There is no doubt the Bucs front office is burning the midnight oil studying available cornerbacks, even with over two months to go before they are on the clock in the April NFL Draft.

Earlier this week NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah released his latest mock draft and this latest edition he has the Buccaneers selecting Vernon Hargreaves III from the University of Florida.

The Gators standout is viewed as a consensus Top 15 pick, and has been mocked anywhere from No. 5 overall down to No. 15. Will the Buccaneers have a shot at Hargreaves? A lot will depend on how he does at the NFL Combine that begins next week in Indianapolis where PewterReport.com will be in attendance.

The Tampa area product caught some flack for his play late in the season, but most still agree he has all the tools to be an effective cornerback in the NFL. With one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, if Hargreaves is still on the board when they pick, Hargreaves may be trading in his orange and blue for red and pewter.

Unless he tanks at combine I don’t see him lasting till the Buc’s pick.

He looks so small and thin. How is he gonna come up and tackle an NFL sized tight end or running back? How will he get off the block of a bigger WR? His size seems like a major liability. I watched a few games this year and VH3 made a few great plays, but he also gave up quite a few plays. Manhandled by blockers, beat by WR’s. Pass.

Like many others, I soured a bit on Hargreaves towards the end of the season. Too many 50/50 jump balls that he was on the losing end of, as well as biting on a few double moves. To me he’s more of a guy you draft with #21 pick or lower, so if we want to trade down that low I’d be in favor of taking him.

I’d have to agree with BucWild and PInk on this one as I don’t see him as a top 10 guy. Just from what I saw, which was about 4 games, he got burnt A LOT. I know it happens to Db’s but he was getting eaten up by double moves. And his height is also a concern of mine for someone so small framed. I could see bigger receivers putting him on his backside a few times.

I say we trade up and get ramsey from FSU! His work ethic and athletism alone should make him a success at the next level. Olus think of the disguises we could have if we had a safety that could play corner too!
Go bucs!

I don’t see this guy as a spot 9 pick either.
