Are the Bucs targeting Texas A&M WR Mike Evans? Would the team draft Aggies QB Johnny Manziel? Why did Lovie Smith move on from troubled WR Mike Williams? Why can the Bucs focus on drafting the best player available in the first round? Get the answers to these questions and more in this edition of SR’s Fab 5.https://www.pewterreport.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=9735:&Itemid=15

“Those same apologists are likely lamenting the fact that the fact that Tampa Bay “only” got a sixth-round pick in return, and that general manager Jason Licht got hosed by the Bills. Nothing could be further from the truth. Williams was only worth a sixth-round pick. That’s the truth. If he was worth more Licht would have gotten more.”He was only worth a 6th right now. But that's after being in the news for the wrong reasons and coming off an injury riddled, non productive year. If he stayed out of trouble and had another season like he had 2010-2012 (910 yards, 8 TDs) then he would have been worth significantly more after the season. For a $1.8M cap number I think the Bucs should have rolled the dice that he would have bolstered his trade value.

You're speculating. You have no idea what he would have done this season. The fact that we got something for him is good.

It’s not too far fetched to think the Bucs could have gotten more for Williams if he rebounded in 2014, but you have to understand that football people put in 50 and 60 hours per week trying to implement their plans for winning and some of them just can’t stand the idea of having someone they hate around for those 50-60 hours per week every week. They would just rather them be gone so they can fully concentrate on the future and not be reminded of the past. It's like getting divorced. You could probably save some money living with your soon-to-be ex-wife as you finalize your divorce, but it would really suck. It's worth money and resources to just be done with it.

...or he is a dumba$$ who gets suspended, fined and benched by the organization and his trade value becomes zero.

Dude hasn't played a down in the NFL. McCown is worried about a damn thing when it comes Manziel.

No. Forgiveness and Grace rented apartments from Lovie when he was in Chicago.

Williams’ release has been a long time coming, and Smith and Licht are simply following their established protocol of only cutting a player once they have acquired that player’s replacement.I'm good with the trade but who have they acquired to replace MW?

Unfortunately that wouldn've have happened. He had a $6.8 million cap hit next year.  Even at his best teams wouldn't trade for that amount for a solid no. 2 WR.

You never gave your opinion on this. Yes or no?

“….Drafting Jackson also gives Tampa Bay another big, talented receiver with speed. Evans ran a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and that’s a respectable time given his massive frame….”. Proof reading seems to be a thing of the past...unless we're talking about drafting a reveiver named "Jackson" I'm unaware of.

You guys do understand that mccown has had largely a average to poor career, right?

Says who?He only got three different opportunities. Two of those teams totally sucked and the one shot he got with a good supporting cast he looked great. He hasn't even had enough opportunity to be considered average to poor. But go ahead and throw out his recent accomplishments and focus on his "career stats".

Yeah, it was everyone else and everything else that caused him to be average in all but one season. Ok.
