The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of several teams the Denver Broncos have contacted over the last several weeks in their attempt to trade wide receiver Javon Walker.
But that doesn't mean the Buccaneers will actually pull the trigger on the trade for Walker.
In fact, Tampa Bay was originally contacted by Denver a few weeks ago and has not discussed a possible trade for Walker at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis this week. League sources have told Pewter Report that Denver has shopped Walker around to practically every team in the league, including the Buccaneers.
Walker, 29, originally entered the NFL in 2002 as a first-round draft pick out of Florida State. He spent the first four seasons of his career with Green Bay, producing a career-best, 89-catch and 12-touchdown season with the Packers in 2004.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Walker has spent the past two seasons with Denver, where the Broncos run a version of the West Coast offense that is similar to the one Tampa Bay operates under head coach Jon Gruden.
Walker caught 69 passes for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns in his first season with the Broncos in 2006. However, he played in just eight games last season due to a knee injury and caught 26 passes for 287 yards and no touchdowns.
The former Florida State standout has gone public with his desire to leave the Broncos for a better situation, and Tampa Bay would seem to be a realistic possibility since he played collegiately in the state of Florida and the Buccaneers are in the market for a wide receiver.
Walker has caught 252 career passes for 3,815 yards (15.1 avg.) and 30 touchdowns in six seasons in the NFL.
While a trade still could be a possibility, the Buccaneers may wait to see if Walker is released by the Broncos before showing serious interest in acquiring him this offseason.
