So who will be available when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select with the fifth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft? Well, if you’re having trouble figuring out the answer to that question, you’re not alone. Buccaneers officials have told Pewter Report that the discouraging aspect of this year’s draft is that there is no franchise player and no set top 5 players.

Although they might disagree in terms of which teams players will land with, past mock drafts have typically had a consensus top 10. However, this year’s mock drafts can’t even agree on the top 5, and Buccaneers officials have even concurred with that notion.

Pewter Report has compiled a list of top 10 projections from eight well-respected mock drafts. With the exception of Ourlads with Texas running back Cedric Benson, Michigan wide receiver Braylon Edwards and Benson are the only two players that appear in the top 5 of all the mock drafts, and Edwards is currently the only player to appear in the top 5 in all eight mock drafts.

With their current salary cap challenges (approximately $14 million over the salary cap), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers probably won’t be a huge player in free agency and will use their 11 draft picks to help upgrade their roster.

The Bucs have put together two straight losing seasons and a 12-20 regular season record since winning Super Bowl XXXVII. Needless to say, the 2005 NFL Draft is arguably the biggest draft in franchise history.
