      https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/trump-impeachment-lee-raskin-hole-case-jonathan-turley

The House has elected to try this case of incitement of insurrection largely on circumstantial evidence and using media reports rather than witness testimony. It is trial by innuendo and implication rather than direct evidence of what former President Donald Trump knew and intended on Jan. 6.

Heard this the other day and recognized this point right away. They used a media report from the day after that said was unsourced and said what Mike Lee thought was said. This happened a day after in another report Mike Lee mentioned the phone call but did not say what was said.

So we’re about to hear a whole lot of whining from Fire about how the Republican shit show is destroying democracy by not taking an insurrection seriously and a whole lot of crickets about the fact that Democrats are not conducting this in a professional way. The only reason they are doing it is for public consumption period.

This is not an ordinary trial where technicalities matter. A senator is not going to say “Well I was going to vote guilty but that one little technicality…. oh well I guess I have to acquit.”

Look, The jury are politicians who are asked to be jurors. Guess what. It turns out they are acting like politicians. Shocking! This is a trial for the American people to see and judge for themselves what they think about Donald Trump. But at least they get to see the evidence, and any senator who votes to acquit him will have to live with that decision.

And finally, why are you acting like a defense lawyer, JBear? We all know what Trump did. Why are you trying to get him off on a technicality?

Jbear there is an easy distinction to make right now.

You’re either on the right side of history, and vote to impeach Trump. That makes you country-first, regardless of political beliefs. This is good.

Or you’re a pathetic chicken-shit weasel that puts Trump above the law, and you deserve to be mocked FOREVER for being on the wrong side of history.

Fuck Mike Lee and fuck any of these sniveling cowards that are fighting for the votes of the lowest common denominator.

Pick your side, jbear. It is fairly easy.

Gees Fire. I can see that losing Alice really is affecting you. You’ve given up even the tiniest effort to feign objectivity.

There’s not much to read here and I don’t want to put words into your mouth but let me know if I’m reading this right:

Fire – Impeach Trump and you’re a good guy.

Fire – Don’t impeach Trump and you’re a bad guy.

It really is that easy for you isn’t it? I guess you’ve never heard of blowback? Or you like seeing Trump on the headlines day after day durring Joe Biden’s administration? Maybe it’s cover so nobody has time to note all the executive actions? I don’t care if they impeach Trump but I recognize that the vindictive, partisan and nasty effort to discredit Trump is purely political. Even Democrats who love lockdowns and throwing old people in death factories to unburden society, recognize that Trump’s speech was protected free speech. There is long standing precedent for this and thank God for that or else Democrats would have already rounded up thousands for the Gulag.

I can’t believe that I have to say this again but you don’t want to hear it so I will reiterate one more time. What Trump did was wrong. Trump sucks. He’s no longer President. Time to move on.

One more thing. Now that Trump isn’t President any more why don’t Democrats just try to prosecute him criminally? It seems obvious that considering what a despicable human being he is it should be really easy for some left leaning prosecutor to find something to charge him with right?

Just a few months ago you or Alice could have rattled off a two page list of offenses that Trump should be hanged for. Why not try again for obstruction of justice?

A simple question… Why is it so important that Democrats impeach Trump instead of prosecuting him criminally?

    • Roy

JBear, political parties don’t do criminal prosecutions.. That is up to the courts. And Trump will get his turn there. But criminal charges or even convictions don’t disqualify someone from running for President. As long as you are a natural born citizen, 35 years old and 14 years of residency you are eligible. Trump will run again if he is not impeached. You can bet the farm on that.

But we Democrats are just spectators from here on out. The Democrats did their part. They spearheaded the impeachment and held the trial for the American people, even though they knew it wasn’t going to result in a conviction. Now the Democrats are done and its the Republicans who have to figure out how they are going to move forward. Good luck sorting it out, Republicans.

JBear, people like Turley make these type of specious argument as advocates because they know people who don’t understand will parrot them.

      1. Direct … direct evidence of what Trump knew (intent) would come from who?…. wait for it … Trump. They asked him to testify. He declined

      2. Trump’s words are in the record. Repeatedly. The entire case is Trump’s words in video and tweets

      3. Intent is almost always proven through circumstantial evidence because faced with prosecution people lie about their intent. So, Trump would claim he didn’t intend any of this but have to reconcile that with his tweets such as the post riot “this it what happens” tweet

      4. The defense case is up today, right? Defense Witnesses? Look forward to your complaint BECAUSE by mutual agreement they debate witnesses tomorrow, right? So, it’s the DEFENSE who is going to argue for witnesses and it’s the GOP who will support witnesses… even though Graham spent a week threatening everyone of witnesses were called?

(This stupidity posted by you is proof of your trolling (hopefully) because the alternative is …. well…)

Trump defense lawyers must be confused

“ Breaking News: Donald Trump’s lawyers intend to argue his statements prior to the riot were protected free speech. “

There’s no direct testimony per JBear

Hahaha. JBear, the defense didn’t have witnesses s d not even peep from you?

Now the Senate just approved witness because a GOP Congresswoman contradict the lie offered by Trump’s defense (ie that he didn’t know Pence’s status).

Bwahaha. Trumps own lawyers walked him right into it.

If this insurrection wasn’t so awful, this would be the most entertaining clown show ever because the GOP was always going to acquit him for political survival but now they are compounding their misery by acquitting after people get to see how awful he was

      Pathetic…

Jbear, he needs to be impeached.

He should not receive any of the benefits of being a former president, nor should he be given intelligence briefings etc.

He cannot be trusted. He has to be impeached. It is the right thing to do. He got people killed.

It is a simple binary choice. You aren’t being canceled. This is right vs wrong

It is right versus wrong or perhaps right versus wrong versus politics.

It’s absolutely a pathetic self-fulfilling prophecy. People vote for Trump because they believe the government is corrupt, with politicians looking out for their own interests over the interest of voters. Four years later – Trump’s fascism and lunacy is “on trial” by … wait for it … the people’s government acting as corrupt jurors for personal political gain … thereby proving the very point that led to Trumps election to begin with.

It is truly a bonfire of the vanities. The government destroying itself from within because it is completely corrupt and devoid of basic ethics.

I mean, think about it. Trump is “on trial” for orchestrating an insurrection. The GOP will vote to acquit him of that charge even though:

      a) the rioters themselves say they were acting on Trump’s orders and

      b) the GOP itself directly called Trump and Trump alone to stop the siege. Christie, now McCarthy and dozens of other GOP directly appealed to Trump to stop it because only he could lol

The best (worst) part is the GOP will argue it’s unconstitutional because Trump is out of office BUT MCConnell refused the trial when in office and noe the defense is offered that the impeachment is flawed because it was rushed, now witnesses … only to have the Dems respond with “okay LETS HAVE WITNESSES”

Bwahaha. The GOP is a rudderless ship that threatens to take down the entire marina

Fox is guarding the hen house.

Think about the precedent this sets?

Get a super majority and you are untouchable… sounds like a dictatorship in the making for a future president.

We are going to throw out objectivity and ride party lines.

The GOP then uses that argument against the argument (fascism – call your enemy that which you are)… so we can call any impeachment a “political hit job”.

It also sets precedent that any president can do whatever they want on the way out…

      More danger there…

And here is what REALLY pisses me off about jbear as his big fat phony “concerns” with socialism. He thinks something like a Green New Deal will lead to government control, dictators, etc… IT IS HAPPENING BEFORE OUR EYES!

This is the pathway to an authoritarian regime on the left or right. Calling this politics just because politics are ubiquitous… doesn’t mean that the impeachment is a scam.

Think about the long-term implications for our Republic. Think about the long-term implications for the Republicans party… they are bowing down to the lowest common denominator and that voting block.

The voting block that stormed the capitol, killed police officers, tried to kill politician, caused millions of damage, and are now considered domestic terrorists.

Great, gotta get that voting block! Gotta represents those constituents!

      Genuis! Long live the Republic!

These attorneys took the defense for the big stage … and now they are getting crushed as completely incompetent because they are defending a lie (the reason the original defense team quit, most likely )

I think this spurt of activity is hilarious. You two sure are excited. How many times do you have to be wrong to realize that it happened? Anyway, I am also interested to see what will happen. If Democrats are going to rely on actual testimony instead of fabricated media reports and twitter posts, I think that’s a good thing.
