Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is reportedly in town to meet with the Buccaneers and interview for their head coaching vacancy. Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is also set to interview with Tampa Bay.

While reports came out over the weekend the Buccaneers were preparing a list for second interviews with prospective coaches they had already met with, it appears there are still some first interviews to take place.

Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is reported to be set to interview today and the Buccaneers have requested and were granted permission to interview Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski.

Zimmer was with the Cowboys, Falcons and has been in charge of the Bengals defense since 2008. Chudzinski, formerly with the Browns and Chargers, just completed his first season as offensive coordinator for the Panthers and took the league's worst offense in 2010 to the NFL’s seventh ranked offense in 2011.

Tampa Bay has already met with Mike Sherman, Jerry Gray, Brad Childress and Marty Schottenheimer and was scheduled to meet with Houston defensive coordinator Wade Phillips last Friday, but Phillips took himself out of the running late Thursday night.

Another name that may surface is Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. The Giants defense has been on fire as of late limiting the Falcons and the Packers to just 22 total points in two playoff games. The earliest the Bucs would be able to speak to Fewell would be after next week’s championship games.

No matter what coaching combo we bring in, in the end of the day it will be up to the GLosers to step up and spend some money to increase the quality of this roster. We may not get blown out by 40 each game and lose 12 agonizing times next year with a better coaching staff. But what they can truly do with a suspect, young, inexperienced roster? 6-10? 7-9? Its only part of the solution...

There is no such thing as the NEW NFL! Then Giants, And 49ers proved that. We need good defence, With a good pounding the football up the gut......MARTY BALL... with a good disiplinary this team will be fine.

Looks like many of you like this Zimmer guy. For a while I thought you were going to be like Mikey on the Life cereal commercial who didn't like anything. The question for me is; is he too much like Rod Marinelli who failed as a head coach?

Marty and Zimmer are, BY FAR, the 2 best choices. I believe all the other candidates have issues. These are the two Bucs Best Bets for coach. I only hope we don't take too long and lose both of them to other teams. I think it boils down to who can get the best staff together and Marty has proven to be able to build a staff in the past. GO BUCS ! ! !

Like I been preaching about the new head coach Mike Zimmer would be a great chioce. Remember the game of football is faster and the games are so up tempo that some of the old school coaches may have been in the past. Lets the individuals make the decisions to bring thecorrect personnel in for once, I don't care if its two to three more weeks. Remember the GM does have the scouts to rely on the college talent until the coaching staff is in place. The difference between this year and last. Tampa will have a full off season and a full summer training camp to be ready for 2012. Remember we have the pick #5. and boy do I like the 2012 clas draft. Go Bucs

Seems I can't get excited about any of these. Doesn't really matter.....I'm not hiring so.........................wait and see is me.

seat26, FYI. That is Brian Schottenheimer, not Marty. Brian is his son.

Here's another vote for Zimmer. Make this happen.

L oooooose the purse strings baby! We need a real coach this time!

I don't like the Glazers that much kingbucc34 but your statement is a little over the top. The Glazers aren't being cheap if they are interviewing the guy and showing interest but if Mike Zimmerman wants to go somewhere else like Miami that is not the Glazers fault and you shouldn't punish them or the bucs for that and you should always support your team and go to the games if you can no matter how bad it looks.

This guy is not the answer. And believe me @ 58% strong in the polls I think most of the fans are behind Marty Ball. Marty is our salvation....lol MARTY MARTY MARTY

Word is that Fisher has accepted the HC job at St Louis and Schottenheimer is going to be his OC. Bucs need to keep the coaches that they are interested in close by or they are going to be the last player in musical chairs.

BUC FANS,THIS IS THE MAN......NO BS, NO FOOLING AROUND. A TUFF HARD NOSE COACH WITH LOTS OF EXPERIENCE I KNOW THER HAD BEEB A LOT OF SUPPORT FOR MARTY. HE HAS BEEN A GOOD HEAD COACH IN THE PAST, BUT HE HAS NOT COACHED IN THE NFL IN SOME TIME NOW. I FEEL THAT IF HE IS SO VALUABLE NOW AT 68 WHY ISN'T HE COACHING ? ZIMMER NOW, OR HE WILL BE GONE SOON !!!!

Right on surferdude we need gilbride to interview

The Giants always play good D, that's Coughlin, notice their play didn't drop off when Spagnola left. The coach that should get an interview is Kevin Gilbright their O.C., he's done a great job with Manning, and has been calling some real good games leading up to, and including the playoffs.

We waited too long on Zimmer.. Miami may beat us to the point..

    Please sign Zimmer today!!!!!

Zimmer has done so much for a Cincinnati Defense with very little to work with. Our defense has alot of potential. Two 1st and 2nd round picks on the defensive line. Zimmer is the guy this team needs. We need to bring in some good coordinators so Zimmer can focus on being the head coach. ZIMMER PLEASE!

Sorry bfarbs But Im going to diagree without end. Bengles defense has not showed me much but poor tackling and big runs. I would not bet the farm on this guy. The best guy (IN my opinion) Is Marty S. he is a in your face guy that will make you put up or shut up. And I like that about him.
  • avatar

AC Service, Marty has not coached for awhile and he does not get along with Owners; that's the reason why I believe he's not coaching. What is your thinking on this?
  • avatar

I guess the 7th ranked overall DEF doesnt impress you? Arian Foster carved up the Ravens yesterday, does that make them a porous defense also? Zimmer is a no nonsense guy and has been a top level coordinator for many years. He has experience and is very disciplined.

This IS the guy! Go get him!! Glazers and Dominik, "you also need to SELL him on why he should come to Tampa"! Press reports have him listed as front runner for Miami Dolphins job. We have a QB to build. They dont. Hardest thing to find. Go get him boys!!
