Brian Poole from Bradenton Southeast High. As either our 4th safety or 5/6th corner. Has played safety and slot corner. Played pretty well in the slot last season for the Jets. Also has played extensively on special teams throughout his NFL career. Under 30 vet I’d love to steal on a cheap 2/3 year contract to come home.

Ian Rapoport said Joe’s knee was a concern leading into the draft. So guessing we knew about it. Cited toward the end of this article:

Personally, I’d much rather Tom Brady play until his wheels come 100% off. Then i’d like to give him one more year just to be sure it’s really over. I think Tom has proven it is objectively stupid to try to project his retirement for him. So rather than have a strapping young quarterback on the roster, I would have much rather use that pick on a player that would make Tom Brady more likely to want to play in 2023. I’d very much like to stop hearing about plans for after Tom Brady and go ahead and maximize whatever window I get out of Tom Brady. Having been a Buccaneers fan that suffered through well over a decade of miserably irrelevant football, I’m not as scared of going back to that as I am of thinking we took anything off of this window with him.

You’re going to have to source that because I haven’t seen any video of him questioning Trubisky’s first round value. The 48 min breakdown he did for Bleacher Report had him speculating on Mitch to the 49ers at 2. Because he saw him fitting how Shanahan wanted to run his offense (sound familiar?). Simms said he would take both Trubisky and Watson over Goff (from prior draft).

He’s only been putting out analysis/rankings for a few seasons now. The only prospect I’ve seen/heard him go into significant negative detail about is Justin Fields. So we will wait and see there. Do you have other examples of QB prospects he openly questioned, right or wrong?

Simms often takes a shotgun approach to his analysis. He will give significantly different and sometimes conflicting analysis in different venues. Or like the 2017 video of him I just watched. Where people give him credit for Mahomes. He said nice things about Pat as a prospect, but then clearly put him behind Trubisky and Watson. Said Watson was his 1 overall but if a team needed a guy to play right away, Mitch was the best choice. That Pat had a high ceiling but was very raw. So people pull a few quotes from that interview to make it sound like Simms was extremely high on Mahomes.

Simms is a hot take merchant, as evidenced by this ridiculous clickbait.

9th in QBR and passer rating as well. Additionally, 3rd in yards and TDs. 3rd in QB DVOA. 2nd highest graded QB for the season by PFF. 10th overall? Nothing statistically is 10th. Nothing analytically is 10th. But the clickbait is 10th. Because his “professional evaluation” takes non football factors into strong consideration.

How and when did Brady tweak the offense? What changed about it to go from suck to not suck?

I don’t think Byron being a good play caller would be absolutely indicative of his potential as HC anyway. I suspect we’re seeing some teams around the league struggle more than they should under good play callers in over their head running the whole show. Because the league trend is get a guy who can call his plays so at least you’ve always got a solid offense. I get more of a leadership presence vibe from Todd. Who seems to command respect from his players well beyond normal platitudes. I think I’d take either of our coordinates with the rest of BA’s staff over any college coach (or wholesale change) though. I think Bruce has started to foster a strong culture that could endure beyond him and Tom (hopefully several years from now).

This argument really doesn’t hold up logically. The Bucs took the 6th QB off the board. Only one draft in the last 20 had the 6th QB off the board sooner. 13 of the last 20 still had the 5th QB available at pick 64. So this needs to be an elite QB draft, or Trask misevaluated by the other QB needy teams.

Also, predicting talent in future drafts is pointless. Who would have told you this time last year that Wilson, Lance, or Jones would be top 16 picks? Who would have said Trask was a second rounder? Guys take big steps and/or come out of no where pretty much every class.

The way I look at it, my absolute worst case scenario is a “torn” Tom Brady retires after the 2022 season. For me as a fan, that’s worse than winning a game or two in 2023. Now I can’t get fired for winning a game or two in 2023. So my perspective as a fan is clearly much different than those making the decisions with yearly success being their only job security. I just don’t understand the motivation of so many of our fans to want to plan out Brady’s retirement. Or who seem so afraid of a bad season or two that they’d willingly diminish our Brady seasons in even the slightest ways.

Exactly, Brady coming back to play the 2023 season is not guaranteed. So my focus would be building a roster that makes him not want to hang it up in 2023. A roster that tempts him for yet another ring run. Again, I couldn’t care much less about what comes AFTER Tom Brady. In many ways, I think a couple down years to reset the cap and draft from closer to 1st would give us a better chance to rebound to the top quicker than rolling straight through with a super dynasty. I also think there’s just as good a chance to find quality QBing from the FA market after Brady than the draft. Or by trading for an aging vet on a team looking to reset. So I would have much rather used pick 64 on literally any other position. I think back up QB is going to be the least important factor when Tom is deciding whether to roll “one more time” in 2023. I want to give the Bucs the best chance of getting Tom back for as many “one more time” seasons as possible. That would be my only focus until Tom said: “It’s definitely over, dude.” At that point, I’d start looking at college QBs. As well as whether there are vet options/stop gaps. I think trying to plan around rolling right into the next “franchise QB” is the silly pipe dream that is objectively stupid trying to plan for. Trying to gauge multiple years of QB drafts into the future being right up there. Say “hi” Zach Wilson……
