plopes808 replied to the topic The Bucs had the NFL’s worst pass defense, so why do they have the same safeties in the forum The Red Board 2 weeks, 1 day ago
My guess would be that it’s because the passing game is usually effected by
1. Pass Rush
in that order.
We’ve clearly improved on #1 and seem to have improved #2 with our 2 second round CB’s. We added Whitehead and Igwebuike who both show the ability to compete, and Conte and Tandy aren’t as bad as people seem to think. So…[Read more]

My only concern is that I think we may have overdone the DL additions when some of that cap could’ve gone to addressing our new biggest weakness at SS. I’m still hoping we bring Reid in but not holding my breath.
I do understand though that we’ve swung and missed on D-Linemen in the past so we went for the quantity approach this year. I mean,…[Read more]
Paper champs 2 years running! lol
On a serious note, we trimmed the fat and addressed our 2 biggest weaknesses (DL and Secondary.) So yes, I expect to be better than last year. We play in the toughest division in the league so playoffs will always be tough to make, but we definitely seem to be on the right track.
It’s time to take that…[Read more]
plopes808 commented on the post, Silva: Bucs Winston’s 2017 Season Was Very Underrated 2 weeks, 1 day ago
It appeared to me that Winston’s decision making was much better after his injury. I believe watching Fitz play gave him a better understanding of “take what the defense gives you.” Also, at the beginning of the season, Winston hadn’t developed any chemistry with Godwin and Howard yet. Once he developed that, his options were wide open.
plopes808 commented on the post, Cover 3: Are Yards After Catch Mandatory For WR Evans In Bucs Offense? 2 weeks, 1 day ago
in 2016 the big knock on Mike was drops and he addressed that in 2017. Now it’s YAC, so I believe he will improve that in 2018. He is “that guy” that will take his weakness and work on it, so I expect to see improvement every year.
Winston is our risk taker, we can’t have Evans risking turnovers trying too hard for YAC as well. Again, there are…[Read more]

YAC isn’t Evans’ strength, but his strengths have resulted in very good production over the past 4 years. He was never and probably will never be a big YAC guy regardless, but I do think in 2017 he was worried more about drops which led to him going to the ground easily. He obviously doesn’t have a problem with contact evidenced by his sideline…[Read more]

Evans and Godwin outside with DJax in the slot, Howard or Brate at TE with Rojo in the backfield…pick your poison.
plopes808 commented on the post, Bucs DT McCoy and C Jensen “Getting Into It” At OTAs 2 weeks, 4 days ago
Great news! I’m loving all the stories of grittiness being a focus for the team now. It’s about damn time! Jensen is just the type of guy we need on our OL, the kind of fire we had from Mankins and Hawley. It takes a lot to get GMC riled up so Jensen is obviously doing something right. Or maybe GMC is finally adopting that mean streak many have…[Read more]
plopes808 commented on the post, SR’s Fab 5: Bucs Believe In Barber; Godwin On The Rise 2 weeks, 4 days ago
Rojo and Barber will be a great 1-2 punch for us in a committee. People are getting too tied up in the “starter” status but both will get their touches and should provide a nice jump in production over last year.
Godwin will be our #2 receiver at some point this season. He may not start there initially but he’s shown the ability to play there.…[Read more]
I like it!
it seems like they’re leaning toward a committee approach which I’m all for. Rojo and Barber compliment each others’ skill sets very well.
As blatantly obvious as it was that Barber was playing better last year, I like to think the staff gave Martin the benefit of the doubt simply because of his cap numbers. I really do hate to think our staff was that blind to what was happening on the field

So I guess there are 2 ways to look at this…either our secondary is improved, or our QBs are turnover prone…
I tend to think that playing a more aggressive style of coverage is the biggest factor. Not only does it make the defense better, but Jameis and co. are not used to seeing this kind of coverage in practice. I’m sure they’re used to…[Read more]

Never been to a professional game of any kind…one of the disadvantages to living in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where we have no pro teams. We used to have the Pro Bowl at least but even that’s gone now….
I should start a gofundme for flight and tickets to one of our west coast games this year lol

Another great mailbag! In regard to the FA question, I agree we should be targeting one of those safeties. On paper, it seems safety is our biggest hole at the moment and Reid especially would give us a reliable starter while Whitehead and Igwebuike (how the heck is that pronounced anyway?) develop.
We need another QB as I don’t feel Griffin…[Read more]
