eye on Jason Taylor's situation in Miami. Consider the Bucs interested if the Dolphins lower their asking price or simply release him. The fact that the Jaguars selected two defensive ends in the draft means the Bucs could stand a great chance of landing Taylor if the price is right since he'd like to stay in Florida. guest: redtab no way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! clayton bryant galloway………jackson warren weinberger83: JF Do u think tampa will still look in Colemans direction with the drafting of DT Moore buc4life79: coleman for the right price stulaake: vet minimum thegron: Who do you think gets contract extensions this offseason? antcam: JF Could u compare Johnson and Grads arm strength? redtab78: guest….the way Parris Warren played in pre-season…..(i know it wasnt the starters he played against) but he was GREAT…..as good as ANY WR out there last year pewterreportjf: bucpimpn – Pewter Report has broken its fair share of stories and we do have sources inside of One Buc Place, around the NFL and in other places that people would probably never even think of. We are very fortunate to have formed relationships and earned the respect of people around the league. cadillac 24: Yeah, are the Bucs working on contracts for Graham and Garcia now? guest: JF-Any chance Buchanon stays if Talib proves to be as good as advertised and he isn't starting anymore? 1vabucsfan: JF which Wr has the best chance to start on the other side of Joey? Is Stovall a lock to make the team? pewterreportjf: weinberger – I'm in the process of asking some of our sources about Tampa Bay's interest in Rod Coleman. I don't see Coleman joining the Bucs after the team drafted Dre' Moore. gdubbz: test text. redtab78: text working pewterreportjf: redtab – Dre' Moore needs to show consistency in terms of effort. If he can do that then the Bucs feel he can become one hell of defensive tackle. bucpimpin: I love how Gruden kind of compared Talib to Woodson (kind of) Then Allen walked out there and squashed the comparison by saying ''I dont think Talib has a Heisman'' stulaake: I'm gonna miss Raheem after next season… guest: 4-7 now w/ Rays bucsfan4ever: Heu JF tell SR he dod good on NFL Network segment buc4life79: stovall will make the team regaurdless because of special teams play antcam: I would thank so Va since 42% of the def snaps are in the nickel pewterreportjf: 1vabucfan – If Maurice Stovall can do what he did last offseason and sustain it in preseason and the regular season then he can become a very productive receiver. He needs to keep his legs, though. After Joey Galloway the wide receiver competition is wide open. thegron: How is Petitgout recovering, jf? redtab78: 42% where did you come up with that? 1vabucsfan: Thanks JF antcam: m. Kiffin cadillac 24: Which players were the Bucs close to drafting, but were drafted right before the Bucs picked? pewterreportjf: thegron – Luke Petitgout should be ready to go for training camp. guest: jf are they talking to raheem for a extension? please say yes? bucpimpin: JF.. Not saying you guys dont get us good info.. I mean.. I just hope the head guys like Allen and Gruden respect your work enough to let stuff out through you guys.. Maybe we can get them in on a chat.. buc4life79: raheem needs to stay pewterreportjf: guest – I think Phillip Buchanon and Eugene Wilson will make Tampa Bay's team this year, but I think the player that performs the best out of those two will get locked up long-term by the Bucs while the other might be allowed to test free agency in 2009. redtab78: JF, obviously our Deffense picked up some good and needed help, do you see us staying in the top 5 this year, if not the top 3 again as compared to ther other teams who went big on offense? antcam: We should overpay for R. Morris sevices gdubbz: Has Aqib selected a number yet? buc4life79: i agree about morris…. buc4life79: yeah his number is 420…lol bucpimpin: lol antcam: How improved do yall think the saints def will be? edwamil83: I don't know why the worry about Petitgout I thougth last year he said something to the affect that he regretted going on IR because he probably could have come back for the playoffs. guest: You don't need to break the story, but it would be nice if, say, Rotoworld breaks a Tribune or St. Pete Times story and you just report it timely. Often you guys won't report it for a long while. Don't know if that's just because they are competitors or what. Just report it and cite them. pewterreportjf: bucpimpn – The regime under Bruce Allen is very tight-lipped. But it's okay. We're used to working hard to get you info. I'm not sure if we're liked or not, but I do believe most people respect our effort and work. That's all you can ask for I suppose. bucpimpin: F the saints buc4life79: Aqib number is 420…. antcam: that funny bucsfan4ever: Hey JF need a dirty dozen about the draft. Tell Hugh to get goin' on this immensus: JF, have you ever had one to one with Allen? buc4life79: yeah he probaly lied to jf face like he did mike jenkins…lol bucpimpin: no he said he is tight lipped.. guest: jf extension morris? redtab78: did he really tell Mike Jenkins he was gonna draft him? pewterreportjf: guest – It is our job to get people accurate information, not get you information first that may turn out to be wrong later. There have been plenty of stories that we've stayed away from in the past because our sources said it was wrong or wouldn't confirm it. I can't tell you how many times we've lived to be happy with that decision. A perfect example of this was this weekend when one of the newspapers reported that a deal between the Dolphins and Bucs for Jason Taylor was near completion. We later learned that the two teams hadn't even talked at all. Hopefully you can just trust our judgement. 1vabucsfan: JF Whats your take on Boyd? guest: no redtab buc4life79: yup it was confirmed by like 3 sources gdubbz: doesnt Aqib's voice remind you of chris tuckers voice? pewterreportjf: redtab – No, Bruce Allen never told Mike Jenkins he was going to draft him. That was inaccurate. redtab78: thats what I thought buc4life79: lol….people lie lie lie….lol buc4life79: mike jenkins said he did stulaake: hom many players d the Bucs expect at this weekend's mini camp? pewterreportjf: Be sure to check out our website throughout the week, especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which is when the Bucs will hold their rookie mini-camp at One Buc Place. redtab78: I like Bruce and Jon, and everything they are doing…..and I hope we keep other key coaches in the office, but hopefully if M. Kiffin calls it quits soon, Raheem Morris steps in his spot and runs pewterreportjf: I've got to get going, room. buc4life79: PEACE OUT JF…. guest: You are great JF! Thanks! redtab78: ok, thanks jf antcam: JF have you heard anything about a minor league for the nfl in the making gdubbz: p-out JF pewterreportjf: Thanks for joining the chat session tonight. Good questions.
