Prior to Cappa getting thrown, I have to laugh at the “protection” of Dotson and Smith. My goodness, why did they give Smith all that money?

Smith, Dotson are the worst combo of tackles in the league. Easily.

And despite their possibly being an outlet available on that last play (don’t know), the willingness to get near the LoS and eat it on that last play when we’re in FG range (rather than force it downfield recklessly or give up a Sack > Fumble from behind) is nice to see.

Mayfield’s performance, or lack thereof, this evening, is because of Todd Bowles. It’s going to take Buc’s fans a minute to get used to sound defensive scheming. But Todd is the true hero tonight. Not Mayfield’s lack of ability.

      Observations…

We have no run game. I just don’t see it with Rojo, he falls down with arm tackles. Peyton is also not special.

Pass protection continues to be a weakness. I get Browns defense is talented, but Bucs won’t have a top tier oline this season.

Defense looks improved. Will be tough for offenses to run on us with the beef we got inside. Secondary looks much more aggressive – Davis, Whitehead, and Stewart. I’d also like to see Bucannon see the field even when LVD comes back.

I love how Jamies is taking the sack and not throwing prayers when pressured. Although his deep ball accuracy is concerning.

Godwin is going to be fun to watch.

No need to panic YET with Devin White.

Nassib is slow, unathletic, and soft. High motor guy, but I’d rather have Spence and Barrett off the edge all day long.

Jameis going back to his old ways. Ignored Perriman for the checkdown. Too fucking stupid to realize you get a speedy guy the ball in space, he’ll get you extra yards

Feel like he’s just trying to force a big play without forcing throws … just to get a score….my biggest worry from this game is oline…

Bucs offense running deep and mid routes when their defense is sagged 10 yards.

Lefty has to scheme a bit better. Or Winston needs to read what is given and take it rather than still forcing the issue

Yeah. Jameis isn’t developing as rapidly as the preseason hype reports have let out, I see the same guy from last season.

The offensive line has compounded the problem if not the source of the problem. Arians might leave the O out there for while, though I hope not.

I do hope that Smith, Dotson, Cappa, and Jensen play the vast part of QTR 3.

They need the reps, they are “rusty”. Or just flat out don’t belong with the 1’s based on their shitty play. The offensive line is a heavily leaking dam about to break

      1st half thoughts:

Defense lights out rush and coverage.  Mayfield also played like crap because he is used to big throwing windows.

Missing Edwards, Vea, JPP and LVD?  That is damn good.

2nd year DB’s Whitehead, Stewart, and Davis look legit NFL defenders out there. Each had a stop on third down.

Perriman is going to be a big part of the offense this year.  His hands look improved.

RoJo is a much more patient runner.  Ogunbowale has the most juice.

Marpet and Jensen are okay. Dotson looks really bad, while D. Smith struggles.  Cappa was schooled.

Pinion has no hang time on his punts.  No bueno.

Santos has a chance to make a push.

Miller out there with the 1s is a very telling sign.

Winston made one bad decision in this game thus far, and it was that third down with a chance to move the chains.  That is what R. Barber said on the telecast and I agree 100%.

Winston has played smart which is why the Bucs have been in this game and given the defense a chance while also taking the team downfield for a field goal opportunity which Gay missed.

      Additional thoughts:

I don’t see Gholston being cut as it has been speculated.  Gholston is too valuable for special teams and as a DE.

Nacho is going to be a big part of the defense in nickel and dime formations.

Suh is showing up in a big way compared to McCoy swollen up that center.  Vea comes back and it will be fun to watch.

Spence is going to force many holding calls if he keeps playing fast and hard.

Buccanon out there as a nickel and dime defender is great flexibility as Cleveland wanted to isolate a mismatch. For those that don’t know Buccanon came into the league as a safety so having him on the field to play the run, blitz or pass is going to be huge.

      D. White – He deserves the green dot based on this game the Bucs D played.  He is communicating and organizing out there the D.

      D. White also has been tackling properly by wrapping up.  White’s college tape he would drag players down which will not work at the NFL level.

First half the defense is definitely showing they are improved. Particularly our secondary. As for the offense…. the suspect oline really showing us we have much to worry about. And Jameis is definitely affected in his decision making by that fact. He totally had guys wide open underneath in the middle in the 2nd quarter. Got to take those easy ones the defense gives you… let the players make a play. I am seriously concerned about Jameis staying healthy this year with this crap oline.

No longer is it a joke to say this team is the browns of the south west or east….browns are a better roster ,and team than the Bucs

Net net – the Buc’s defense is going to be much improved largely because of hiring Todd Bowles and a really solid draft. The Bucs will be fine on offense. They played the best of the best tonight.

Noah Spence is not good. This is beyond speculation. He isn’t explosive, has no violent phone booth speed to power slam, not twitchy at all.

I would cut him. Wasting time on this kid, let him swim the free agent waters.

Well the 1’s were a shit show on offense today. Griffin is the preseason MVP again… is there anyone in the league that looks as good with 3sv3s than Griffin?

Leftwich got severely out coached today… hope it’s just lack of game planning for a meaningless preseason game, but definitely doesn’t give warm fuzzies that this offense will magically click week 1. We had the perfect drive in the first preseason game but since the 1s have been sloppy and impotent.

If you know anything about football, you know that this Cleveland D is better than anything that Chicago is trotting out. Put your man love for Khalil Mack down and learn the game. You sound like a 12 year old super fan. Embarrassing.

One team gave up a league best 17.7 points per game last year. The other gave up more than a touchdown difference per.

One was ranked 3rd in yards given up last year. The other was ranked 30th.

One has been consistently predicted to be a Top-5 unit this season by all the pundits, analysts, etc. The other, not so much.

Take a seat and go watch Manchester United. More your speed.

Man, this is a Nancy sized L for you. Hilarious.

What a pussy ass reply, DH took you behind the woodshed so I suppose I can understand you have absolutely nothing to come back with, lol

Oh ghost, your ability to opine with such feminine gratitude is new to the board. Please grace us with such great replies as “You have absolutely nothing to come back with”. Anyone using last year’s stats to prop up this year’s argument needs a course in football history. Cleveland is the best defense in the NFL this year. Period.

How about actual facts……. you are the first person, and you don’t seem to know anything based on your posts, that has said Cleveland is the best D this season….. they aren’t even close, so give me some actual facts to back up this crazy claim….. sorry the OLine got destroyed, but it wasn’t because they were playing against some crazy great defense, give the homerism a bit of a tone down.

So Cleveland, man for man, doesn’t have the most talented defense in the NFL? Again, name a team that is better. And no, unless you know absolutely nothing and are a complete casual, the Chicago Bear’s defense is not as talented as Cleveland’s. Sorry your pie is so raw and sore this morning.
