MCConnell just objected to $2000 by unanimous consent because he’s got a “poison pill” ready. He’s going to link the aid to other legislation.

Yup… he’s the epitome over everything wrong with our politicians.

And the shitbrains in Kentucky voted for him AGAIN.

      Should I claim election fraud?

Wonder how many people that voted for him won’t because of what he’s doing right now.

You nailed it right there. It’s Kentucky.

McConnell should be violently clubbed by Canadian Seal Hunters, out of work due to COVID. Trumpis just a moron that needs to be the permanent center of attention. McConnell is evil incarnate.

I’d rather have a beer bottle in front of me than a pre-frontal lobotomy.

      McConnell is evil incarnate.

      absolutely true

yesterday, he refused to put the stand alone bill to a vote. One man blocking the will of the people.

The sad irony is that the voting pool of Kentucky elects an idiot like McConnell to save them from “socialism.” As such, they went a long while without Medicaid expansion, and now won’t get the $2,000, primarily because of McConnell, who only believes in Corporate Welfare. So, I guess “Socialism” is ok, should you sit on the board of a Fortune 500 company requiring a bailout.

I honestly think that, in order to vote, everyone should be required to pass a competency test, as well as one that shows you understand the basic premise of government. I will lay any odds that most of his base couldn’t pass the test given to emigrants, in order to qualify for citizenship.

When one person can withhold a vote on the floor of the House or Senate, regardless of party, then that system is in need of a re-boot. I honestly don’t know why anyone from outside of this country would want to live here.

I’d rather have a beer bottle in front of me than a pre-frontal lobotomy.

Very true. One person, yielding that much power is not a democracy, or a republic. It is an autocracy.

McConnell stays in power (despite very low approval ratings) because he built the entire political apparatus in the state and he brings in MILLIONS to a very poor state. That’s what he does actively to stay in power.

another very big factor is the leftward shift of Democrats

Kentucky (like WV) was a longtime Dems state WHEN the Dem party was PERCEIVED as the defender of unionized working class Americans. Now, the party is PERCEIVED as leftist. This is, in fact, the internal struggle going on in the Dem party right now

Of course there is no legitimate reason other than hating people and being evil for not thinking sending $2000 to everyone is a great idea.

Complete lack of objectivity as usual.

You’re disputing the WISDOM of THE GUY YOU VOTED FOR?

      weird

(I actually agree that the idea is stupid)

If I had the money I would have left this country a while ago. The US isn’t even a top 10 country to live in. This country is turning into one big shit hole.

Very true. Same here. I’m only an American due to my grandfather, uncles and father moving to D.C. as Embassy employees for the Canadian and British embassies. As such, I have dual citizenship, US and Canada. Once the borders are clear and the apocalypse subsides, I’m permanently relocating to Canada.

Ironically, my father wasn’ta Canadian citizen when he was born in 1936. This is because Canada want a country until 1949. As such, my father is a British citizen who picked up Canadian citizenship when Canada became a country.

I have no real ties to the YS other than my son and daughter, who were born here. My mother’s side is the family moved here from Ireland and Germany. All of my relatives are either in the EU, or Canada.

(The best years I’d my life was the first ten of the 2000s. Since I worked in UK television during that period, I was in the US very infrequently, and worked primarily in the YK, India, South Africa, Israel, Straits, and then to set up a broadcast network Hong Kong. My two films were shot, produced and released in the EU, and that’s about it. The rare times I was here was when we were doing a live broadcast from the D.C. studios, i.e. when I was on loan to CBN, working on Pat Robertson’s shows. (They had no D.C. studio, so we would lease them studio time, staff, and provide our satellite uplink feed. All of our broadcasts went terrestrial to RR Sat in Israel, where we had the main control room, tape library and uplink.)

Personally, my favourite place to work was Cape Town. I spent as much time there as possible.

It’s really not about gating people it being evil. It use about the vast majority of people here who have never had the need, which now rely on an inability to feed themselves, maintain a place to live, or being unable to find work through no fault if there own.

Direct stimulus to people who are in dire need is most likely to be immediately placed back into the economy, in order to buy the basic items needed to live. This also boasts the economy.

During the S&L and Automotive bailouts, those companies got tons of corporate welfare, which was used to give the highest up in the citrate chain large bonuses, and to use the other funds in corporate buy backs. So, the companies and their Boards got richer. That money did not go to keeping plants open, refusing workers, or placing money directly into the economy. All it did was bust the DJIA, yet the vast majority of people in this country does not trade in stocks or futures. The Market is the Last Vegas of Corporate America.

Back to when I was married, I would assist my ex’es uncle in tracking his Portfolio through Compuserv. When he was looking towards retirement he had $1M in his practice’s retirement fund. He took that million and purchased Berkshire Hathaway when it IPO’ed. Iirc, it IPO’ed at $900 per share. During the nineties it was selling for roughly $17,000 per share. Accordingly by to the latest day of trading, BRK-A now sells for $344,820 per share.
Now that he’s retired he spends most of his time in his twenty bedroom house on the Jersey Shore. I do not begrudge him for amassing that much through the markets, and my ex’es family was from Old Money. Regardless, I still couldn’t put up with living with my ex, despite the financial benefit. As such, I divorced.

The reason I bring this up is that there are very few people in this country who are in that position. This country is in Depression Era existence for a very large number of people. Small Businesses, which the Republicans tout as the “backbone” of the US are going to fail at record numbers, and this economy is going to be miserable for a lot of people for a very long time.

It toook a World War to assist in bringing this country out of the Depression, so unless we decide to nuke Russia, (I would actually support global thermonuclear war), this country is going to be shut for a very long time.

I see nothing wrong with giving people who earn under $75,000 a payment of $2,000. It has bipartisan support, but is being held to by NcConnell. That much money won’t even cover most people’s rent. $600 would cover Zero people’s rent. (I’d love to see any US city that still has rent at $600.)

This country has been steadily going to shit since pre-Reagan, and it’s only going to get worse. Florida doesn’t even have an economy outside of tourism. It is a state of service workers, retirees, and people like me, who get paid to sit on their asses and write. This state is going to one if the last to pull out of the canonic tailspin unless they can start convincing people from other places to start vacationing again, and even then, that will just give jobs back to underpayed service workers who mostly earn less than $10 /hour. The last time I earned under $10 an hour, it was the 1970s.

So personally, I’m for nuking the shit out of Russia. If we’re going to destroy the planet, we may as well speed the process up a bit. (Hopefully, when Russia retaliates, McConnell will get a nuke up his ass.

The merits of $2k per person is could be debated.

But the issue, that jbear again doesn’t see, is that McConnell won’t bring anything to a vote. It would be different if he brought it to a vote and made his case and everyone voted and it was amended…

Instead ONE PERSON can be the “grim reaper”.

There seem to be a lot of people that feel their political beliefs are greater than our system of government and democratic process.

That is the freaking issue, not whether you think Hunter Biden did something or whether $2k is too much, or whether you hate a single-payer health care system.

We vote, they are elected, they represent us, and we live with results of our vote while influencing these politicians as best we can.

Or in other words, stop throwing the baby out with the bath water.
