Gerald McCoy cuts a deal with Lovie Smith to play offenseFOX SportsSep 24, 2015 gmc_zpso0dwseem.jpgKim Klement / USA TODAY SportsDefensive tackle Gerald McCoy is a man of many talents. Apparently, he wants to add "offensive playmaker" as one of those talents. According to JoeBucsFan.com, McCoy has been lobbying to head coach Lovie Smith to give him a chance on the offensive side of the ball.Fortunately for McCoy, Smith is open to the idea. The star DT did tell WDAE-AM 620 that his head coach is making him hit a pretty lofty goal before he gets the chance to catch touchdowns.“I’ve been lobbying to play offense since I got in the NFL, before, you know, J.J. Watt even showed up,” McCoy told JoeBucsFan.com. “Lovie told me I have to get 15 sacks before I can play offense. So I said, ‘Done deal.’“And then he was like, ‘Well, honestly, Gerald, if you get 15 sacks, we’ll let you do anything you want.’ So that’s my goal.”When your head coach tells a player that he'll let him "do anything" if he gets 15 sacks, you better believe that the player is going to be all-out. Should we expect a four-sack performance this week by McCoy? Well, maybe we shouldn't go that far just yet, but he has plenty of motivation to get to the quarterback, as if he didn't already.

Its a deal with the devil, lovie. Dont do it!Sure, he'll get you 15 sacks, but then he's just gonna make everyone dye their hair funny colors and watch countless hours of the little mermaid.I mean, WHO is really "winning" here?

The real question is "WHO is really "losing" here?". If he gets 15 sacks that should contribute to wins so that benefits everyone. If he gets 15 sacks but we're still below 500 what does it matter?

15 sacks from a DT is big time balling and a major boost to this defense–I’ll co-sign on that deal.

If McCoy managed to pull of a 15 sack season, I'd hold a freaking Little Mermaid *marathon*. ;D

it could happen if there was a 30 game season. I just hope he can make 30 tackles this year. I know he is disruptive but he needs to make more plays. Averaging 1/2 a sack and less than 2 tackles a game doesn't cut it for his pay grade.

It's really common for sacks to come in bunches for lineman.  (And I don't think tackle totals are terribly meaningful.)  Trying to extrapolate his stats after two games is silly.  I see no reason to think he's suddenly going to regress to pre-2013 form this season for no apparent reason.

I was going off last year's stats so not so silly.

He only played 13 games last season.  That’s .65 sacks per game, not .5.  That’s actually a pretty big difference.  While it’d certainly be nice for him to spike to higher totals, 10.5 sacks (which is what that pro-rates out to) is a pretty reasonable season for an a-list DT.

It's a better stay than if we included his entire career

I tried some crab dipping sauce the other day, and it was awesome. I'm bringing that.
