      1. I will assume last week was Lovie shaking off the rust of play calling and being caught off guard with that style of offense.  Defensive calls were a lot better today.  Bucs played a lot of m2m just like last week but they were contesting the receivers at the line this time which was a welcomed adjustment.  2.  Bucs seem to be featuring a rotation of defensive backs depending on down and distance utilizing Conte, Moore, Jennings, Tandy, etc.  This week they had Jennings shadowing Cooks.  3. Bucs defenders actually were hitting their gaps and were around the ball.  Still, the run defense can be better with someone stepping up to fill the holes.  Lavonte needs to clean up and avoid the trash as the WILL in this defense has to "flow" and make plays on the ball carrier.  Alexander is still learning to avoid the trash, but he looks stout at the point of attack.  Tackling has to improve still.4. Koetter called a good game, and actually utilized a lot of two tight end sets taking a page out of Wisenhunt's approach.  It helped given the Bucs OTs are not playing at a high level at the moment.  With that said Donovan Smith has impressed me so far, and maybe he is cut out to be a LT in the pros?  5. Not only did Martin run with purpose, but Sims showed some power and grinding which surprised me.  If these two can grind like that for yards after contact this will help the offense immensly.6. Special teams wasn't an embarasssment.  It helps that Rainey looks like a competent returner as well with his decision making but also willing to turn it upfield if need be.7.  J. Smith and company brought heat.  I see a lot of concern over G. Johnson but I think he is just getting used to being a three downs guy instead of a rotational player.  Fatinkun must be highly regarded by the coaching staff, and I assume when he returns he is the "third" DE.8. Winston has mechanics issues, which were apparent since the pre season game against the Bengals.  But these can be fixed.  He made five NFL level throws in this game that were tight windows.  Winston is masterful throwing down the seem and against zone defenses.  Where Winston struggles is when going to the sidelines as his long delivery is telegraphing to defenders.  If Koetter wants to call more screen games I would stick with WR's screens.  The slow developing HB screens seem to not work with Winston's slow delivery and lobs thus far. Winston also need to learn to climb the pocket, but that will come in due time.9. The offensive line wasn't playing poorly, but I can't praise them with all the penalties they had.  EDS wasn't bad while he was in there but it is not like he was missed when he went out.  10. It is good to see a team prepared to play football for a change.  Lets hope they continue to look NFL average from this point forward.

All great points. I loved how Winston avoided big mistakes for a lot of the game. He didn’t force anything and he left a lot of points on the field. I can’t help but feel like he energized the team today.

Good synopsis.I would add that...Not so sure D. Smith had a decent game, it's obvious he's still learning the position at the NFL level. Winston has a good touch on the ball today.  But is still had two bad, should have thrown it out of bounds moments.Martin didn't bounce out as much today - different from last week.  Would have liked to have seen a little more of that rather than gut plays.Cherilus was awful last week...  didn't pay much attention to him...

I was there, ticked off a lot of Saints fans too. I liked what I saw, except for the offensive strategy in the later part of the game. The defense stepped up in a big way today. That’s the quality of play you expect that veteran group to be bringing on a weekly basis.

The RB screens were money, literally everytime we were moving up field in getting big gains yesterday.

I’m hoping they are just bringing Evans along slowly due to his hammy.  He was non-existent yesterday.

Yeah Koetter knows how to call and run screens.  I think this is important for a patchwork o-line that is still trying to put it together.  In other news:  The Bucs defense is currently #8 overall in yards allowed per game, #7 pass defense, #19 run defense, #29 scoring defense, and tied for sixth place for # of sacks with four other teams.Good progress and hope they can improve.

My daughter textet me during the 4th quarter. They going to f$ck it up again.Bad memories from last season. So the defense kept them back and the offense were able to put up some points to keep the gap. A good win and a good week ahaid with positive feel for the texans.

The two DE’s were the players of the game.  For being so maligned they were tremendous all game long.Winston looked so much better in this game.  He is still really shaky but you have to give him credit.  That throw to VJax at the end of the half was spectacular.  We haven't had a Buc QB capable of that throw since maybe Vinny.  Still way too many penalties, but the coaching was excellent.  The game plan was good and the players kept their composure even when the Saints looked like they were going to come back. The specialist were excellent.  Just goes to show why you don't pay a punter big money when you can pull they guys at will.

I was happy to see the Bucs score a TD right before halftime and then take the opening kickoff of the second half and score another TD…can’t remember last time that happened

I was really hoping on one of those late fourth quarter drives where they were trying to kill the clock, they would play-action pass on first down. It seemed like that was prime for a big, back-breaking play.

Nice post alldaway. And it really feels good to find positives in so many areas. It’s obvious there is room for improvement but it’s just as obvious this team, the youngest in the NFL, IS improving.

I was hoping for the dagger play as well but the coaches were most likely right. Run the ball, kill the clock, and go home with the win.As Winston gets more experience I expect they'll take off the reigns and let him win games in the 4th quarter.
