It's not about wanting to give others more time, it's about giving some starters less. You can't let players continue to start when they're performing the way they are, that's showing the team accountability isn't important. In baseball you'll see players given a day or two off if their in a slump, often times they'll come back and play much better. It's not the exact same thing, obviously, but a game or two off for some of these guys could really help out. Even if the backups play just as poorly, who cares? It's not likely they'll play worse, that would be very difficult to do. It's our bye week, perfect time to make some changes. I'm not holding my breath though, Lovie showed with his handling of the QB situation that he doesn't believe in anyone having to earn their playing time.
Hard to light a fire under them when their backups are going to play worse than them. They're just going to be given back their position the next week.
