Per mort: Bucs will give consideration to reaching back to past, bringing back a Rich McKay-Lovie Smith tag team

No issues with that.  Wouldn’t be the sexiest thing in the world, but you bring in a good OC with Lovie, whether it’s Chudzinski, or Kubiak, or Kyle Shanahan, and that could be a really strong staff.

NOOOOOoooooo!!!We need to look to the future rather than going to the past.McKay almost crippled this team and Smith is not a good hire at HC based on his Bears time.1 playoff trip in his last 6 seasons and an awful offense his entire run, if we wanted a garbage offense and team that doesn't make the playoffs we should have just stuck with Schiano.Smith is the most over rated HC prospect out there IMO.

After Lovie’s first season, he didn’t have a season worse than 7-9, and that’s with guys like Rex Grossman as his QB for half his tenure.  It’s not sexy…but there aren’t a lot of sexy names out there that the Bucs can reasonably get.  They aren’t getting Bill O’Brien.  They aren’t getting David Shaw.

      Thoughts about Jay Gruden?

I would really love to get some fresh blood in here and not try to recreate the past. But I wouldn’t be too disappointed with it, just as long we get and experienced coach here.

Nobody is getting David Shaw…that point is muteThe Glazers need to hire a solid freakin GM...and NOT Scott Pioli...and then they need to hire Wisenhunt or Jay Gruden as the HCPLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not give the GM and HC job to one man!!!!

its sad when people are claiming 7-9 as a reason to be happy about a mediocre coach that rode bad qbs like kyle orton and rex.

This team needs to win, it’s not always about the “sexy pick”Lovie Smith was a beast of a coach who is well respected and was a consistent winner, ok, you can knock him on his OC problems but their were reports of him studying the game more on offense for his next go around, I would be all for Lovie coming to Tampa, we need a guy like him, lets go!

I think the issue is, aside from hiring a college coach with a winning record, you will be hard pressed to find an available coach without some short-comings.  In other words, there are reasons that coaches are fired and become available.

my displeasure with this is… rich mckay is the reason our cap figure got screwed,  or at least was the gm in charge when the contracts were pushed out and the inevitable salary cap hell had to be paid. and lovie is dungy all over again. We’ve lived this, why go back to “oh so close”?

get me jay gruden or adam geese (spelling is off I know) from denver, and lets do something better then “we almost made it”

Stokes as GM ...and then maybe lure O'Brien?  Greg Roman? Bevell?Seeing as they went so hard after Chip (then having to obviously SETTLE with Schiano) I'd bet they really want an offensive minded (exciting) guy...

Lol **CENSORED** no to these guys.I highly doubt Lovie is going to take a DC coordinator position. Stop these coaching dream teams guys

Lovie works, you will watch his OC hired carefully. I’d love for the Browns staff to get terminated and bring Norv in here. He is a guy that should appeal to a guy like Lovie.McKay don't have the hate for him some do. The cap blew up because we had actual talented people on the roster at one point and it is hard to pay guys.

8 hc positions last year and he was offered 0 of them. im sure it was totally because he took time away and not that he wasnt seen as a vaible candidate. he may have to take a dc position to get himself back.

Lets just hope that regardless of who, that the Glazers don’t lose out on top to good options for GM/HC by taking two months to decide on a guy.

This is a real problem given our previous decision making disorders.

Chip Carter on the local FOX Sports station says the Glaziers may bring back Tony Dungy…………..      as the GM. With Lovie at HC.     I'd be REALLY worried about the offense with them running the show...

wish the glazer boys would hire someone to oversee those type of choices, since they appear to be very focused on European futbol.

Yes. Between taking too long or rushing it, I think I’d rather they rush it.

This isn't rocket science and they should have had a list since mid-season when we were 0-8. If they didn't then they are worse than we thought.

On NFL Network, their “expert panel” suggested that when you remove the GM, then you already have a plan thats been set in motion.Hopefully that is the case. And hopefully its not a stupid plan.

Just imagine if Joel and Bryan get on their knees and we get Dungy as GM and Gruden back as HC….I’d buy season tickets on the spot.
