Curious on your thoughts since you dislike her but this seems to be common ground? Yes?

I agree but her motives are completely different than mine. She just realizes that MMT isn’t going to convince people that we don’t have to actually pay for things if we “need” them bad enough. She knows if she wants all her pork she’s going to have to cut other things. So I agree that we spend way more than we should or need to on defense. We don’t need to police the entire world.

Bernie says the same things. They are still both terrible.

Even if she does truly believe that we need a smaller military footprint throughout the world she’s still arguing her case with a Socialist mindset attacking the corporations. Even when it is a legitimate gripe it irks me coming from her because that’s just the low hanging corporate fruit. It’s companies making “profits” while people don’t have shoes and don’t have food to eat in America that’s really driving her.

Going back one more time to the Bernie Sanders deodorant comments when he was running for President.

These two are peas in a pod.

not really. very similar motives, just different end games. You’re both on the north on Buggsy’s political compass, you at 10 degrees, she’s at 350. She wants the state to control the world the way she thinks is best, you want one person to do it (Trump).

I think her motives are just fine. Stop policing the world, giving defense contracts to your buddies, put that money back into the budget or America.

      Seems pretty simple to me

Great the reject got put in a padded room again. Or whatever the heck he keeps doing to his account. I hope this means we won’t see him for a month so the grownups can have a conversation for once.

I’m not asking for much here Fire just acknowledge that if you’re attacking the industrial military complex from the standpoint that it’s evil then I’m fine with that but if you’re doing it to hasten the demise of capitalism to usher in the Socialist Utopia then might I be allowed to have a problem with it?

I hate the military industrial complex.

      I hate the world policing.

My friend was deployed in Afghanistan and at the end of the fiscal year they too millions or even billions in missiles, can’t remember the exact number he said… took them to the desert and blew them up and buried them so they could get a bigger budget the following year.

      So fucking stupid

I could definitely get on board with getting away from baseline budgeting.

The test will be when someone proposes a smaller than expected increase in the budget of one of her “pets”. Will she say the same thing? Or will she start shouting about throwing granny over a cliff and killing children?

She is 100% correct in some of her points.

The problem is the people only play by the rules the Congress lay out for them and insist they adhere to. For the record it’s not so much budget increases that account for the spike, it’s to avoid a budget cut. The rules for the military is that if they don’t spend all their budget, the budget is cut by that amount the next year. Good managers hold an emergency war chest so as to speak, then at the end of the year spend it so they don’t lose it. There is no prize for good house keeping.

Plus some of what she says shows a degree of ignorance. And I mean that from a lack of knowledge perspective. Some of the cold war “relics” are the B-52 and A-10 Warhog which are still the best at what they do no matter the age.

There is an element of keeping skills warm. For example there is only 1 tank manufacturing plant in the US. Even with exports there isn’t sufficient requirements to keep the place open all the time for new tanks. So the Army has a rolling upgrade/maintenance program so the plant remains open. Otherwise you get into a state like the UK where they have no armored vehicle manufacturing ability any more.

Military stuff is really expensive. The problem is there is no accountability when someone screws things up and huge amounts of money is poured down the drain. Much of it is down to the Generals because they all want the next shiny toy on the hill. Google how the Bradley was made, and the Bradley is actually quite a good piece of kit.

I cannot stand that process for budgeting.

This is why people get pissed about their taxes… it could be any branch of government. Blank check spending and beaurecratic procedures to determine budgeting with the fox guarding the hen house.

As someone that is fiscally conservative (less than some on this board but more than a social liberal) I agree when people blast extending unemployment, or creating a bloated infrastructure bill with little bullshit resource allocation sprinkled in…

And I think much of this comes from dark money / unlimited campaign contributions for all politicians left or right.
