The Bucs need a new general manager and Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff told PewterReport.com on Monday he thinks Lionel Vital would be the ideal candidate.
The Bucs search for a new general manager is heating up according to recent reports and one of the candidates, Falcons director of player personnel Lionel Vital, is set for a second interview with the team.

On Monday, at the East-West Shrine West team's practice, Vital’s boss gave a glowing recommendation to PewterReport.com. Falcons’ general manager Thomas Dimitroff thinks Vital is the right man for the job.

“Look I have said this categorically – I believe Lionel is one of the best pure talent evaluators in the league and has been around some of the best team builders with Ozzie Newsome, Bill Belichick, Scott Pioli, Haley and humbly, has been around our system in Atlanta where he has a really good understanding of putting team together from a scouting standpoint,” Dimitroff said. “(He’s a) great people person in the way of his dealing with the building, they really respect him and respect his approach. Good man with a really good understanding of leadership qualities. My feeling is he and Lovie would have a really nice personality mix. Congruent and beneficial to the organization.”

Giants vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross, Redskins director of pro personnel Morocco Brown, and Titans V.P. of player personnel Lake Dawson have also met with the Buccaneers about the vacant general manager position according to reports.

Dimitroff was also very complimentary of the Bucs decision to hire Lovie Smith as their head coach.

“Obviously Lovie (Smith) is an outstanding football coach and he’s going to be obviously a very good thing for this organization and it is going to add that much more toughness for us in the (NFC South) division, having someone like Lovie coaching in the division.”

And while some wonder about the overall talent on the Bucs roster, don’t count Dimitroff as one of those.

“They are good football team and have a lot of talent throughout their whole team in all of the different areas,” Dimitroff said. “I mean they are a good football team, no doubt about it. Mark (Dominik) did a heck of a job putting together a football team and whoever does come in as the general manager with Lovie is going to be in a really good spot I believe.”

Here's a "simple" philosophy for you Tampadeuce; "Trust But Verify". That's all any of us less gullible fans are saying. I'm sure the Glazer boys are doing much more research than relying on the opinion of a single person who may have his own agenda.

I agree with Scubog, 76bucsfan46 and JackinJersey. It reminds me of when Ron Rivera said Schiano he was doing a great job and "stay the course". I don't think we won another game after he said that. I'm not saying we shouldn't hire this guy, I just don't think we should be listening to any glowing recommendations from Dimitroff. His team sucks too BTW and I truly believe the Falcons missed their Super Bowl window with the retirement of T. Gonzalez.

You simple minded, paranoid Bucs fan. This could also be Dimitroff's way of saying "take this guy before he takes my job!" Not to mention, why endorse a guy that knows all YOUR players better than his own family tree? Glass half full people.

I agree can we trust a gm in our division ,probably not.

Can we really trust anything a division rival has to say?

Per Alex Marvez, FoxSports1, three finalist will have 2nd interviews on Tuesday. Vital, Lake Dawson, and Marc Ross. Marvez believes that Vital has the edge. We will probably have a GM by Wednesday!
