Bucs great Ronde Barber won't be on the field when the Buccaneers run out of the tunnel in August for the first time since 1997, but also won't be too far away. The fan favorite will be looking down from the broadcast booth for three of Tampa Bay's four preseason games this season it was announced Wednesday.
Ronde Barber said goodbye to the Buccaneers back in May when he announced his retirement after 16 seasons with Tampa Bay, but the fan favorite won’t be far away when the Buccaneers kick off the preseason with a home contest against the Baltimore Ravens.
WFLA announced that Barber will team up with Chris Myers in the broadcast booth for Tampa Bay’s preseason games. News Channel 8 will produce and broadcast three games this August, at home against the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, August 8 at 7:30 p.m.; at Miami on Saturday, August 24, at 7:30 p.m.; and at home versus the Washington Redskins on Thursday, August 29 at 7:30 p.m.
Barber announced his retirement earlier this month and hinted of what could possibly be forthcoming at a news conference held at One Buc Place back on May 9.
“I'm not ready to say what I'm doing or where I'm going,” Barber said. “But yes, I'll be somewhere. Me and my manager have had a plan for a lot of years, met with guys in the offseason for the past three or four years. You've seen my mug on TV. I enjoy doing it.”
