Ha ha ha at Yahoo Sports. Gives us a C and doesn’t even mention OJ Howard. I think the draft, on paper, should be graded a B+
RootsCrew commented on the post, Cover 3: Licht vs. NFC South; Inside The Film, Bucs TE Howard 3 weeks, 1 day ago
Exactly. He’s not done anything egregious in the draft beside trading up for Berto. There is no Manziel or Barron or Gaines Adams in his first round picks. I think drafting Sims was overhauling his ability at the next level. If he could have stayed healthy, it wouldn’t be as bad. Feels like ASJ taught him a good lesson in managing his risks on…[Read more]

Excellent Cover 3, Trevor. God, are there really people debating the OJ pick? Insanity.
Anyway, the breakdown of each GM’s draft classes really made it easy to compare and think about the impact they’ve had on their teams. Looking objectively, I’d agree that Licht is just behind Dimitroff. I think 2014 is a bit of an asterisk as Lovie was so…[Read more]

I absolutely agree they addressed glaring needs at WR and TE. Great additions to the offense. But the Bucs basically had the same issues, ASJ out & VJax injured/WR depth, in 2015, but we could lean on the run game. The OL still needs to run block better and hopefully we’ll have some semblance of a run game this season and better balance.
Yeah, don’t think the draft was bad by any stretch. Love the first 3 picks. Not sure why you assumed the worst. Wish we would have swapped out Beckwith with a CB or RB, but whatever. Gambling on Doug and not grabbing a younger, cheaper replacement earlier in the draft is a risk. Hopefully McNichols is another Doug. The Pro Bowl version. We’ll see.
Thought it was pretty clear, but I’ll try to sharpen it up. I’m not being negative. Just expressing a concern. Gambling on Doug to have a good year is a risk. He’s had 2 good years. 3 bad/injury years. Chances are he’s the lead back come week 4. If he has another injury plagued year, we’re right back where we were last season. Quizz isn’t a lead…[Read more]
Sure. Doesn’t make it not true. Especially after we witnessed it basically derail last season and not really addressing it in the draft. Think we all can admit that it’s a gamble betting on Doug to have a good year.
For the second time in two years Licht is betting on Doug to be a Pro Bowl level player. Doug has two great years and three abysmal years. That’s just the facts. When he shows up to camp focused and engaged, he runs like a top 10 RB. I like what Doug brings to our run game. He helps the OL out with his vision and ability to make guys miss at the…[Read more]

Jones had the same surgeon that did Terrell Suggs achilles surgery. He was back in 6 months. According to a recent report from the Dr, Jones will be fully healed in 4-6 months. I don’t think we would need to redshirt him. Could be a steal.
Trevor, thanks for all these position breakdowns. Really good work. One question though. If Corn is too small for the outside, at 5’10, 183, why is Adoree more suited for it at 5’10, 186?
I’ll be really happy when we add some CB depth in this draft. There are some elite guys that are out of our range, but if we trade back, grabbing Adoree,…[Read more]
RootsCrew commented on the post, Pewter Report’s 2017 DT Draft Preview + Bucs’ Best Bets 1 month ago
As someone that wanted Rankins last season, I’d be fine with grabbing a DT this year. McCoy is getting up there and getting his replacement in now would hopefully make the transition away from our captain smoother. Especially given McCoy’s penchant for injuries and missing games. Depth, depth, depth.

So glad this is happening. I think Ali can really be great in that position. The fact that he is studying Alex Mack is encouraging. Mack is a good player and completely transformed the Falcons line. Solidifying the middle will make the OL a lot better.

This is such a pessimistic view of the team. Have some faith in them and the maturity of the leaders in the locker room. If the team can’t handle 6 weeks of cameras in training camp, they weren’t making the playoffs anyway. Can’t blame a week 9 loss on a TV show. It’s not like it’s A Season With, like on Showtime. You think the Raiders would fall…[Read more]

I think we’re okay enough as a team to go BPA, but like you, I won’t be okay with not taking a top WR. There are too many to not grab one. I’m with you, DJax was a great addition, but we need to grab his replacement this year & let him mature/be ready when Djax is done. I’d love a Williams type of WR. Grab a speedy/route guy next draft.
Yep. A TE is a must grab as well. We have no viable depth behind Brate. Njoku and a WR like Godwin, Zay, Henderson, Reynolds would be a good offensive haul. Firepower for the offense. Engram, Butt (pending knee check), & Roberts would also be good TE additions to the team.
Wide receiver is a must add this draft. There are so many scenarios that could happen in the 1st, but here is my take:
-If Williams, Davis, or Ross slip to 19, they are an immediate pick.
-If we go DE or RB or S at 19, then Zay, Godwin, Juju & Samuel in the 2nd make sense.
-If we go CB or RB or S in 2nd round, then Reynolds, Henderson, & Kupp…[Read more]
RootsCrew commented on the post, Pewter Report’s 2017 RBs Draft Preview + Bucs’ Best Bets 1 month, 1 week ago
My theory is that unless Cook or McCarffrey falls to #19, any RB we draft is going to be a younger replacement for Sims, who can’t stay healthy/on the field. I just have a feeling Doug is going to be part of the team next year. They’ll restructure his deal & it’ll be a 3 headed RB committee. In that scenario, most likely won’t draft a RB until the…[Read more]

Good catch. Had a brain fart remembering the roster.
GMC gets a lot of flack (some deserved) from fans. Sapp was a one of a kind HOF DT. But he also benefitted from playing with Culpepper and then McFarland. Our front took off when Simeon joined the team. We don’t need GMC to be Sapp. He’s very good at doing his job of eating up double teams & disrupting the pocket. What we’ve lacked for years is a…[Read more]

“Cook has work ethic questions” Now you’re just making crap up. This is a flat out lie. I really wish fans wouldn’t be so gullible.
