Bucs second-year linebacker Geno Hayes found himself on the defensive Saturday when his 19-year-old girlfriend reportedly attacked him with a pair of scissors and a kitchen knife.
According to reports in both the Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Times, Sheyelle Bagley faces an aggravated battery charge after she allegedly grazed Hayes’ head with scissors and stabbed him in the neck with a knife during an argument.
Although they weren’t considered serious, those wounds were enough to send Hayes, 21, to a Tampa Bay area hospital, where he was treated and discharged a few hours later.
Hayes originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick out of Florida State. He was a special teams standout before suffering a season-ending knee injury during the 2008 season. Hayes is expected to compete for a starting job on Tampa Bay’s defense in 2009.
