Over on ProFootballFocus.com (click on the links for full info, such as their whacky scoring)…https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/06/17/qbs-in-focus-by-route/https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/06/17/qbs-in-focus-screens/...they've been doing some off-season looks at quarterbacks.  I've taken some info and put it in a table listing league numbers, best scorer, McCown and Glennon... for comparison.routetree4black.jpgNote: aThrow is the average depth of the pass.

McCown dominated last year throwing Go routes to his big WRs downfield.  Evans seems like a great fit for that as he gets up to speed learning the position as a pro.

Looks like he threw a consistent hitch route, too.

I see some stuff going on here.  Two QBs that were backups, a rookie and a journeyman.  One gets thrown into the middle of a playoff chase.  One gets thrown into an already wasted season.Trestman has trimmed the route tree, and prunes it a little more for McCown.  Glennon has the whole tree, except the WR screen.  Maybe they wanted to get a good eval on what he could do.There are some obvious areas where McCown can help Glennon.  But, I can't see going for a season without a crossing route, a corner route, or a post route.

Maybe Trestman tried simplifying things? Did he trim it with Cutler?

Yes.  I don't know if that had anything to do with the groin injury, tho'...

It could just be the system he runs. I wonder if Tedford will bring something similar?

If Tedford adds screen passes to keep the pass rush guessing, I’ll be happy.

I’m pretty sure there’s a rule against Tampa running screen plays.

We try to run screens. We just don’t know how and they get blown up every time.

Appreciate the effort CJ.I think it's harder to compare QBs with the numbers.  This is really an offense comparison - no?

Yeah, I used PFF's series on QB play... and PFF is far from my favorite source. It does take more than a QB to have a passing game, and there is an element of apples to oranges...very true.  You can look at the tendencies, but some of that may have to do with the receivers and line play.

isn’t a crossing route probably a big part of Tedford’s offense? same thing with WR screen?

It’s funny to me, because every time you look at glennon’s numbers, especially this route tree example, it shows how horribly conservative/stupid schiano and sully were in their in-game calls. And as far as tedford's system goes, and how mccown or glennon will play in it, I can only assume to take the college numbers, average them out, and then drop the numbers a tad (because nfl is a little tougher).Somewhere close to that number is what we should expect with either qb going into this season imo.
