Bucs wide receiver Vincent Jackson still practices and plays with the same fire of a rookie trying to make the team, so it is hard to sometimes remember he is a 10-year veteran of the NFL. But before Jackson arrived as a free agent in 2012, he spent seven seasons in San Diego, including a rookie year catching passes from current Saints star Drew Brees.
In Thursday’s open locker room session Jackson talked about his one year with Brees.
“Again, everything you hear about Drew Brees is right on. It’s all accurate. He’s a consummate pro and a true leader of that team and organization. What he was able to do with that shoulder injury in San Diego, and becoming he face of the franchise (Saints) with him and Sean Payton able to turn around that organization, and really the entire city, what they had been through (Hurricane) is pretty amazing.
“He’s just a great person and a great human being. He works really hard. I remember being a rookie, he used to line me up on different places on the field, close his eyes, take drops and try to hit me. He’s just one of those guys who never wants the ball to hit the ground. He’s going to be competitive, take shots and take risks. He’s a great competitor. I’m looking forward to it.”
