Evan Mathis set to visit Seattle SeahawksBy Gregg Rosenthal    NFL.comPublished:  Aug. 21, 2015 at 10:11 p.m.    mathis_zpshbnkvgex.jpegThe market for free-agent guard Evan Mathis has been slow to develop, something he might not have expected back when the Philadelphia Eagles released him in June. It appears we finally have some movement on him choosing a team. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Mathis will go through with his scheduled visit to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, according to a source informed of the player's plans. The potential trip was on standby while Mathis waited to find out if he could reach an agreement with another team before getting on the plane. Rapoport said that is unlikely to happen.Perhaps the trip will spur on a team like the Miami Dolphins or New York Jets to pony up, but Mathis has had a difficult time finding a contract worth signing this offseason. We've previously read reports that he's "close" to a deal, but they have turned out to by hollow threats to spur action by moderately interested teams.  The two-time Pro Bowler asked for his release from the Eagles, according to coach Chip Kelly. He was set to make $5.5 million in Philadelphia, and reportedly had an offer on the table that would have given him a $1 million raise. Mathis chose not to take that contract, and the Eagles eventually got tired of the drama and let Mathis go. While Mathis has had plenty of interest this offseason, this is the first official visit he will take. It's certainly a great fit for both sides. Seattle's interior offensive line could desperately use help, and Mathis could chase a title with the Seahawks. Even if he has to take a pay cut to do so.

I don’t think we are interested, you would be taking playing time away from Ali. I was in favor of the signing awhile back, but now that Ali seems to be emerging, pass on Mathis.

Mathis would be amazing depth, but it’s not happening. I don’t think he leaves Seattle.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. If playoffs are important to him. But they wont overpay him, they have enough cap probs as it is.

Supposedly the titans have an interest, and can better pay him than seattle. They’ve been shuffling players at LG, and ain’t happy with Levitre…

Nick04_15_12_1_t.jpgI was always interested in.........(but too lazy to do it)........... a compilation stat over the last decade or two......that shows a comparative "boom or Bust" analogy, in reference to top FA O Linemen.Sure there have been some good/great moves........but on the surface many other deals ended up being cash-out busts where the FA really never was as good as/healthy as/lucky as when he was with his original team.

one-year deal with the Broncos…Mathis’ new contract is worth up to $4 million if he reaches playing time bonuses included in the agreement. (base value of Mathis’ deal is $2.5 million)

And before the usual suspects start trashing the FO for not signing him, it was reported he had an offer from someone for 5.5 Mill and took less to be with team he thought had better chance to win it all…

He wasnt coming here. It might as well have been manning all over again. The bucs are seen as a plague, a virus, an albatross, a blight on the nfl. Other than money, tampa has very little barganing prowess or ability to posture. Players know better, like we do, that certain teams are to be avoided. Cleveland, oakland, buffalo, and tampa is one of them as well.Winning is important to everyone who isnt in it for the money. No one should ever forget that.We have lost, a lot, and the league as well as everyone else, sees it. Mathis is getting paid handsomely, AND has a chance at a ring. A Free Agents wet dream.

      Michael Bennett disagrees.
