Shaq is more important than some people think. Not only are his stats great, but many players on the team see him as one of the major reasons they won last season. I put a lot of credence in the players themselves who are saying this. I am sure BA agrees. People forget that players like Shaq are not just just cogs in a wheel that can easily be replaced. Losing him would be a psychological loss and a blow to the camaraderie that the team has built up. Sports is more mental than people realize.

Do you want to lose Shaq and then regret the choice later, saying, why didn’t we do more to keep him? I don’t want to be in that boat–I want to keep the defense in one piece–the defense that held the invincible Chiefs to no TDs.
