Bucs head coach Jon Gruden can only hope that the outcome of Saturday’s game is a sign of things to come for Tampa Bay in 2007.

The rain that fell over Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. certainly didn’t rain on the team’s 27-0 parade over the South squad on Saturday at the 2007 Under Armour Senior Bowl.

Gruden’s last trip to the Senior Bowl two years ago ended with a loss. However, his North team won in convincing fashion this time around.

Penn State running back Tony Hunt ran for a touchdown and Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Washington State wide receiver Jason Hill. Michigan State QB Drew Stanton, who replaced Smith later in the game, also threw a 7-yard touchdown pass, completing his throw to East Carolina WR Aundrae Allison.

The North team’s defense put on a clinic, with Nebraska defensive end Jay Moore recording three sacks and two forced fumbles, and Louisville defensive tackle Amobi Okoye recording a quarterback takedown.

“We had a blast,” Gruden told NFL Network after the game. “We met a lot of good kids. It’s a credit to the good coaches that have prepared these kids throughout their collegiate careers. These guys worked hard for us, and it paid off in the end.”
