Pewter Report uses this installment of Flynn’s Focus to give Bucs fans an idea of what types of incentives Bucs players had in their contracts in 2006, and whether those incentives were triggered to impact Tampa Bay’s 2007 salary cap.

There are basically two types of incentives – likely to be earned (LTBE) and not likely to be earned (NLTBE).

In order to classify an incentive as LTBE, the player must have achieved that particular performance level the previous season. Some of the more common LTBE incentives are roster and workout bonuses.

If a player did not reach a particular performance level the prior season, it must be classified as a NLTBE incentive. For example, if a player did not make the Pro Bowl in 2005, a Pro Bowl incentive in 2006 would be deemed NLTBE.

NLTBE incentives don’t count against a team’s salary cap unless the player achieves that performance level. The result is a cap hit on the following year's cap.

The NFL Management Council approves all LTBE and NLTBE incentives in player contracts, and at the end of each year, each team submits what the players actually earned, which allows them to determine what their actual salary cap status is heading into the new league year.

Listed below are the LTBE and NLTBE incentives Bucs players had in their contracts in 2006. Pewter Report indicates whether or the player triggered the incentive.

Anthony Becht
LTBE: $500,000 roster bonus, $6,160 workout bonus. Becht earned these roster bonuses.

Josh Bidwell
LTBE: $100,000 roster bonus. Bidwell earned this bonus.

Juran Bolden
LTBE: $5,720 workout bonus. Bolden earned this bonus.
NLTBE: $135,000 for a predetermined amount of interceptions or Pro Bowl. Bolden did not achieve these bonuses.

Derrick Brooks
LTBE: $5,720 workout bonus Brooks earned this bonus.
NLTE: None

Matt Bryant
LTBE: $5,720 workout bonus. Bryant earned this bonus.
NLTBE: $100,000 Pro Bowl. Bryant did not trigger this incentive.

Anthony Davis
LTBE: $6,160 workout bonus. Davis earned this bonus.
NLTBE: $50,000 for Pro Bowl. Davis did not trigger this incentive.

Joey Galloway
LTBE: $250,000 roster bonus and another $100,00 bonus. Galloway earned these bonuses.

Bruce Gradkowski
LTBE: None
NLTE: $67,000 for Pro Bowl, honors, Super Bowl MVP. Gradkowski did not trigger any of these incentives.

Doug Jolley
LTBE: None
NLTBE: $100,000 for individual incentives. Jolley did not trigger these incentives.

Davin Joseph
LTBE: None
NLTBE: $800,000 with minimum playing time. $50,000 Pro Bowl, honors. Joseph did not trigger any of these incentives.

Brian Kelly
LTBE: $400,000 roster bonus. Kelly earned this bonus.

Shelton Quarles
LTBE: $200,000 bonus for playing time. Despite playing in just 12 games, Quarles triggered this bonus.

Greg Spires
LTBE: $2,000,000 roster bonus. Spires earned this bonus.

Maurice Stovall
LTBE: None
NLTBE: $25,000 bonus with playing time. $150,000 bonus for Pro Bowl, receptions, touchdowns and yards. Stovall did not trigger any of these incentives.

Jeremy Trueblood
LTBE: None
NLTBE: $25,000 for Pro Bowl. Trueblood did not trigger this incentive.

Kenyatta Walker
LTBE: $300,000 roster bonus. $50,000 workout bonus. Walker earned these bonuses.
NLTBE: $75,000 for Pro Bowl. Walker did not trigger this incentive.

Jamie Winborn
LTBE: None
NLTBE: $50,000 Pro Bowl. Winborn did not trigger this incentive.
