Tampa Bay quarterback Brian Griese, who missed Wednesday’s workout with a foot injury, took some reps during Thursday’s practice but is still listed as questionable for Sunday’s game in Arizona.
“Yes, he is (questionable),” Bucs head coach Jon Gruden said of Griese. “He took a few [snaps] and hopefully he does a little more tomorrow. Nothing’s really changed.”
BUCS MAKE PRACTICE SQUAD MOVES:
The Buccaneers signed guard Joe Iorio to their eight-man practice squad Thursday.
Iorio entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts in 2003 and has played on both their active roster and practice squad. He was released from the Colts’ 53-man roster on Dec. 23.
In order to make room for Iorio on their practice squad, the Bucs released defensive back Kalvin Pearson.
SEVERAL BUCS ATTEND WHITE’S FUNERAL:
The Bucs sent several people — linebacker Derrick Brooks, left tackle Derrick Deese, wide receiver Tim Brown and personnel executive Doug Williams — to Charlotte Thursday to represent the team at Reggie White’s funeral.
White, 43, died Sunday from what was believed to be a respiratory disease combined with other health problems. However, a final cause of death might not be determined for a few months.
While he was glad that several Bucs got to attend White’s funeral, head coach Jon Gruden, who worked with White in Green Bay in the early 1990s, wishes he could have attended as well.
“I would have liked to have been there,” Gruden said. “It’s too bad they didn’t shut down everybody’s buildings to go to that funeral. He was that kind of guy. He’s going to be sorely missed. He was always up and had a smile on his face. It just goes to show you that nobody’s invincible. My prayers are with Sara White and his family, and he will be sorely missed, that’s for sure. We’re glad that Derrick Brooks, Doug Williams, Derrick Deese and Tim Brown were able to go. They were very close to him and it was appropriate that they were able to attend.”
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Bucs head coach Jon Gruden on whether he’ll be up at midnight on Friday night:
“Yes. I don’t know what time zone, but I’ll be ringing in the new year. This one wasn’t particularly good for me. I’ll make some New Year’s resolutions and go from there.”
