It’s clear that parents are keeping their kids in that miserable stew of mediocrity. It’s been a shit box product for some time now.
Wut?
The Cowboys haven't been a top tier franchise in a long long time. The only way for them to retain their ratings level - 5 primetime games a year, is for a pool of downtrodden fans from yesteryear bullying their kids into fandom (poor stupid bastards). It's really something.
Interesting side note, as many feel that the AFCN is the best division in the game. In the past 10 seasons, the division has 11 playoff wins total. It's weird...

A fellow non-Cowboy fan.
The whole topic is a pretty interesting case study on expectations.
Over the last decade, the Cowboys have probably averaged about a win more per season than the Bucs (on average) but they are always hyped as a SB contender. And thats where the problem for them arises. For example, recently they have maybe 3 seasons with 12 wins? But they almost always seem to fall flat in the playoffs. I think two of those recent seasons are wild card knockouts. Maybe 3? Not sure
More than a generation has passed since Aikman and his 15 TDs in a season won the Super Bowl. Completely different game now. It’s clear that parents are keeping their kids in that miserable stew of mediocrity. It’s been a shit box product for some time now.
Since 2000, the Cowboys have the 11th most wins in the NFL. If that's a "shit box product", what are the 21st ranked (includes two Superbowl winning seasons) Buccaneers?

Probably going to regret this, but in the window you chose aren't the Bucs only 1 less win a season, on average? 222 v 198?
in that time span, don't the Cowboys have something like 6 wild card losses and 2 division playoff losses? and thats it?
We have 2 Super Bowls
Some of those years they are loaded with Pro Bowlers and All-Pros (partially due to their brand), especially relative to the Bucs.
This is why i said it comes down to expectations

Well, Tampa isn’t forced down your throat like the Cowboys are. Also, and I can answer for everyone on here, it’s way more important to grab eternity a couple or times than it is to be “sort of” competitive every year. The Cowboys are like Oasis. Fun the in the 90s but please don’t bust them out as something relevant today.
Well, Tampa isn’t forced down your throat like the Cowboys are.
While that wasn't the point you're now pivoting from, that is true. But you aren't required to have bad takes because of it.
Tampa isn’t forced down your throat like the Cowboys are
exactly.
And just as you say, no one is usually accepting of "sort of competitive" every year. In fact, around here its a criticism of the Bucs . . failures if they dont get "deep into the playoffs." Unevenly applied to the Cowboys. 12-5 records with wild card playoff loss . . . isn't failure lol
The Cowboys have the "11th most wins since 2000." The Bucs are 17th . . that's ONE less win per season BUT the Bucs have 2 Super Bowls in that same window lol.
The Bucs are NOT "America's team," not projected every season as a Super Bowl contender etc etc . . no JER-ah . . just Licht . . AND TWO SUPER BOWLS.
The point seems to me that there is Cowboy fatigue due to the team being marketed as a winner, but really not performing all that differently than the Buccaneers over the same time frame.
I get it, replace the Bucs with Cowboy media overexposure, and the Bucs would be evicerated in the media.
Performance comparison kinda proves that the Cowboys benefit from being a marketing darling, but have delivered weak performance.

Really?
Care to give an example?

TO SOME . .. the 4 time division winning Bucs are the "shitbox product" . . .that is a failure "unless they go deep into the playoffs."
The Cowboys are NOT the "shitbox product" even though they NEVER seem to go deep in the playoffs . . They are NOT the "shitbox product" because the . . um . . proper metric is REGULAR SEASON wins over 25 years . .
JC wants his funny math back

DH, didn't you say BEFORE the 2024 season that it would be a failure unless the Bucs went deep into the playoffs? Wasnt that the STANDARD that you applied to success (ie to NOT be a "shitbox team")?
