Just Grillin sponsors PewterReport.com’s Pewter Player of the Week, which is given to Tampa Bay’s MVP as selected by the PewterReport.com staff every Tuesday following the most recent game.

Tampa Bay rebounded from a 37-23 loss at the hands of the Carolina Panthers with a 38-31 triumph over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Buccaneers scored a season-high 38 points and got two field goals from Connor Barth, six sacks from its defense and no turnovers from rookie quarterback Jameis Winston. But it was the play of running back Doug Martin, who scored three touchdowns, that was the difference in snapping Tampa Bay’s 11-game losing streak at Raymond James Stadium that dated back to 2013.

Just Grillin squareFor his efforts, Martin is this week’s Just Grillin Pewter Player of the Week.

Martin had 123 yards on 24 carries (5.1 avg.) and two touchdowns, and added another score on a 10-yard touchdown catch. The former first-round pick had three catches for 35 yards. Martin rushed for 100 yards for a second consecutive week, and it marked the ninth time he’s done that in Tampa Bay, which tied for the third-most in team history.

He became only the second player in team history to rush for two scores and have a receiving touchdown in a game. Bucs running back Bobby Rainey did it against Atlanta on November 17, 2013.

Martin, who ripped off a season-long 39-yard run against Jacksonville, joins legendary Tampa Bay fullback Mike Alstott as the only players in team history to have multiple games with three touchdowns or more. He now has 17 rushing touchdowns in his Tampa Bay career, which ranks seventh in team history. Martin needs just one more to tie Warrick Dunn (1997-2001, 2008) for sixth place.

Because he’s this week’s Just Grillin Pewter Player of the Week, Martin will receive a certificate $50 gift certificate to Just Grillin in Carrollwood.

Doug Martin gets my Just Grinnin’ Pewter Player of the Week Award. Watch minute 3:15 of Film Session as Doug jukes #22 CB Aaron Colvin out of his shoes. Dude got punked so bad, he even tried to stick out his leg and trip Dougie! I’m still grinnin’!

What impressed me even more about that run was the linebacker getting put on his ass with a stiff arm afterwards . Dougie is running with some real aggression. And that jump cut was just dirty.

What I love, is how people (analysts on ESPN and NFL network were writing this guy off a few weeks ago. He is officially the number 1 rated RB as per pro football focus and is number 2 in rushing yards. I’m happy we didn’t trade h away like most people wanted. He’s been on a mission this year. Slowly but surely I see improvements. Also McCoy is number 1 DT as far as sacks and third over all and Rainey is the number 2 returner in total yards. Seeing our team gel is a reason for happiness. We’ve already… Read more »

In fairness, I don’t think “most people” wanted to trade Martin. I think some people maybe wanted to, but quickly realized that he had no trade value anyway and we would get little in return. While it doesn’t matter, and nobody will believe me (unless somehow we can call back the archives of PR), I have kept my seat on the Dougernaut bandwagon for 4 years running – really glad to see him back in form.

Well I don’t know how fans felt about Martin last year on this site, but at another site I used to visit the consensus was he was washed up and never that good to begin with.
In fact one moron used to state that Martin only had one good game against a sub par Raiders team that he compared to a Div. II defense.
The intelligence level of the majority of that sites followers resembles a colony of ants.

There was a lot of less than favorable chatter on this site too as the PR gang and many of the posters often questioned why Bobby Rainey, who they declared was the better back, wasn’t starting ahead of #22. As is often the case, many who reside in Bucville are too quick to light the torches.
