This is such a false narrative. Tell me what missed kicks cost us a games/playoff spot? You conveniently leave out the 3 games (CAR, KC NO) he helped win that allowed us to even be in position for a playoff push. Look, Berto had to go as he was just not consistent enough, but this scapegoating of him as the reason we missed the playoffs is garbage.

A lot of good from the 1st team offense and just enough bad to bring the hype back down to Earth.
-OL got really shaky after Dot went out with injury.
-Doug looked great and ran hard with good vision.
-Marpet handled himself well against some very good DT’s.
-Jameis was fantastic on the majority of his drop backs. Was patient (OL blocked…[Read more]

Great write up with actual examples of why our faith in Licht shouldn’t be shaken. Like you said, he’s made mistakes. All GM’s do, especially first timers. I think his biggest mistake was overvaluing how good the team was going into the 2016 draft. Hence the gamble on drafting Berto. But, his good decisions vastly outweigh his bad ones. If ASJ and…[Read more]

Berto had to be cut. He simply couldn’t find consistency to be our starting day kicker. I hated the pick on draft day, but I hoped he would prove me wrong. I’m disappointed it didn’t work out because now we wasted drafting a potential starter/quality backup that could be contributing this year. We passed on Vonn Bell and Yannick Ngakoue to draft…[Read more]

He’s going to benefit so much from finally having a really good NT beside him. He’s lacked a proper line partner his whole career. Our DL should feast this season.

Love these video breakdowns with more written to compliment them. I mentioned this on Twitter, but that TD by DJax is awesome to watch because he gets up on Robinson so fast, he’s able to turn him around with a simple hesitation move. Even inside the Red Zone, speed kills. Can’t wait to see full offense in training camp.

In my opinion CB is the second hardest position to play for rookies. QB being the hardest. Rookie corners like Ramsey, Darby & Peters are the exception. Not the norm. That said, Vernon certainly had issues last season that he’ll have to overcome this year. He’s not going to get taller or faster, but he can be more aggressive & use his technique to…[Read more]

I’m cautiously optimistic about the OL this season. On paper they should be better unit than last season. They didn’t make any big moves but they did upgrade from within. There are a lot of “IF” factors though.
-IF Marpet can succeed at C
-IF Sweezy can come back and be productive at RG & be better in pass pro
-IF Smith can put it all…[Read more]

Great breakdown of all the info from the last day of OTA’s, Trevor.
I won’t harp too much on DJax missing lots of time, but when you come out first day and say how important it is to get in with new guys & build as a team, it’s a bad look. While I was really excited we stole OJ, Brate and Winston is a dangerous combo. Winston needs to trust his…[Read more]

I can’t understand why pundits are so convinced Saints are going to finish higher than us. They got worse on offense (Lost Cooks & Unger to injury) and their first six games are Vikings, Patriots, Panthers, Dolphins, Lions, and Packers. I can’t honestly see where the Bucs lose 8 games.

Ha. It’s all fun and games in the offseason. I’ll say it again, if a team can’t handle preseason hype, they were never gonna be good anyway. I can see what Adam Rank is thinking. Giants, Packers, Falcons, Seahawks, Cowboys are the main threats to come out of the NFC. On paper, we match up well with all of them. Get into the dance and chances are…[Read more]

I’m fine with Hump being the forgotten man. Let opposing DC’s forget about him and he’ll make them pay. He’s really undervalued, imo. I’m really excited to see Godwin once pads come on and more of the playbook is installed. I really think he’s going to push for playing time sooner rather than later. Him, Evans, DJax coupled with Brate or OJ is…[Read more]

Hump has really proven himself in the last two years. The slot job is his to lose. He’s sure handed, good quickness getting into his routes, and he’s pretty good in punt returns. He’ll benefit greatly from DJax & Evans clearing out space for him. Plus the biggest asset is that Jameis trusts him on the field. I’ve watched Jameis for 4 years and…[Read more]

Ha ha ha at Yahoo Sports. Gives us a C and doesn’t even mention OJ Howard. I think the draft, on paper, should be graded a B+
RootsCrew commented on the post, Cover 3: Licht vs. NFC South; Inside The Film, Bucs TE Howard 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Exactly. He’s not done anything egregious in the draft beside trading up for Berto. There is no Manziel or Barron or Gaines Adams in his first round picks. I think drafting Sims was overhauling his ability at the next level. If he could have stayed healthy, it wouldn’t be as bad. Feels like ASJ taught him a good lesson in managing his risks on…[Read more]
Excellent Cover 3, Trevor. God, are there really people debating the OJ pick? Insanity.
Anyway, the breakdown of each GM’s draft classes really made it easy to compare and think about the impact they’ve had on their teams. Looking objectively, I’d agree that Licht is just behind Dimitroff. I think 2014 is a bit of an asterisk as Lovie was so…[Read more]
RootsCrew commented on the post, All Indications Point To Martin Being A Part Of Bucs’ Backfield In 2017 4 months, 2 weeks ago
I absolutely agree they addressed glaring needs at WR and TE. Great additions to the offense. But the Bucs basically had the same issues, ASJ out & VJax injured/WR depth, in 2015, but we could lean on the run game. The OL still needs to run block better and hopefully we’ll have some semblance of a run game this season and better balance.
Yeah, don’t think the draft was bad by any stretch. Love the first 3 picks. Not sure why you assumed the worst. Wish we would have swapped out Beckwith with a CB or RB, but whatever. Gambling on Doug and not grabbing a younger, cheaper replacement earlier in the draft is a risk. Hopefully McNichols is another Doug. The Pro Bowl version. We’ll see.
Thought it was pretty clear, but I’ll try to sharpen it up. I’m not being negative. Just expressing a concern. Gambling on Doug to have a good year is a risk. He’s had 2 good years. 3 bad/injury years. Chances are he’s the lead back come week 4. If he has another injury plagued year, we’re right back where we were last season. Quizz isn’t a lead…[Read more]
