In 2020 hate crimes were DOWN overall but hate crimes against Asians skyrocketed

      https://www.voanews.com/usa/race-america/hate-crimes-targeting-asian-americans-spiked-150-major-us-cities

As recent as last week, Trump referred to the virus as the China virus.

Republican governor Larry Hogan was just on a Sunday news show talking about the actual experience of his family (his wife is Korean I think)

For 4 years Trumpettes have acted as if Trump’s racist megaphone was no big deal

A guy tried to bomb Trump critics, a guy TRAVELED to the border to kill “invaders”

The Capitol was attacked by supporters looking for Pence

And so on and so forth …

There were 122 incidents of anti-Asian American hate crimes in 16 of the country’s most populous cities in 2020

16 of the nation’s liberal Meccas? How’s that possible?

NBCNews engaged in a random act of journalism with this article, which is at odds with Mr. Cronkite’s race-baiting:

      https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/violence-against-asian-americans-why-hate-crime-should-be-used-n1258793

Sliman Nawabi, a deputy public defender who is representing Antoine Watson, 19, in the San Francisco incident, said there is “absolutely zero evidence that Mr. Ratanapakdee’s ethnicity and age was a motivating factor in being assaulted.”

“This unfortunate assault has to do with a break in the mental health of a teenager. Any other narrative is false, misleading, and divisive,” Nawabi said.

Point: the Packers are better than the Vikings because they’ve beaten then the lost 4 Tim’s snd by an average of 22 points

The random act of journalism from NBCNews, in which the author is of Asian descent, references multiple events that fucktards like you labeled as a hate crime that had nothing to do with race. Give it a read and educate yourself. Or don’t, and carry-on with the intellectually dishonest race-baiting. You’ll have plenty of fellow useful idiots hop right along.

The three incidents aren’t being investigated as hate crimes, but publications and activists have grouped them under the term without supporting evidence that they have been racially motivated.

I have a pretty good idea as to what decision a piece of shit like yourself will make. Who needs supporting evidence when a good race-baiting is your mission?

Calling a story about Trump’s words “race baiting” is rich lol

Trump is a selfish ego maniac. He uses “Chynna virus” to DEFLECT from his own failings.

Just like CHOOSING to get vaccinated in private when his followers are one of the biggest vaccine reluctant groups.

The problem for Trumpers is that to acknowledge any of Trumps failings is to acknowledge their own or that, at best, they were conned.

The point of the thread was that his words matter (given the former size of the megaphone) … ignore that obvious point by claiming a public defender asserted one crime wasn’t a hate crime (lol) or now that it’s “race baiting”

      Pfft

      https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/smashed-windows-racist-graffiti-vandals-target-asian-americans-amid-coronavirus-n1180556

“In another instance in Yakima, Washington, in late March, Tony Yan was checking up on his restaurant, Minado Buffet, which he had closed in concordance with the state’s shelter-in-place directive.

Lisa Li, his wife and co-owner, said the windows were broken and a message was spray-painted in black on the restaurant’s exterior: “Take the corona back you chink.”

      . . .

In the Midwest, Muyang Deng, a University of Wisconsin sophomore, left her residence on March 24 and saw a message scrawled in chalk across the street from the campus: “It’s from China #chinesevirus.”

      ….

In the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, home to one of the largest Asian American populations in the country, Josh Fleagane and Madeline Yang said they were driving in Pasadena on March 13 when they saw a defaced “Mulan” movie poster.
“It was on the opposite side of the street, so we made a U-turn,” Fleagane said. “It was important to document.”

A white mask was spray-painted over Mulan’s mouth, as well as the words “Toxic, Made in Wuhan.”

“San Gabriel Valley is the home of so many Asians,” Yang said. “By putting that in the middle of Pasadena, you know you’re broadcasting your message to a huge part of the Asian-American community.”

      🙄

Sure, give it a try, Mr. Mayor. The Asian NBCNews reporter had enough sense to know that not every crime against any Asian is based on their race when she applied nuance to each situation. Of course, this type of thinking doesn’t benefit the race-baiters, so it’s mostly done away with in Mr. Cronkite’s media circles.

the article is not a strawman, it is an article

using the article (not all crimes against Asians are hate crimes) as a response to the thread (“Trumps words have consequences”) is a strawman (“an intentionally misrepresented proposition that is set up because it is easier to defeat than an opponent’s real argument.“)

and, of course, this comment by you is completely untrue:

“the article you linked in the OP tabulating every crime against Asians as hate crime”

The article in the OP is discussing a SUBSET of crimes involving Asian victims that were categorirized by the FBI as “hate crimes,” not “every crime against Asians as hate crime” . . I guess you maybe think that 2020 only saw 122 actual crimes in 16 major cities perpetrated against Asians LMAO. This is from the article:

even the article you linked ACKNOWLEDGES that most of the 122 are hate crimes. You just have to read a little more closely . . first two paragraphs:

The robberies and assaults in several big-city Chinatowns have led to significant media coverage and outcry from activists, many of whom have labeled the incidents hate crimes. But recent higher-profile cases that have gone viral on social media aren’t being investigated as such, law enforcement officials say. Officials say the occurrences don’t show signs of being racially motivated

And he blames it on “having a bad day”.

When The Boomtown Rats did “I Don’t Like Mondays”, it was based upon a school shooting, where someone opened fire on a school playground. The response as to what motivated the shooting, the response was “I don’t like Mondays”.

Now this guy is trying to push off his excuse is due to frustration over a sex addiction. Ummm, yeah, so your addicted to sex, so you have to go on a shooting spree at spas?

I’ve been to Atlanta a number of times. If you have an addiction to sex, there are a lot more areas based upon sex than a few Asian Spas. He drove past how many red light districts, passing how many hookers and strip clubs, just to target spas? I think this dude is reaching a bit.

You are highlighting the point made the NBCNews reporter. People were attacked, some of whom were Asian, and you assume it was simply because they were Asian. You can’t help it. You’ve been brainwashed to think that way. Race-baiting, rinse, and repeat.

The investigation is still ongoing, and this guy looks to be a nutbag, but I have yet to see anything about him being a white supremacist. Outside of dumbasses like you and Mr. Cronkite, that is.

      https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/03/17/us/shooting-atlanta-acworth

The suspect told the police that he had a “sexual addiction” and had carried out the shootings at the massage parlors to eliminate his “temptation,” the authorities said on Wednesday. He also said that he had frequented massage parlors in the past and launched the attacks as a form of vengeance. All but one of the victims were women, the police said.

Capt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said that Mr. Long had told the police he was driving to Florida when he was caught after the shootings on Tuesday evening, and that he said he may have been trying to commit similar violence at a business connected to the “porn industry” there.

I’m sure that porn business in Florida was chock-full of Asians.

Biggs joins a long list of fringe idiots that think they are objective centrists

I’m sure that porn business in Florida was chock-full of Asians

Not really, which is why this guy, either through targeting from anger or objectification, chose to attack businesses that were predominantly associated with Asians, and iirc, all but one victim was Asian. Atlanta, like Florida, has a lot more prostitutes and strip clubs, yet he chooses to skip all of those targets to concentrate on spas? If the whack job, (yes, I’ll agree the dude looks “touched”), chooses to skip the hardcore sex districts so he can hit strip malls where the most you would probably get is Happy Finish?

Sorry, if he’s going with the “whacked out sex addict” Defense, then his actions contradict what his targets should have been. That is, unless there is documentation that can show where targeting massage girls makes more sense than going after hookers. A sex addict, who’s been through rehab has never called on the services of a hooker? You saw the pic of that guy. That is the face of someone who can’t be picky over their sex partners. That dude is so hideous he probably will avoid gang rape in prison.

When you kill eight people, and seven are Asian, you have to at least acknowledge a pattern.

Also, regardless of hate crime vs not hate crime, when you kill eight people in one night, and only stop because you were caught, is there any real relevance to whether or not it’s a hate crime? I would think that facing eight Capital Murder charges probably carries a pretty rough sentence, do if you’re facing eight life sentences, (probably at the least), then where do you apply the added punishment associated with committing hate crimes?

If it was just aggravated assault, then yeah, adding in a hate crime penalty possibly packs on a heftier sentence.

Plus, it’s Georgia. That isn’t the bastion of civil liberties there. Say they give him a death sentence. If it’s a hate crime, do they kill him, revive him, and kill him again, for good measure?

The dude killed eight people in one night, most of whom were Asian. That’s really about all that needs to be said.

I can’t recall. Somewhere I read someone be posting that it wasn’t a hate crime. I really don’t recall where without re-reading the thread.

Perhaps it was some comments that stated that Asians weren’t being targeted, even though they were definitely being targeted.

Regardless, I am off the understanding that a hate crime is a crime committed against an individual due to that individual’s specific demographic. Again, regardless, it’s irrelevant at the state level, as Georgia is one of the states that do not have hate crimes on the books, so if they were to charge on a hate crime, it would have to be a federal offense; however, as I mentioned, why bother? The dude is facing eight murder charges, and that doesn’t even add in the secondary and tertiary charges that prosecution will tack on.

Based on the information (as opposed to rhetoric) coming out, the only thing the guy hated was his own pecker.

He went after massage parlours. There are a lot of massage parlours, just like nail salons, that are run by people of far eastern descent. I don’t know why to be honest (outside of Hollywood movies), but look around and say it ain’t so.

I can’t really think of an appropriate analogy other than Swedish au pairs, and I can’t see anyone getting a shitty on with that demographic. But, I do think people are playing the race hate card here just because they can, and not because it is applicable – as things stand. Let’s be honest, if Liberals loved Asian Americans that much they wouldn’t make it so hard for them to gain entry to top US Colleges and Universities would they?

Biden just told immigrants from south of the border to stay home and not come here, so does that mean every Latino that gets murdered by a non Latino to be laid at the feet of Joe? I don’t think so. Let’s be real about this.

This passage, bolded, makes light of the fact that all but one of the victims were Asian by diluting it to “some”, yet it was apparent that Asians were the primary target. (You may be able to use an argument that it was coincidental, providing it was in a city with a high concentration of Asians; however, I seriously doubt that you’ll mistake the ass-end of Georgia, or most of Florida for that matter, for Chinatown or Koreatown in larger cities. When I moved down here, the neighbourhood where I owned my condo, just outside of D.C., was predominantly Japanese. It’s hard to miss, as all of the businesses, even Citibank, had most of their signs in Japanese, with English written very small underneath. I’ve yet to see any place like that down here.)

I double-checked. Six out of eight people killed were Asian, with a seventh Asian being wounded. That’s seven out of nine victims. In lily-white, deep red, Georgia, where segregation lives on, that ratio is high enough that they could say it constitutes hate crimes. I’m sorry, but I don’t buy the Sex Addict line. That’s someone fishing for an excuse. The crime scenes were far enough apart and from where he lived, I’m sorry, but he could’ve picked off a shit ton of prostitutes instead of making that drive to hit three spas.

Again, what does it even matter? It’s Georgia. You know that dude will end up on death row. He did in one night what Aileen Wuornos couldn’t do in her entire career as a serial killer. She was stopped after seven.

Once you hit Serial Killer numbers, not even OJ’s Dream Team could get that guy off.

      obvious race-baiting

Excluding the person, (Asian), who lived, that was still 75%, or six out of eight murdered that were Asian. Include the one who survived and you’re at 78%. If that was Chinatown, it would make some sense, but it fails when you pull the murders away from Asian neighbourhoods. The prosecution won’t have any trouble with this one.

(Kinda like looking through a crowd for your sister-wives. Not a difficult task if you’re in West by-God Virginia, but move it to Manhattan, and the sister-wives tend to thin out a great deal. 😎)

He killed as many people as he could in the one place

Oh, and if wasn’t one place. It was at three separate spas. Again, if you see in the news, these are places with Blacked-out Windows, so it’s not like they have girls trying to get people inside. (Unlike other parts of Atlanta, where prostitutes roam wild and plentiful, like Buffalo on the plains. If he wanted a higher body count, what with being a perv and all, he could’ve taken out a lot more peeps had he gone for hookers.)

      FBI Statistics:

      https://ucr.fbi.gov/hate-crime/2019/topic-pages/victims

48.5 percent were victims of crimes motivated by offenders’ anti-Black or African American bias.
15.7 percent were victims of anti-White bias.
14.1 percent were victims of anti-Hispanic or Latino bias.
4.4 percent were victims of anti-Asian bias.
3.5 percent were victims of bias against a group of individuals in which more than one race was represented (anti-multiple races, group).
2.7 percent were victims of anti-American Indian or Alaska Native bias.
2.6 percent were victims of anti-Arab bias.
0.5 percent (26 individuals) were victims of anti-Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander bias.
8.0 percent were victims of anti-Other Race/Ethnicity/Ancestry bias.

I really don’t think that “AAPI” are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to hate crimes.

This passage, bolded, makes light of the fact that all but one of the victims were Asian by diluting it to “some”

One of your fellow liberals claimed the crazy dude was white supremacist. I’m not making light of anything. I’m calling out the race-baiting for what it is.

I do think people are playing the race hate card here just because they can, and not because it is applicable – as things stand.

      Good grief.

People jumped to the conclusion it was a hate crime against Asians precisely because the news has been covering the increase in real hate crimes against Asians. Simple association.

As usual, you turn that into something nefarious … those damn liberals!

Most people are NOT hyper political nut bags who think every conservative is evil, every liberal a loon. People just associate an event – that they spend all of 30 seconds reviewing because they are busy with their lives – with another thing that is present in their life, reporting on the actual increase in crimes against Asian Americans.

It’s just like the “white supremacist” claim. The guy looks like the “white supremacists” people see in the news snd it’s Georgia, so people assume “white supremacist” using that phrase in the broadest possible sense, almost like shorthand or slang.

      Crazy thing about this thread

It now has Trumpers claiming that people reach conclusions based on things they see/hear in the media snd that the media pushes a narrative.

Those same Trumpers seem to think that the 80 million follower POTUS and cocoon media pushing “ChynaVirus” and “KungFlu” is of no consequence? The increase in hate crimes against Asian American is an illusion?

      Lol. Wow.

Whitey? Did you get a look at that guy? I’m not certain if he’s brain-damaged or if he’s proof that Neanderthals didn’t script go extinct. They just holed up in a swamp somewhere having kids with their daughter-wives.

It makes me wonder if defence counsel is going to use the “too stupid to stand trial” method of attempting to get his client off. 😎

Except for the fact that you quoted statistics from pre-COVID 2019. The current coverage and media attention is that crimes against Asians have increased at an insane rate, post-blunder on the QOP screwing up on handling the virus.

A number of people have covered the increase in violence since the apocalypse. All those statistics do is prove that the reporting is accurate, as the 2019 number was quite low.

You can take the stereotype of massage parlors being rub-and-tugs and the stereotype of Asians working in massage parlors and do the math.

Well, generally, if a place advertises Korean Massage, I think most people would assume Asians worked there. Also, the one that fell for the stereotype was the shooter, considering he hit the spas and didn’t think to open fire in the red-light district. I’m not yes one that was shooting up massage parlours. He was the one choosing his targets.

To answer your question, Biggs, its possible because there are racist assholes living in our large cities. Lots of them. Even in Tampa Bay you find a lot of them right there in or near the city. We all wish they would go away and die quietly, but they don’t. I sure wish we could claim that our cities were free from racist assholes, but unfortunately they are allowed to be there. It sure sucks though. But on the other hand, if they couldn’t live there then even more racists would be wandering around the countryside like zombies. That wouldn’t be good either.

What should we do with our racist assholes, Biggs?

Do you mean like the way forty-three states are “seeing race” in the shit ton of voter suppression laws currently being considered?

Georgia makes it a misdemeanour to provide water to people standing in line to violate, plus no early voting on Sundays, should those bills get through.

Yeah, no racial motivation there. I guess it’s also a coincidence that this all occurred after the Voting Rights Act has been watered down to the point that it radically restores Jim Crow in the Confederacy.

The cousin- fuckers lost that war. Do they want a do-over? Doubtful, as they’re Drop fighting the one that ended 150 years ago.

I’m just glad that my family, on both sides, were still in Europe when they tried that war the first time.

      This thread is Bizarro World

Biggs suggesting now that it’s liberals who only see things as “race” ….once lamented that undocumented Hispanic workers were driving down his prices ..as opposed the the WHITE GCs hiring them.

Biggs says above that voter suppression is a “useful idiot talking point.” GOP officials have openly stated the opposite, but that’s what you get when you discuss race with a poster who once hilariously claimed the VRA didn’t address polling stations …. and then avoided the thread evermore when the VRA’s polling station language was quoted.

The Bizarro World of the Cove. Nearly a complete disconnect from reality. And every error unaddressed …other then by a blur of petty name calling

Naturally, I never said “I don’t see race.” I, and the vast majority of people, simply don’t give a shit. I don’t dislike smarmy, virtue signaling white liberal snowflakes because of their skin color, I dislike them for their inability to apply logic and critical thinking to the most basic of concepts.

Creating strawmen is the only way you can get the upper hand in any debate, so I see why it’s so appealing for you to do so, Mr. Mayor.

      Just coincidence

“ In Philadelphia, reports to the city of anti-Asian American hate tripled between 2019 and 2020. People in its Asian communities are shaken and traumatized, constantly on edge, worried they or a loved one could be the next person assaulted or killed while walking on the street or riding the subway or doing their job. Some of the city’s 120,000 Asian residents, particularly those of East and Southeast Asian descent, say they are avoiding taking public transportation, walking alone, or going out at night.”

I’m not sure how you can see someone’s skin color signature verification and the like.

C’mon, you’re smarter than that. These measures are all predominantly aimed at minorities. No food or drinks given to people standing in a line? Would that be the fifteen minutes that people usually have to wait here, or more likely aimed at minority communities, where waits can take multiple hours? Sunday voting suppression stops churches from taking voters to polls on Sundays. My understanding is that these events primarily occur in computer communities.

I could go on, but why? These laws are all aimed at voter suppression. Lord Trump said exactly that just the other day, on Hate TV.

It’s a shame you and your people still aren’t over there, you elitist asshat.

No me would love to leave this shithole country than I would. Maybe you can write to the State Department and get me deported. Trust me, it doesn’t work.

(And then go quickly to ER for a brain scan because you might have suffered some sort of head injury?)

The premise of the thread – called Chynna Virus, btw – is “Trumps words have consequences” something people like you have disclaimed many times. In fact, you downplayed all the Trump words at the Michigan governor and then when there was a plot to kidnap her backpedaled to “it wasn’t successful”

Weird that you of all people would miss the actual premise lol

First post. Read very first post. “Chynna” is a play on Trump’s pronunciation
