The chat transcript reads from top to bottom.
PEWTERREPORT.COM CHAT TRANSCRIPT – 5/13/08 pewterreportsr: SR is in the house! Let's get this chat on! bucsfan4ever: Hi all guest: SR any update on Caddy? guest: SR in the House!! pewterreportjf: Hello, Bucs fans. Let the PewterReport.com Chat Session begin. pewterreportsr: I spoke with Caddy today and he was adamant that he'll be back and ready to go by training camp. I still have my doubts. Okay … so he can practice, but will he be 100%? No. He'll likely be no better than Kenneth Darby or Cory Boyd at the outset. guest: Do you think that graham will get the big deal that he wants? guest: SR and JF?? Wow, that's impressive. guest: Hypothetical….IF Caddy is ready to go and 100% do the Bucs carry 4 RBs? bucsfan03: SR, Any chance that Ernest is gonna resign with the bucs? guest: So whats is the update on rod coleman che: Has the progress of Cadillac's rehab had any affect on the contract extension for Earnest Graham? pewterreportjf: guest – One thing that has been lost in all of the media coverage regarding Jeff Garcia and Earnest Graham is the fact that the Bucs would like to extend both players. It takes two sides to do a deal and we don't know what Graham or Garcia are asking for. pewterreportsr: guest – The problem is that we don't know what Graham wants. Neither he nor Rosenhaus have made their demands public. If he wants $1 million to $2 million per year, that's somewhat reasonable and probably doable. If he wants $5 million per year, that's unreasonable and probably not doable by the Bucs. pewterreportjf: That said, I don't think Earnest Graham will get much more than what the Bucs have offered Michael Pittman and Michael Bennett in recent years. pewterreportsr: I agree with Flynn on his Graham comments. bucsfan03: Pittman coming back? bucsfan4ever: Well at least Haye signed guest: Do we have a happy Haye? che: They gave Marcus Hamilton #32. That's probably a pretty good sign. pewterreportsr: che – I don't think Cadillac's status has changed the Bucs' feelings about Graham. It's kind of compartmentalized. guest: Who is going to start at the running back position? bucsfan4ever: Has Simms made an appearence at the OTA's? Can only think he is hurting himself more than the Bucs pewterreportsr: guest – Haye should be happy. He's making $2 million this year. If he performs well, he'll get paid handsomely by the Bucs or somebody else. He may even get franchised if he puts up similar numbers. guest: Any news regarding Antonio Bryant? pewterreportjf: bucsfan03 – From what I've heard from the team I don't think Michael Pittman will come back to the Bucs unless Earnest Graham holds out of mandatory mini-camp or a running back suffers a injury. pewterreportsr: bucsfan4ever – Simms has not been at the OTAs, nor will he show up. I think he's resigned to the fact that he's going to be traded or cut. pewterreportjf: bucsfan4ever – No, Chris Simms has not participated in organized team activities. I suspect he will either be released or traded before training camp begins on July 25. cadillac 24: Do you think that anyone will sign Pittman and what happened with Kevin Jones? pewterreportsr: guest – It's tough to tell who will start at RB. Graham probably should, but missing these OTAs – plus his contract situation – will likely push Dunn into the starting role. bucsfan4ever: But wouldn't be better for him to show he can play again and that he has healed???? guest: What happens if Askew goes down – is there a backup player or backup plan for the backfield? guest: What team do you think the bucs would trade simms to che: Do you guys see any senarios where the Bucs will use Josh Johnson as a Slash-type player early in his career? Does he have that kind of ability? pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – We had heard that the Lions and Rams had expressed interest in Michael Pittman, but we haven't heard about much interest being expressed in Pittman as of late. bucsfan4ever: Storer (sp) bucsfan03: What do you think our regular season record will be in 08/09 detroitbuc: hi pewterreportsr: cadillac24 – Players in their 30s lose their appeal. Look at Jeremiah Trotter, Simeon Rice, Greg Spires and Shaun Alexander. Alexander can still play, but he's not a hot commodity anymore. Rice and Trotter are likely done. Spires only got a Kevin Carter-esque one-year deal. pewterreportjf: guest – There's been some speculation that the Bucs could try to trade Chris Simms to the New York jets or New York Giants, but I think that's only because of his father. bucsfan4ever: Lions = Bucs North guest: Speaking of Carter….who do you see as the odd men out on the DL this year? pewterreportsr: guest – The Bucs are real high on Byron Storer as B.J. Askew's backup. Rookie Carl Stewart will also be in the mix. Graham can also play some fullback. pewterreportjf: bucsfan03 – Tampa Bay's opponents are tougher in 2008 than they were in 2009, but I actually like the Bucs' schedule. The worst part is starting off the season in New Orleans and the back-to-back road trips in Dallas and Kansas City. If the Bucs can knock off the Saints I think they could become the first team to repeat as NFC South champs. pewterreportsr: che – I don't think Josh Johnson will be a slash-type player because of the game day roster limitations. He would have to be active and how many plays would he be in for – two or three? It's just not worth it from a game day activation standpoint. pewterreportsr: guest – I don't think Kevin Carter is a lock to make the team this year. bucsfan03: Any chance of Dexter Jackson starting in any games at WR pewterreportjf: guest – Kevin Carter could be the odd man out, but only if he shows his age. The Bucs value his leadership in the locker room. Patrick Chukwurah is fighting for a roster spot this year. cadillac 24: Why did Jeff Garcia make his contract demands open out to media instead of behind closed doors? che: Couldn't they list him as the #3 Emergency QB and still play him at other positions while not having him count against the total gameday #? guest: what kind of contract do yo think garcia wants, he is 38 pewterreportsr: bucsfan03 – I would be shocked if Dexter Jackson winds up as a starter on offense this year. pewterreportjf: bucsfan03 – I don't see Dexter Jackson starting a game in 2008. He'll be used as a slot receiver and return specialist as a rookie. He needs to prove himself before he gets on the field on offense. guest: What's the deal with C. Bennett? Last week you stated you'll have some info. I think!! cadillac 24: Do you think that Jimmy Wilkerson will make the team or do you think that he will be a Lance Legree or Kenny Smith of last year? guest: Yeah, how is C Bennett looking? guest: what is the update on rod coleman guest: Do you see Michael Bennett having a significant role this year? pewterreportsr: For the record Bucs fans, Brian Griese was NOT unhappy about being traded to Tampa Bay. I don't know where the Times got that report, but that was simply not the case. When that first came out, we were tipped off that that was an erroneous report. Brian Griese himself confirmed it today that not only was he happy to be back, he wish he had never left. guest: You probably answered this question many times before, but do you see Dexter Jackson a.) starting; b.) returning punts; c.) returning kicks? (Sorry to make you repeat.) pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – The media asked Jeff Garcia about his contract, so he answered the questions. The Bucs will not comment on his contract situation or any other player's contract situation, so it's one-sided. I'm not saying Garcia is right or wrong. I'm just giving you info. It's up to each person to decide whether Garcia has a gripe or not. cadillac 24: Do the Bucs have any more OTAs this week? pewterreportsr: guest – The Charles Bennett stuff is coming. He's looking good. I've got a long overdue SR's Fab 5 coming this week … and another one for next week, too! bucsfan4ever: If Paris Warren has a pre season like last year – who is odd man out for the recievers?? Would PW make the team?? bucsfan03: hows michael clayton look in practice since slimming down…Rookie Year Speed Level? che: Okay. Way too early predictions. Do either of you have any predictions on who might be this year's Greg White-type player. Someone who comes out of nowhere to make the team? Is there any buzz around a younger, obscure player? pewterreportsr: The Bucs have one more OTA tomorrow (Wednesday) and that's it for this week. antcam: My bad Scott, I wasnt trying to call u out guest: The whole Griese stuff was just hot air from little puppy to fill air time. guest: What's the skinny on Greg Peterson…please tell me he's going to be able to stick around cadillac 24: Did everyone show up to the OTA today except for Simms and Graham? pewterreportsr: che – It's too early to say which player could have a Greg White-type year. We haven't gotten to see the Bucs this much in the offseason. I think by June we might have a better idea. guest: Zuttah= the next "Refridgerator" Perry? pewterreportjf: guest – Michael Bennett's role could increase if Earnest Graham doesn't show up for organized team actviities. Earnest Graham was impressive last year because no one expected much from him. He scored 10 touchdowns and displayed good hands out of the backfield, but he only averaged 4.0 yards per carry. Those aren't Pro Bowl numbers. If Graham doesn't show up Jon Gruden likely will feature Warrick Dunn and Bennett, which would then hurt Graham when he becomes a free agent in 2009 at the age of 29. guest: Zuttah= the next "Refridgerator" Perry? guest: Do you think Michael Bennett will have a major role this year? antcam: Is G. Peterson egilble for the Practice Squad? guest: what rookie do you see starting? bucsfan4ever: Hey the Times just figured out Bruce is large and in charge!! ;-)) pewterreportsr: antcam – No worries. I wasn't talking about you. I was just simply stating how a lot of people picked up on another erroneous report and ran with it. pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – The media wasn't allowed on the field until after practice ended, so the only players we know of that didn't show up were Chris Simms and Earnest Graham. detroitbuc: when will pewterrport be able to get video tap interviews fromTC pewterreportsr: bucsfan4ever – Yes, the Times finally figured out that Bruce Allen IS the G.M. and NOT a puppet. Will wonders ever cease? I think we reported that in 2004 after Bruce's press conference and followed it up with our Teamwork article in June of 2005. pewterreportjf: che – I believe it will be tough for Greg White to repeat the success he had in 2007 again in 2008. He can still play well, but notching eight sacks and seven forced fumbles will be tough. He's no longer a secret. che: Anquan Boldin ran a 4.7 40 at the Combine. Yet, there isn't a WR in the league who is better at getting down the field. What might you attribute that to? antcam: What kind of feelings do you have about a major shake up coming reqarding the bucs? pewterreportsr: Wow. Flynn had so much conviction in that post that he posted it twice! bucsfan4ever: WHERE IS MY DIRTY DOZEN??? The draft has come and gone and no Hugh. Still out promo'ing his book?? cadillac 24: Will the media be able to watch the first part of the OTA practice tomorrow? bucsfan03: When does the new magazine come out…i'm eager for my first issue :/ pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – Yes, we recently hired Emily Gagnon to head up the PewterReport.com video department. NFL rules prohibit video featuring NFL employees being posted on websites for more than 24 hours, so we can only post the stories for 24 hours and it can only feature a total of 45 seconds of audio/video of NFL employees, but Emily is going to file those types of videos anyway for your viewing pleasure. Just be sure to check back on the site each day to make sure you see the videos before they have to come down. pewterreportsr: detroitbuc – PewterReport.com is revamping its video content and I think all of you will be pleasantly surprised this year. Good stuff is on the way. cadillac 24: What happend to Jenna? guest: I love revamped video content. pewterreportsr: bucsfan03 – The Post-Draft Issue of Pewter Report will be mailed next week. antcam: When is PR coming to Atlanta Bay again? pewterreportjf: bucsfan03 – The Pewter Report Draft Preview will be published and mailed next week. che: Yeah, what happened to Jenna? guest: If I want to add 1st class postage so I get my PR earlier, do I just call Subscriptions? pewterreportsr: cadillac24 – Jenna no longer works for Pewter Report. pewterreportsr: guest – Yes, just call subscriptions for the first class upgrade. pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – Jenna Laine is no longer with Pewter Report. Emily will be taking our video department in another direction. guest: Well, what happened, and we need details… pewterreportjf: guest – Yes, call 1-800-881-BUCS(2827) or e-mail Kim Roper at firstname.lastname@example.org. antcam: What else is The Pewterreport hiring for? pewterreportsr: 1-800-881-BUCS(2827) 9:00am-5:00pm tomorrow. bucsfan03: SR……hows michael clayton look in practice since slimming down…Rookie Year Speed Level? antcam: does that mean the phone lines pewterreportjf: guest – Sorry. There is a business side to Pewter Report, and we can't share the details nor do we care to. guest: How much money do you think Garcia is looking for? pewterreportsr: By law we can't go into the reasons why we parted ways with Jenna. As Flynn said, we are excited about what Emily will bring to our video department. guest: ancam – please chat in complete sentences. guest: I know, I was just kiddin. pewterreportsr: guest – If I had to guess, I believe Jeff Garcia is asking for $7 million per year. pewterreportjf: antcamp – As of right now Pewter Report is not hiring. Charlie Campbell was recently hired and he's doing one hell of a job, wouldn't you agree? antcam: I aplolgize guest!!!! guest: That's a little better. cadillac 24: How does 7 million a year compare to other QBs? pewterreportjf: Emily will also take the PewterReport.com video department to a whole new level. antcam: yes i would pewterreportsr: antcam- We don't have any current openings at Pewter Report, but thanks for your interest. guest: any word on what Dunn's thoughts are on the offense? guest: SR/JF…how would you guys score yourselves on the 08 draft as far as picking best bets/picks? detroitbuc: garica needs to get real guest: I wouldn't be upset if they gave him another year at 6 or 7, especially considering they owe him $1 million in a way already pewterreportjf: guest – No, we havne't had a chance to talk with Warrick Dunn recently. The media's access to the team, especially as it pertains to watching practice, has been extremely limited, which stinks. bucsfan03: PLUS, he helped bring us from worst…to first bucsfan4ever: Yeah guess you guys can't go to teh parking lot to watch anymore pewterreportsr: guest – We accurately forecasted the Bucs' interest in QB Josh Johnson, WR Dexter Jackson and OL Jeremy Zuttah (all were Bucs' Best Bets) and we had DT Dre' Moore in our mock draft in the magazine. That's four out of the seven players they drafted. It was our best year yet in terms of predictions and nobody else in the media even came close. pewterreportjf: guest – I don't really care to keep our own scorecard. We're our own worst critics, and I'd prefer our readers and subscribers do the scoring, whether it's our Draft Preview or any of our reporting for that matter. The reader should always decide. antcam: do you have to go through the team for any kind of media relations with a player? guest: Who is making the call to limit the press at practice? That is not smart, IMO. che: Dunn and Bennett both seem to fit the "speed back" role. Do the Bucs have a "hammer" if Graham holds out? pewterreportjf: guest – The Bucs and the NFL make the calls as it pertains to when and where the media can watch pracctice. guest: Askew could be a hammer if need be guest: The Bucs should read the best bets too. If they had listened to you on Wes Welker and Jared Allen we coudl be a much better team. guest: Are there any more FAs that the Bucs might be looking at currently? pewterreportsr: antcam – We go through the p.r. staff for formal player interviews, but Flynn and I have cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses for about half the team, so when we want off-the-record stuff, we usually reach out to players or other sources directly. alohabuc: I wonder if there will be a mini-NFL since there is no Euro NFL. Somewhat like AAA is for baseball bucsfan4ever: gotta run thunderstorms coming in fast. Thanks for the chat guys and I want a Dirty Dozen soon guest: I don't think anyone got any NFL draft prediction right, seriously. pewterreportjf: antcam – We go through Tampa Bay's public relations staff for player and coach interview requests, and they do a great job and don't get enough credit for helping us (the media) out. We try to give them credit when we can, but the public just doesn't see what they do to help us. We also have some player cell phones and e-mail addresses that we can use to contact them. antcam: Thanks guest: I don't just mean PR, I mean everyone regarding the draft predictions. scoots: the bucs brass have been right on on their analysis of players to release lately, (rice, quarles, etc…is simms the next one on the list or is he indeed healthy? guest: Do you think Piscatelli has a legit shot to start this year? If so who do you think he had the best chance to beat out? cadillac 24: Which players will be playing in the PR Charity Golf Tournament and was Hovan able to get a player for every foursome? pewterreportsr: scoots – I think Simms will get the boot whether he's healthy or not. I think Jon Gruden has simply decided that there are better QB options on the roster for his offense than Simms. pewterreportjf: scoots – It's probably time for Chris Simms and the Bucs to move on. I think will happen sooner rather than later, regardless of whether Simms is healthy or not. antcam: If the bucs make through the preseason with no major injuries, What are chances of beating the Aints? In your view!! pewterreportsr: guest – I don't think Piscitelli has a chance to start this year with Phillips and T-Jack playing so well last year. Piscitelli will likely take over for Phillips in 2009, though. guest: Will someone tell me why Hillary Clinton is on my TV? guest: The Saints are gonna be tough this year, no? They are our first regular season game. guest: What do you think about Cadillac saying he will return for training camp? pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – Are you playing in the Chris Hovan-Pewter Report Charity Golf Tournament? We hope to see you there. Our plan is to have one Bucs player on every foursome. So far it's looking like that will happen. Some big names have told us and Chris that they'll be there. That's all I can say at this point. pewterreportsr: antcam – I think the Bucs match up well with the Saints – regardless of where the game is. I think getting a shot at them before all of their newcomers have a chance to come together is a plus. pewterreportjf: guest – It's hard enough to keep up with the Bucs and the NFL, so I'm not going to even attempt to get into politics. :) cadillac 24: I will be going to the golf tournament this year and I am very excited. Me and my dad have been practicing for the last month. antcam: that's what i was thing to detroitbuc: can the Bucs beat Detroit this year?? pewterreportjf: guest – I think Cadillac Williams deserves a cape if he returns to action by training camp. I don't see that happening, but it would be amazing if it did. pewterreportsr: Flynn is right. Apparently we have some VERY big names coming to our golf tournament this year. The names will be revealed on Sunday and a lot of Bucs fans will have wished they had signed up (the tournament is sold out). guest: antcam you are regressing. scoots: how did antonio btyant look in the otas pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – Sure the Bucs can beat Detroit this year. They should have defeated them last year. bucsfan03: why are so many analysts around the league saying the saintss will win the NFC South…They act like the Bucs havent improved over the past year bucwarrior: If cadillac does return how do you think he will peform this coming year? guest: Even though Cadillac was struggling even before his injury, what a great story it would be if he healed and did well! pewterreportjf: scoots – I wish I could tell you how Antonio Bryant looked at practice, but we haven't been allowed to watch. antcam: Scott, Jim I read somewhere else that thier is a farm league for the NFL in the developmental stage? Have you heard anything about it? pewterreportsr: scoots – Haven't had a chance to watch too much of Antonio Bryant yet. We'll keep an eye on him next week when the practice is supposed to be open. antcam: Sorry guest alohabuc: Can you guys "Spygate" the practices? lol guest: much better! pewterreportjf: bucwarrior – The Bucs can't expect to receive much of a contribution from Cadillac Williams with him coming off a torn patellar tendon. That's a very serious injury that some players never recover from. Hopefully Cadillac defies the odds. guest: Guys – Any FAs that might join us before camp? bucwarrior: Ya i would love to see him recover to be great pewterreportjf: antcam – I've heard some things about a competing league, but don't know anything for sure. cadillac 24: My dad wants to know how they will pair up the players with the teams. Also, if we have a team of four, will a spectator be allowed? pewterreportsr: bucsfan03 – The national media has never given the Bucs a lot of respect. Why should they start now? As I said in my last SR's Fab 5, the Saints will be the media darling in the NFC South. Get used to it. It's only going to get worse between now and September. pewterreportjf: guest – The Bucs still are interested in free agent defensive tackle Rod Coleman despite the fact that they drafted Dre' Moore. guest: But the Saints have gotten even worse nation media, SR. alohabuc: Let's just hope the Saints don't have to go through another Katrina pewterreportjf: I've got to get going, Bucs fans. Thanks for joining the chat session this evening. che: Do you see Wilkerson, Douglas, and Carter all making the team? scoots: knees surgically rebuilt take over 1 year to completely heal, best to keep the caddy in the shop for a while to let it heal guest: Thanks SR and JF! bucwarrior: Thank you cadillac 24: Thanks guys alohabuc: thanks guys! scoots: thanks guys bucsfan03: PEACE, GRACIAS…. antcam: Thanks Scott, Jimmy "Supafly" and Guest!!!!! pewterreportsr: cadillac24 – Due to space restrictions, we can't accommodate spectators at the golf tourney. Most of the player assignments are done on a random basis. Our top-end sponsors do get to choose their Bucs players the day of the event. pewterreportsr: Thanks for the good questions, Bucs fans. That chat flew by quickly. We'll do it again next Tuesday night.
