You have a hard time with this I know. Fiscal conservatives like me, Rand Paul, Justin Amash, Mike Lee, Thomas Massie, want the Federal government to be about one one hundedth of the size it is. You get proposals from people like this to get rid of the department of education, the EPA and many others. They would cut the military, foriegn aid, all kinds of things the federal government does currently and shouldn’t be doing on the level they are.

How are you going to get there? How are you even going to move in that direction when the overwhelming impulse from the congress and most of the populace, is to spend whatever funds they have at their disposal. A balanced budget is just a step in curtailing spending but the overarching goal is to cut spending. Even if you can convince the spenders in congress to finally balance a budget, it would only be a first step because we are spending way too much as it is.
