The Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent part of Monday meeting with free agent tackles Jason Fabini (New York Jets) and Mike Pearson (Jacksonville) at One Buccaneer Place.
Fabini, 31, played eight seasons for the Jets, starting all 114 of the games he played in since 1998. Most of Fabini’s playing time came at left tackle.
The 6-foot-7, 304-pound Fabini started every game for five straight seasons until last year when he suffered a torn pectoral muscle in November. That injury sidelined Fabini for the season, and the Jets released him in a salary cap maneuver a few weeks ago.
Bucs offensive coordinator/line coach Bill Muir and quarterbacks coach Paul Hackett worked with Fabini during their tenures with the Jets.
Tampa Bay has already met with free agent Ts Brad Hopkins (Tennessee) and Tom Ashworth (New England). Both are waiting to receive contract offers from the Bucs.
Right tackle Kenyatta Walker, who started all 16 regular season games for Tampa Bay in 2005, is an unrestricted free agent. The Bucs have not made re-signing Walker a priority.
