Although McCoy can’t handle 15-20 touches a game at this point in his career, I’d love him out of the backfield and getting 8-10 explossive touches with the GOAT. He’s quoted wanting to play 2 more years…convenient!

He’s lost everything that made him special. No thanks.

Still has some wiggle and hands. As our #2/3 he’d be profoundly serviceable.

How’s is pass protection? He just doesn’t seem like a grinder to me.

Wouldn’t Christian McCaffrey be an awesome addition? He’s on his last year of his contract…Carolina is rebuilding…I wonder if he’s an option? Oh, to dream!

Everything about bringing in a FA RB smells of piss poor management.

We need a RB with full tread on his tires, to pair with Jones, so we can improve our ground game and take pressure off of the oldest starting QB in the league.

      Totally disagree, McCoy’s done.

I see no downside into bringing in McCoy pending on cost. He’s a player where I believe that getting a 15% snap share, he could have 7 to 10 very productive carries and/or touches as a reliable situational pass catcher out of the backfield. If he’s willing to take something like a 2 yr/$2.5M deal, then I’m all in favor.

Are you basing that off of his 4.60 yards per carry average last year?

Boom! Stoked to have a 4 to 8 touch a game back-up RB with some speed, wiggle and hands.

      3rd down specialist, perhaps?

I don’t see knocking this signing if it’s a vet minimum. Our running back room is young. If we bring in a vet cb I think it would be met with praise. Our two youngest position groups are rb and cb.

I don’t really see a downside to this. He can still run, he can catch the ball out the back field, and he can pass protect. And his contract is super cheap.

In 2019 McCoy got 465 yards rushing averaging 4.6 yards. KC had a potent offense so they couldn’t key on McCoy. In 2018 McCoy got 514 yards but only averaged 3.2 for the Bills. But in both years he was effective in the passing game. He got 34 catches for a 7.0 avg. for the Bills and 28 catches for a 6.5 yard average for KC. So its the versatility that will be useful. He had two fumbles in 272 carries the last two years. If he can contribute 6 carries a game for 500 yards and 25 receptions which is less than two per game and don’t fumble that will be all they want from McCoy.

My only question is… can we still sign our rookies?

I’m guessing this removes Dare’s touches. Dare is not a horrible player but he’s not a threat as a runner, only in the pass game which allows the D to play certain coverages when he’s in.

Shady can catch and is a decent pass blocker. I’m guessing snap % is spread like this:

      Rojo 50%
      Vaughn 35%
      McCoy 15%

Would still prefer if we free up some cash for some vet pass rush depth soon. I think it will happen when none of Khazin, Bell, Divinity secure their spot in camp.

I would rather have had the Bucs sign Devonte Freeman. Much younger. But Devonte is still probably asking too much to sign. With COVID-19, he will get signed later to a team in need for better money than the Bucs could afford.

Apparently McCoy signed for the veteran minimum, so it shouldn’t impact the cap too much. Freeman was asking for more than the Bucs were able to offer.

Would rather load the roster with UDFA’s trying to put on for their family than sign a 32 year old who’s made $62M

I’d rather have a guy who I know will be productive than a person off the street who the HC won’t trust or play.

Good depth signing, if Rojo or Vaughn goes down we would have been in deep trouble IMO. McCoy is an experienced veteran in a non-existent offseason with a new QB. Experience is a good thing.

McCoy will thrive as a role player here. He has the best hands out of the RB group right now and has played in big games before. I like the move

Should see 8-10 touches a game

If McCoy is playing over the 3 RBs we just drafted 2018-2020 then WTF are we doing.

Obviously, this is a completely different argument – and one I don’t disagree with.

Since you’ve shifted arguments, I’ll assume you’re acquiescing that McCoy is a better option for the immediate future than some scrubs off of the street.

He’s better than Dare. I don’t see how that joker is even on the team still. Dude sucks.

Vaughn, Calais, and Ware all on the COVID list. That explains this signing.

Blame the scouting department/GM then if they’re drafting guys that shouldn’t be playing

Ogunbowale wasn’t drafted. He’s just a guy, who probably may not have even been on the team this year if the COVID situation didn’t happen. Vaughn is a rookie who’s not really going to have much of a camp, plus is currently on the COVID list. I fully expect McCoy to be the 2nd most productive/active RB on this roster… this year. I expect that neither Ogunbowale or McCoy will be on the roster in 2021.
