PewterReport.com has learned the details of Jeremy Zuttah’s contract. Zuttah signed a four-year deal worth up to a little over $3 million that includes a $714,000 signing bonus.
Zuttah, the Bucs’ third-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft out of Rutgers, is scheduled to earn base salaries of $295,000 in 2008, $385,000 in 2009, $470,000 in 2010 and $555,000 in 2011. All of those base salaries are league-minimum numbers.
Zuttah does have an escalator in the fourth year of his deal that could push his base salary in 2011 from $555,000 to $900,000 if he plays in 35 percent of the snaps in any of the preceding three years.
The fourth year of Zuttah’s deal could escalate up to approximately $1.2 million if the offensive lineman plays in 50 percent of the snaps in two out of the first three years and the Bucs meet some specific team goals related to sacks allowed, points scored and total offense.
“The Bucs organization has been very fair and professional all the way through on this contract and in the end both sides achieved the goal of doing right by Jeremy,” said Noel LaMontagne, Zuttah’s agent at Eastern Athletic Services.
The 6-foot-4, 303-pound offensive lineman is coming off a fine offseason and is expected to be cross-trained at center, guard and tackle during his first NFL training camp. The athletic Zuttah played multiple positions at Rutgers and that versatility is what attracted the Bucs to him and made him Tampa Bay’s pick in the third round.
Zuttah will be providing Pewter Insider subscribers on PewterReport.com with an exclusive training camp diary, beginning Saturday, July 26. Zuttah will share his thoughts with Bucs fans three times per week during training camp.
