Shipped one over 370 yards…CARRY…during his practice round today. Says he wants to hit 200mph ball speed in a tourney.
His stock yardages with everything in his bag this year is insane.
I mean, if he can dial in his wedges and short irons, he’s going to win a major this year.

Am I right that he’s an example of someone who puts a heavy emphasis on strength training as a way to overpower courses?
If so, is this the way of the future as opposed to say the shot shaping, iron play putter, like Spieth?

But, he’s more or less admitted that this is simply an experiment. If you follow him, you’ll know he’s a math whiz and takes that approach to the game.
But, as you’ve seen with the first 2 tourneys since restarting, the courses didn’t allow it.
So, he’ll have to be able to switch gears.

This wasn’t on the tv where I was but I see he’s 4 or 5 strokes back, I think?
Any comment on how the bombing strategy worked? I took a quick look for his Safire card and it’s pretty vanilla, not big numbers no eagles?

He’s currently in 5th place at 5 strokes back.
The three leaders shot 61, 61, and 63 respectively.
So, Bryson will have to shoot 62 or better IMO to have a chance, as I think weather overnight softened the course.
From what I saw, he had some big issues with distance control with his wedges and short irons.

So, just generally speaking, isn’t this fairly common:

In other words, so of the swing attributes that add distance (eg flatter founder swing, high swing speed) are also at odds with traditionally good short play (eg steeper, cut style swing)
Not sure that was his issue but maybe?

Interesting discussion about whether a PGA professional can succeed with the math/science approach because it leads to disappointment with a good survival round. They are referencing how he was angry with his 65 because of its deviation from the stats.

He’s certainly a “one-off” regarding his approach to the game.
He’s actually referred to himself as a “casino” or the “house” in a recent interview. Citing his heavy play schedule, and factoring how many under-par rounds he squeezes in throughout mass play equating to house odds…blah, blah, blah.
Honestly, I think his short iron/wedge problems are more a product of lack of playing time with them after a drastic weight/strength gain-swing change.
Should be something he could get cleaned up within a month.

What a PHENOMENAL final round today!
First, give credit to Wolff. That kid is going to win a lot and rack up a few majors. To think, he’s only 21-years-old.
Bryson brought it all week. The wedge he stuffed on 18 was just an example of what he’s really capable of if he can dial them in.
He averaged 350.4 yards off the tee this week.
350.4 freaking yards!
His birdie on the Par-5 #17th was driver and an 8-iron from 218. 8-iron. Albeit, all of his irons are 5-iron length shafts. But, insane nonetheless.
The scary thing is…he can still get better.

I didn’t get a chance to see the scores yesterday before I turned it on. When I did turn it on he was pulling a 300+ yard drive into the trees. He had to hit a run up shot from the rough that he left about 30-40 feet.
I said to myself, “see this is why this cannot work . . he could’ve just hit a shorter drive in the fairway and then stick a nine iron closer than that.”
As soon as I had that thought, they flashed the leader board. He was -21 and in the lead. LOL

That’s the crazy thing though. He’s pretty accurate considering how insanely long he’s hitting and how hard he’s going after every tee shot.
He’s taken this week off, but it’s still a really good field.
Would like to see Wolff bounce back with a good outing this week.

He has some work to do on his irons, short game, and putting (as evidenced by his rankings); but there’s no doubt that the talent is there.
