I cannot imagine Peters did not suffer a pretty hard-core concussion. Even though he scored on the pick six he was basically knocked out cold and his teammates were holding him up “Weekend at Bernies” style.

I love this ^^^ so very much!

It was a solid hit but hope Peters will be okay. These players are not just pieces on a chess board.

Yea I was shocked he stayed in the game.. Godwin lit up their other CB Talib on that second TD. Their DBs are gonna be sore tomorrow.

Why? The announcers were talking about a possible helmet to helmet as well. Peters was a runner. None of that applies. Shouldn’t be any fines coming D Smith’s way.

It doesn’t matter if he’s a prick or not. Would you have that same energy if a Bucs player got hit helmet to helmet like that?

I like many just want football to have less head injuries. Both guys can get concussed on those type of hits. Just hit below the chin and above the knee.

The verbal cut of your jib strikes me as sensitive, social justice warrior, victim. It’s football, not patty-cake…I wasn’t cheering the concussion, I was cheering the velocity and viciousness of the strike.

No dipshit, it’s just widely known by now that using your head to tackle is DUMB. Period. Just look at Ryan Shazier and countless others.

You’re clearly the one who’s sensitive because you can’t handle the truth. Again if it was a Bucs player you’d being singing a different tune. FACTS. Congrats, you played yourself.

Looks more like Smith hit him in the head using his shoulder. Smith never gave up on the play. He could have made the hit that dislodged the football out of the end zone for a touchback.

That clip doesn’t show the slow mo replay. It was helmet to helmet. The broadcasters were even looking for a flag but the officials missed it.

That was a football play at the goal line.  He was inches from keeping him out of the endzone.  I can’t see that being a fine.

I told my twelve year old, “that’s why if you’re a db and you see a 320 pound guy barreling straight at you you either run the other direction or get the hell down.  No matter how those two bodies made contact it was always going to be ugly.

Lol yeah, that hit was CRAZY. I liked the hit, but players gotta stop the helmet the helmet stuff. If there’s one thing that can bring down the NFL and the game itself its the head injuries.

These players get more and more lethally built with training year round with sports science, so the collisions are harder than ever before.

It appears Don’s helmet goes over the top of Peters helmet, and he catches Peters with his shoulder or chest.

The initial collision that knocked his head back was due to Smith’s helmet. Then the shoulder follows through to Peter’s head. The jolt knocked his head back then the shoulder was there to make contact.

Look at it frame by frame by pausing the video in different spots. You can clearly see his head take 2 separate impacts. First by Smith’s helmet then Smith’s shoulder. Peter’s head literally gets smacked twice which tells you everything.

For me, at least, “dirty” implies a measure of intent.  I’ll get it if the league decides to fine Smith, but I also assume that Smith doesn’t spent a whole lot of time working on his tackling form.  I appreciate the effort and intensity.

People tend to lose the fact that football players are human beings not pixels in a video game.

Regardless of the legality of the hit, it was dangerous and could have been physically devastating to Peters.

      It’s a game not warfare.

You believe there is no contact in women’s football/soccer? I’ve seen some very serious injuries during my playing days. Some were head injuries. You might want to choose another sport as an example like bowling or golf. Thank you.

The helmets hit, no doubt about that. But you’re talking about a man that’s about 6’7 lowering a shoulder, which in a turn lowers his head do to being top heavy while running, hitting a guy that’s probably around 6’0 at a side angle. Smith arrives just in front of Peters and Peters head turns due to being tackled from the side just before. It’s a bang-bang play and physics just played it’s part. No intent to hurt the guy, probably just trying to knock the ball loose before he crossed the goal line. Playing at a high rate of speed leaves little room for error but some people tend to forget these guys aren’t the same size and a large man can only get so low when running into a guy much smaller.

Nice to see D Smith giving it his all.  Glad also that Peters isn’t permanently damaged.

Not to totally hijack this thread, but as it concerns helmet hits and the “leading with the helmet” issue we have these days…Why are ball carriers allowed to lead with their helmet if noone else is?  I guess there is not a lot else you can do when your hands are around the ball, but it always strikes me that the runner is almost always lowering the head to initiate contact.

Like on the Josh Allen hit late in the Pats game he lowered his head first but the call was always going to happen especially with him being a QB

I thought it was a great hit. He clearly lowered his arm and lead with the shoulder. The helmet contact was incidental.

Something lost in the AB controversy was AB had a helmet designed but the league wouldnt approve it.

I’ve been saying since the helmet to helmet controversy started they need to do a helmet re-design. A simple gel lining rather than foam could prevent alot of injuries.
