From the chat, Scott, I saw that you felt either Bobby Rainey or Mike James would be the odd man out…personally I’d throw Demps in there as a possibility. With all that both of them did in the time they had, it’s hard to believe one of them would not be on the team this year. Given that both seem to be quality backs and the time that Rainey had especially to show what he could do, would it not be wise for Tampa to shop them for a possible fourth or fifth round pick especially if they have a sense of which way they will go? Something is better than nothing…or I am just not remembering them correctly, as I thought they were pretty good.
Currently the team is operating from a huge strength from a personnel standpoint when discussing the running back position: With teams keeping less fullbacks and some teams not carrying any – it would not surprise me to see the team keep Martin, Sims, Rainey, James and Demps with James being the hybrid fullback / running back – until the offense is unveiled not sure how one would be able to fully anticipate if Tedford likes to use fullbacks, which ultimately would go a long way in deciding who and how many will be kept.
