Just Grillin sponsors PewterReport.com’s Pewter Player of the Week, which is given to Tampa Bay’s MVP as selected by the PewterReport.com staff every Tuesday following the most recent game.
Tampa Bay built a 20-3 lead at Atlanta only to see the Falcons rally and tie the game at 20-20 at the end of regulation. A field goal and a defensive stand helped the Bucs beat the Falcons, 23-20, in overtime to improve to 2-1 in the division. Tampa Bay’s defense recorded four takeaways, including two from rookie middle linebacker Kwon Alexander, who turned in the best performance of his young NFL career.
For his efforts, Alexander is this week’s Just Grillin Pewter Player of the Week.
Playing with a broken heart over the murder of his 17-year old brother, Broderick Taylor, on Friday night in Anniston, Alabama, Alexander recorded two of the Bucs’ four takeaways. The first came in the first quarter as he tracked down Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones after a 35-yard catch and stripped him of the ball in mid-stride. Alexander returned the fumble 20 yards to the Atlanta 21 and helped set up a 38-yard field goal by Connor Barth, which tied the game at 3-3.
In the second quarter, Alexander stepped in front of tight end Jacob Tamme and picked off Matt Ryan, which helped set up another field goal. Alexander actually had a first quarter interception in the end zone that he returned 90 yards to the Atlanta 10-yard line negated by an offside penalty on defensive end Jacquies Smith.
Alexander finished with a career-best and game-high 11 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He is Tampa Bay’s second-leading tackler with 49 stops and is leads the team with seven pass breakups and two interceptions, in addition to a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Because he’s this week’s Just Grillin Pewter Player of the Week, Alexander will receive a certificate $50 gift certificate to Just Grillin in Carrollwood.

I am still marveling at the take away he executed against Jones. Should be a nominee for NFL play of the year.
Kwon Alexander and Ali Marpet are beginning to earn Jason Licht the name “Draft Guru”. With the next draft approaching, I can see the licht! Add two players in our secondary with this kind of production and we could hurt some people!
Your right labucfan but unfortunately its been pretty much ignored by the NFL Network and ESPN.
Just a couple of weeks ago the Falcons were the darlings of the media when they were undefeated.
Winston, Smith, Marpet, Alexander… The beginning of something special.
