Back up DT from the eagles, 6’2 330, 26 year old. Strictly a Run stuffer sounds like. Played almost as much as jernigan did laat year
The DTs he played behind were both making 12 mil a Year as well.

I know nothing about him. I guess he is here to provide depth and we view McDonald as the starting DT next year.
Please wait… -
He’s 6’2….either way.. I’m getting his jersey and season tickets.
Please wait… -
Mcdonald is not under contract
Please wait… -
McDonald is currently a free agent so right now Beau Allen is the starting NT.

Are we sure McCoy can get his 12+ million dollar ego to coexist with this guy? SMDH

Championship!!! Boom fire the cannons!!!

Typcial meh signing that will excite the Red Board gms because he’s “cheap and fills a need”. Let’s keep grabbing benchwarmers and pray they can become “the guy” in tampa…its worked so well for us.

Not every player is brought in to be “the guy.” A problem this team has every year is depth, but the fan base always wants to whine when we add depth instead of blowing cash on an overrated FA and then whine in the fall when we suck with all our injuries.

Versus the big name, big price tag FA’s that Licht has brought in during his tenure. Those have definitely worked out.

Thats why Jason Licht is the skid mark on the underpants of most GM’s in this league. When he swings he misses, badly as proven. So yes, you are correct in your assertion.

You know what is ironic about that statement.
All of our “meh signings” over the past few years have turned out way better and contributed much more than the big name, big money guys.
But keep fighting that good fight.

Probably about as many as the big name signings…

The same amount as the addition of the big name, money hungry, me-first signings of guys that are too busy working on their brand to care about winnning.
At a fraction of the cost and a fraction of the headache.

McDonald has only missed significant time 1 out of 4 seasons in Tampa Bay. He’s played 460+ snaps 3 out of 4 years, which is what you expect a rotating DT to play.

This is the kind of signing that helps you win. One of the better run defenders in the NFL according to the analytics.

You’re right. Your route of going expensive and mediocre has been an amazing formula for success!
Good talk indeed, sport.

I think it’d a no brainer to bring back McDonald.
I can’t imagine there is a bidding war going on for his services, he is a leader on and off the field, and he is a solid rotational piece.
Bucs need as much defensive line depth as they can get their hands on.

I advocate bringing McDonald back as well. This line needs additions not subtractions.

Solid depth for a thin DT position.

Not saying lets spend all our money on every big name free agent. But lets not act like big name guys haven’t contributed. Just because our current GM sucks at it doesn’t mean it’s not possible. The Jags who a lot you red borad gm’s want to imulate, had to overpay to get their FA’s and it worked out. Doesn’t always work out but that should stop you from trying. You guys are too worried about saving money that’s not even yours.

Really? Give us a list of all the big name/high price tag guys that Licht has brought in that have contributed.
And, funny how (in the very next line) you complain that our GM sucks, yet you want him to go on a spending spree for overrated and overpriced FA’s.
Sounds similar to the ones banging the drum for DJax last year and who are berating Licht for not trading him this year.

Did you read the whole post or just what you wanted?? Big name FA have contributed to other teams. Our GM isn’t good at getting the RIGHT big name FA. Got it? No one said anything about a spending spree…again thanks for trying.

I read your whole post. Nothing more than you backpedaling.
Again, you’ve made numerous posts complaining that we haven’t signed (insert overrated, big name player here), but then acknowledge that Licht is incapable of getting it right with big name FA’s.
So, it looks like you’re just bitching to bitch.

Overrated according to who? You? Who the fuck are you? I’m sure you think Sherman is overrated but let’s revisit this next season when he’s making an impact for the 9iners and we’re still complaing about lack of talent in the secondary. Jason sucks at getting the right FA but do I want him to stop trying hell no. No backpaddling just stating the facts.

No, I don’t think Sherman is overrated. But, you’re damn right I’d be weary of signing someone coming off an Achilles tear. And, while you were too busy whining like a bitch, you might have noticed that he seemed awfully quick to sign with Lynch. Which brings me to my next point with you and the other whiny vags on here. Did it ever occur to any of you that some of these guys simply don’t want to come here? Aside from the lack of state tax and good weather, there’s literally no incentive to play for a cellar dweller that essentially has a lame duck HC and GM.

Talented player that allows us to rotate the NT position (important for dudes that size). I’m all for it.

Ding Ding Ding!!! So given the fact that there’s no incentive to play here, what does Tampa have to do to draw quality free agents??? Say it with me….OVERPAY!!!!!!! So if we’re gonna do that, might as well go for a proven guy than a one year wonder or rotational guy on a stacked team!

Again, even if we overpay someone (within reason), there’s no guarantee that they want to come here. And, again, overpaying FA’s hasn’t produced squat under Licht’s watch. Continuing to do so, while expecting a different result, is foolish.
And, as I said in another post, I think the whole subject is moot. I truly think he’s on a leash this year. Lame duck.

Agreed. If I were him, the only way to save his job and season would be to go after real talent. You can clearly see that the Browns are trying to get better by the guys their bringing in…same with the 49ers. We won’t be able to compete with Saints, Panthers, & Falcons by just stockpiling average guys.

Per NFL.com on Beau Allen
He was drafted to play nose tackle in a 3-4 defense, but Allen proved scheme-versatile and remained a key part of the defensive line rotation in Jim Schwartz’s 4-3 system over the past two seasons. Allen had a sack and 12 quarterback pressures during the Eagles’ 2017 Super Bowl run.
What Mike Smith covets!…. Versatile DLine.

We had trouble stopping the run this past year. So if he can come in here and help stop the nose bleed, great. You got to realize though the Eagles have plenty of talent on that DL though. Cox, Graham, Barnett, and Curry to playing with Spence, McCoy, and Ayers will be night and day. Hope he is up for the challenge. Still think TB needs to keep looking to add players on the DL in draft. DE and DT
Please wait… -
At worse we get to rotate our defensive linemen. Patriots kill you by not letting you sub in players, but the Eagles would sub players out by series. Either way having a good rotation will help us in the 4th quarter.
Please wait… -
Allen is a good rotational piece and can stop the run. I dig it.

I think it’s funny of all of these guys banging on Jason Licht!!!!….. I guess, you all forgot about the dumpster diver Mark Dominik….Or, CAP HELL after Bruce Allen…..
Of course, he needs to get it going! And he will, gotta trust the process! We are Light Years of where we were!
Plenty of Players and talent still available!

I think signing this guy is awesome. It totally makes sense for Licht to sign mediocre players. He is terrible at signing good players. While many good players exchange teams every year, and good GM’s can figure out which FA’s will be good or bad, Licht has no such ability. So far, he has proven very capable of evaluating college LB’s, and that’s what makes a great GM. So, as long as we are all in agreement that he is the worst GM in the league at signing good players, then we can be excited that this guy will truly do what he has already done – be mediocre. I guess our expectations are crazy for actually wanting Licht to sign good players. We are stupid for even hoping for that, I guess. By making this amazing signing, our D-Line currently stands to be just as bad, if not worse than last year.

This is my favorite day on this board.
Well, day three of the draft when the last pick comes in and we didn’t pick any of JDouble’s Fabulous Fifty is pretty sweet too. But man, today is tough to beat.

@Graham
Yup. I was going to do it for Sutton or Jensen (depending on who we pick up…assuming we do pick up one), but I can do it for Allen.
Let me take a look at their schedule, pick two interesting games, and I’ll get some stuff up in the coming days.

$5 mil a year would be pretty stiff for a rotational NT. I think he’s pretty well penciled in at starter. I do wonder what his and Mitch Unrein’s signings mean for Clinton McDonald.
Please wait… -
Allen has size but he moves well enough that he is a good fit for one gap scheme too. Overall I like this signing a lot.
Also, it is possible that McDonald comes back too.

Mcdonald is done as a Buc
GMC
SteveiT
Allen
Unreinthey won’t keep more then 4 dt, gholston can also kick inside
Please wait… -
Bucs have kept five DT’s in the past with the fifth DT being a goal line specialist. Siliga, McDonald may be re-signed and compete with Stevie T for the last two spots as reserves and goal line specialists.
