Jacquies Smith, a 24-year-old defensive end that came to Tampa Bay via the waiver wire earlier this season, earned his second career start Sunday and continues to impress on the field.
Smith’s high-motor play has contributed to the Bucs’ improved pass rush and he got in on the action again in Chicago. Smith picked up a first-quarter sack of Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, giving him four in the past four games.
In addition to the sack, Smith recorded two total tackles, a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit and batted down one of Cutler’s passes at the line.
Thank God for the waiver line. He is a keeper.
We have found our LE of the future. One bright spot this year.
One of those tackles was a great stop on a screen. What a great find!
Kudos to Jason Licht and staff on this one. Now if they can only dig up a new center and guard.
