The Chat Session was held from 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, November 13, 2007.

Pewter Report publisher Scott Reynolds and editor-in-chief Jim Flynn hosted the 30-minute chat session and answered questions from Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans. provides Bucs fans with a transcript of Tuesday's chat session below.

Reynolds and Flynn are identified as pewterreportsr and pewterreportjf, respectively. Their chat room identities are bolded below.

The chat transcript reads from top to bottom.

pewterreportjf: Hello, Bucs fans. Let the chat begin.
cadillac 24: SR's Fab Five is up!
cadillac 24: Hey JF
pewterreportjf: Everyone enjoy the bye week?
bucboy: yes!
buc101: I enjoyed the bye week, saints and panthers lost
guest: Yeah JF, results could not have gone better for us
buc101: what I'm not enjoying is my name color
pewterreportjf: Hope everyone is well rested since the Bucs likely will be making a strong playoff push here over the next seven games.
cadillac 24: It was hard without the Bucs. I didn't watch any football at all this week because I went fishing on Sunday.
pewterreportsr: Hello, Bucs fans.
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – You picked a good weekend to fish. In the meantime, the Rams and Falcons helped the Bucs out a lot by upsetting the Saints and Panthers, respectively.
cadillac 24: Hi SR
buc_sid: hello all, do you guys expect to see P-Chuck this week or is he still out?
pewterreportsr: buc101 -You're like a ghost!
finn_bucs: Have you guys fished out any more on Garcia's arm?
cadillac 24: Yeah, that was awesome! The Bucs are in first place now!
buc101: hey Scott, you noticed lol
bucboy: spires?
pewterreportjf: buc_sid – There's a chance Patrick Chukwurah will play vs. the Atlanta Falcons after being sidelined a few weeks with a shoulder ailment. The Bucs would love to get him back as he's extremely quick off the snap.
buc101: any help here SR?
detroitbuc: hay yall
pewterreportsr: finn bucs – Garcia claimed he didn't have a sore arm, yet Gruden acknowledged he did. Funny, I remember Brad Johnson saying he didn't have a broken vertabrae in his back in 2002 when he really did.
yuccaneers: SR/JF the 4.6 million escalator in Carnell Williams contract will it trigger it and will it come due in 2008?
spiderman1314: Just how crucial will the next few weeks be for Michael Clayton in terms of his future?
pewterreportjf: finn_bucs – Jeff Garcia's arm was just sore. Coach Gruden attributed it to normal soreness and Jeff Garcia apparently denied he even had soreness. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle, but as of right now it doesn't seem like anything to worry about.
pewterreportsr: Just enjoy being invisible, buc101. I wish I was sometimes!
cadillac 24: Let me get this question out of the way: Did the Bucs have any interest in Simeon Rice at all, even remote interest? Would they have waited till he cleared waivers? How do you think he'll fair in Indianapolis?
bucboy: michael bennett will return the bucs first kickoff for a TD
finn_bucs: Can we expect to see Ratliff on PR duty this weekend?
mnbucsfan: Hope that's all it is SR/JF……evening all sorry I'm a bit late
buc101: Does Tampa realize that they held New England scoreless in the first quarter in pre-season?
buc101: lol
pewterreportsr: yuccaneers – I don't know, but I doubt it.
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – The Bucs were not interested in bringing Simeon Rice back. They were interested in keeping him back in training camp. They asked him to restructure his contract and reduce his base salary from $7.2 million to about $5 million and sign a one-year contract extension, but he refused, which led to his release. The Bucs' locker room has great chemistry right now and Gaines Adams, although he has plenty of room to improve as a pass rusher, is better against the run now than Rice ever was in Tampa Bay.
pewterreportsr: cadillac24 – The Bucs didn't have much interest in Rice. The guy had zero sacks in Denver and is a shell of his former self. When he started to disrupt the locker room in Denver, Shanahan did the wise thing and cut him.
mnbucsfan: Looks like Gruden and Allen called this one right…so much for all the nay sayers
pewterreportjf: finn_bucs – There's a chance Keiwan Ratliff will return punts this weekend for the Bucs, but I wouldn't be surprised if the team waited a week or two. The Bucs have also been known to use as many as three or even four different players to return punts in one game, so that could continue. We'll learn more later in the week.
cadillac 24: How do you think Patrick Chukwurah will do the rest of the season? Can he have as good as production as Rice used to? Is he better against the run than Rice?
mnbucsfan: he has to stay healty for starters
pewterreportsr: cadillac24 – Chuk is the one Buc that I really don't know the status of. We'll find out on Wednesday.
bucboy: word
bucboy: everyone else playing?
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – I think Patrick Chukwurah has a limited number of pass rush moves, but that's to be expected as he's converting from linebacker to defensive end. He is extremely quick off the snap and around the corner. If he can stay healthy I think Chukwurah can be a real weapon on obvious passing downs.
mnbucsfan: How about the rest of our injutred crew any new developments?
pewterreportsr: bucboy – Spires will still be out.
finn_bucs: Any injury updates on Pittman, Clayton or Smith? Or is it still the same that they are expected to play
bucboy: bummer
yuccaneers: SR/JF The two runningback in the draft that would fit the Bucs system the best are Ray Rice and Jonathan Stewart if both are there and the Bucs are picking late which back would you take in the first round?
buc101: is chad owens on the practice squad?
pewterreportjf: The only player that likely will still be sidelined is defensive end Greg Spires (calf injury). We're not sure when he's expected to return.
pewterreportsr: Pittman, Smith and Clayton are expected to play in Atlanta.
bucboy: yahoo!
mnbucsfan: That's good news…
detroitbuc: sweet
cadillac 24: I'm going to the Atlanta Falcons game! How is it in Atlanta? How are the fans there?
bucboy: they weathered the storm
pewterreportsr: buc101 – No, Chad Owens is not on the practice squad, but Chad Lucas is.
finn_bucs: thats good to know to SR, we'll need as a big a supporting cast for Garcia as possible
guest: SR Where are u sitting for the NO game? I will be there also
pewterreportjf: Scott did a great write-up on the running backs that might enter the NFL Draft in 2008. However, I do not expect the Bucs to go that route for a running back. There are several talented players that are in their prime that are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in '08. The Bucs, who are $30 million under the cap next year, will have the money to sign one or even two of them.
detroitbuc: We need a pass rusher
buc101: What was wrong with Owens exactly? Just didn't need him?
pewterreportsr: guest – I will be where ever the people put me!
mnbucsfan: I suspect that we will look at speedy WR with the emphsis on speed to start with
finn_bucs: Graham,Pittman, Caddy, Bennett pricey FA…whos the odd man out?
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – The Georgia Dome is very loud. It will be important for the Bucs to take the crowd out of the game early.
guest: We will be on teh Bucs side about half way up wearing a 40 jersey
bucboy: pass rush is a must
cadillac 24: Do you think there will be a lot of Bucs fans there?
yuccaneers: Pittamn and Bennett are bioth free agents at the end of the season and Williams is no lock to play next season with his injury
pewterreportsr: finn bucs – The Bucs may not have to have an odd man out. Williams might be put on the PUP list to start the 2008 season.
cadillac 24: Will the offense or defense have a better game?
pewterreportsr: guest- I'll be in New Orleans all weekend. Be sure you come up and introduce yourself.
pewterreportjf: finn_bucs – I don't expect Cadillac Williams to be a big contributor in 2008. Michael Bennett and Michael Pittman are scheduled to become free agents, but there's a chance one or even both could re-sign. Graham is cheap and a good special teams player, so I think he'll stick around. There will be several running backs to choose from, including Michael Turner, Mewelde Moore and Julius Jones.
guest: Sure will
spiderman1314: JF- are you wary at all of sinking big money into a running back with the relative ease other teams have in finding backs without spending big bucks?
buc101: SR – you need to come down to Indy ;)
mnbucsfan: SR/JF in a red board item talking about the players on IR you said you couldn't find them….Now I understand they don't have to be at the facility at all but I would think that they would at least be there during the season for treatment ect any new updates?
bucboy: michael turner
cadillac 24: With the return of Brian Kelly on defense and him becoming fully healthy, do you think that Jon Gruden will have Phillip Buchanon play a little offense like he said at the begining of the season?
pewterreportjf: spiderman1314 – I don't think the Bucs will throw a blank check at any of the running backs that might become available next year. They'll likely continue to be conservative spenders, just as they were in 2007. That strategy certainly has paid off so far.
finn_bucs: great question cadillac24!
pewterreportsr: spiderman1314 – I don't think Bruce Allen will sink big money into a running back. He's a pretty conservative spender since the Garner-Deese-Steussie flub in 2004.
bucboy: bk back is huge
extremehardness: are they still intereested in burner turner and if derek anderson hits FA will they go after him
pewterreportsr: As you can all see, Jim and I are on the same wavelength about 95 percent of the time!
guest: Will Bennett get more reps this game or is he still learning teh book?
detroitbuc: will BK play in ATL
mnbucsfan: This team should not overpay for anyone the market at some point will correct itself (I hope)
buc101: how long do we have the Jackhammer for?
buc101: let's see if anyone picks up on my nickname
bucboy: graham?
pewterreportjf: mnbucfan – It is a lot harder than you would think to find the players that are on injured reserve and talk to them. A lot of them aren't required to be there, so they're not. Others purposely hide because they don't want to talk to the media. If we can find them and talk to them we will. The trainers and coaching staff also are not informative in terms of telling you how injured players are coming along. They don't want to disclose a lot of that info.
pewterreportsr: guest – Bennett was added as insurance. With Pittman back and Graham playing well, I'm not sure he will get much more playing time.
yuccaneers: SR/JF do you see the bucs trying to move Kelly around the draft as he is due a 1 million dollar roster bonus and if the team can unlaod Kelly can save close to 4 million dollars in cap room for 2008
bucboy: bennett should return kicks! need the speed back there
buc101: no not grahahm, think Jack…tanard jackson
detroitbuc: bennet in the slot wr
pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – Yes, Brian Kelly will play in Atlanta, but it might be as the nickel cornerback. A groin injury is something that can often times linger, and Phillip Buchanon has played well in Kelly's place.
buc101: how long is Tanard jackson's contract?
bucboy: t jack is a stud
buc101: I call him the Jackhammer lol
detroitbuc: yes
pewterreportjf: yuccaneers – I don't see the Bucs trying to trade Brian Kelly unless they feel they can sign a younger cornerback that is in his prime. When healthy, Kelly is a good player.
cadillac 24: Will Phil Buchanon play offense now that BK is back healthy. Jon Gruden said he would in the begining of the season.
mnbucsfan: JF I know we have seen Mike on the sidelines but I suppose he's not talking until he's made his decision which I hope for him is retirement although it's strange not to see him out there.
naaat: echoing cadillac24's question: With the return of Brian Kelly on defense and him becoming fully healthy, do you think that Jon Gruden will have Phillip Buchanon play a little offense like he said at the begining of the season?#
extremehardness: are they still intereested in burner turner and if derek anderson hits FA will they go after him sr
pewterreportsr: yuccaneers – I don't think Kelly is moveable. He's oft-injured and I don't think he has much value on the trade market. I don't think the Bucs will cut him, either. Good corners are tough to find, and even if he is only the nickel, he's still a stud when he's healthy. The Bucs are better off with him. They don't need the excess cap room.
buc101: anyone gonna answer my question?
pewterreportjf: mnbucsfan – We expect Mike Alstott to announce his retirement from the NFL in December and the Bucs to do something special for him for their regular season finale vs. Carolina. Don't hold us to that because we don't know that for a fact, but that's what we suspect will happen with the "A-Train."
pewterreportsr: Jackson signed a four-year deal with the Bucs. He's a Buc through 2010.
buc101: thanks sr
pewterreportjf: extremehardness – Yes, the Bucs will be interested in signing Michael Turner. There's no way Derek Anderson will hit free agency. Cleveland would be crazy to let him go the way he's playing right now.
extremehardness: sr-jf why the hell do we not blitzs MORE?????
mnbucsfan: JF, I think that's the best decision for him he will be missed however, hope the Bucs can find a place for him in the org.
detroitbuc: our blitz packages are weak
bucboy: and when they do blitz it is terrible. somehow 5 guys block 7 easily
pewterreportjf: extremehardness – I wrote in-depth about the Buccaneers and why do not blitz more and why they're not playing the 3-4 defense in a Flynn's Focus column a few weeks ago.
pewterreportsr: Flynn had a "nice chat" with Monte Kiffin about blitzing recently. He should probably answer that question! :)
pewterreportjf: mnbucsfan – I wouldn't be surprised if Alstott landed a job with the Bucs in some form or fashion after his playing days come to an end.
pewterreportsr: bucboy – I agree. Tampa Bay's blitzes are predictable and are often picked up. I would like to see more delayed blitzes.
buc101: sr-jf. is Tampa looking at all into Bo Ruud, barret ruud's little brother? Brooks will retire soon and we need someone to fill the spot. Why not have double the Ruudness?
detroitbuc: and stunts, the lions have some nice blitz packages
bucboy: with bk back i want to see ronde blitz more
buc101: reincarnation of Dewey and Lee Roy
pewterreportsr: buc101 – I don't think Bo Ruud is the playmaker that his brother is. However, I'm sure they are scouting him hard, so you never know.
pewterreportjf: extremehardness – Yes, I took my life into my own hands when I asked Kiffin about the Bucs not blitzing more and not playing the 3-4 defense. He went on the defensive and didn't like the questions I had for him. But hey, that's part of my job. To Kiffin's credit, he provided answers, but they might not be the ones some of you wanted to hear.
bucboy: don't mess with monte!
detroitbuc: time for kiffin to go
buc101: definitly
pewterreportsr: To answer the question that is on everyone's mind … YES, the new SR's Fab Five will be up right after the chat.
pewterreportjf: Next time I interview Coach Kiffin I am going to put on a helmet. :)
mnbucsfan: How is Gaines pass rush comeing along…He's strugged but his play hasn't been bad.
strick-9: JF: Can we find those responses by Kiffin anywhere
buc101: maybe get some pads as well
pewterreportjf: Scott, actually your Fab five is up now.
buc101: haha
yuccaneers: I have already read it or some of it as it is up now
dbucfan: I just finished reading it – good evening folks
pewterreportjf: strick – 9 – You can find that Flynn's Focus by going through our article archives. I published it in October or November.
strick-9: thnx
extremehardness: i heard that raheem is up for the def.cord. in the future is this soo sr jf
pewterreportsr: Coach Kiffin and I really got into once in 2001. I can't really reveal what it was about, but he chewed my ass pretty good. He wanted me to give up a source and I wouldn't do it. He didn't like it, but at the end of our "conversation" I think he respected me for not revealing his name.
bucboy: raheen for d coord
bucboy: raheem, my bad
pewterreportjf: It will be interesting to see if the Bucs retain Coach Kiffin, whose contract is set to expire at the end of this season. If Coach Kiffin retires or is let go, we think Raheem Morris would be the No. 1 candidate to succeed him.
strick-9: which I'm sure provided access to additional info you'd probably not have received thereafter
naaat: I can imagine Kiffin reacting a little strongly in interviews given that he rarely has to face the media
dbucfan: What is your evaluation of Gaines – is he going to step up and be the player the buccs expect?
pewterreportsr: bucboy – You may get your wish in time. The organization is high on Raheem and he may indeed replace Kiffin one day.
pewterreportjf: strick 9 – There were parts of my conversation with Coach Kiffin that were off the record, but you know what that means.
dbucfan: Raheem has made a huge impact – but I think Kiffin is going to had out a couple of more years
finn_bucs: How is Gus Bradley doing as LB coach? we hear a lot about Morris' excellence but not much about our LB coach…
pewterreportsr: dbucfan – I think he will. I think Gaines has a good chance to finish the season strong and wind up with 4-5 sacks.
bucboy: i think gaines has done well
cadillac 24: With the return of Brian Kelly on defense and him becoming fully healthy, do you think that Jon Gruden will have Phillip Buchanon play a little offense like he said at the begining of the season?
dbucfan: What is it that you see in him SR
pewterreportjf: What does everyone think of some of the new features on, including video and the redesigned front page of our site?
bucboy: excellent additons
buc101: Any chance Jake Plummer will play? lmao
strick-9: the site gets better everyday
bucboy: jake is still in the mountains i think
mnbucsfan: JF the video is great more content for us out of state fans that we would not see at all
dbo2440: video was a great addition….. any chance you expand on that and have player or coaches interviews
cadillac 24: I like the new additions to the site. When is the PR store coming?
pewterreportsr: dbucsfan – I see the closing speed. He has to engage the OTs more often and drive them backwards. Part of being a defensive end is collapsing the pocket, not just running around the left or right tackle.
guest: My system isn't good enuf to use all the new bells
buc101: I have the same question as cadillac 24
pewterreportjf: cadillac 24 – I'm not sure if we'll see Phillip Buchanon on offense. I suppose there's a chance. The Bucs ran a significant amount of trick plays on offense in training camp, but we haven't seen any of them in the regular season, which is disappointing because some of the plays were really creative.
dbucfan: What are the buccs seeing in Sims? Noted the contract extension mention in Fab 5 – do you thingk he is going to make an impact?
finn_bucs: How is Gus Bradley doing as LB coach? we hear a lot about Morris' excellence but not much about our LB coach…
pewterreportjf: cadilac 24 – The PR store is what is being worked on right now. It should be ready to go at the end of the month.
dbucfan: Thanks SR, the physical is there – was more wondering about want-top and understanding the d
cadillac 24: That's great!
buc101: you guys said it would be ready at the beginning of the season lol
pewterreportsr: dbo2440 – Can't do player or coach interviews, I'm afraid. The NFL has draconian policies in place that limit on-video appearances to just 45 seconds for players and coaches. Not only that but we can only have the videos up for 24 hours. It's not worth the time or trouble.
mnbucsfan: all good things to those who wait
pewterreportjf: The Bucs have filed three grievances against Jake Plummer to date. They want him to play for the Bucs in 2008. If not, they want about $7 million of the bonus money he received while playing for Denver.
extremehardness: whats the word on ratliff is he going to be a play maker sr jf
bucboy: i bet bill b can do it
strick-9: sr/jr: do you believe gruden/kiffin don't play certain players out of loyalty to others….gruden often says we'l see more of this guy or that guy but it never comes to fruition.
buc101: thanks for that jf. I was wondering what happned to the money deal of it all
cadillac 24: Is that why you replace the game footage from Sports Zone to pictures on the Sports Zone videos?
pewterreportsr: dbucfan – Regarding Sims, we'll see over the second half of the season. He played like his hair was on fire for the handful of snaps he got against Arizona.
mnbucsfan: SR/JF with all the treades what draft picks do we have left at the moment?
pewterreportjf: Let's hear your predictions, Bucs fans. How will the Bucs finish the 2007 season? Record? Playoffs? How far will they go?
pewterreportsr: cadillac24 – Yep.
finn_bucs: 10-6, win the South.
mnbucsfan: trades JF I have said 10 wins all along and a sweep of the hated Panthers as well
strick-9: 9-7 but we win the division
bucboy: 10-6, win division and a game. then lose to dal or gb
guest: I agree with finn
dbucfan: If Simms and Gaines come through that will be half the battle – do you see Sims as UT and Gaines at RDE?
pewterreportsr: mnbucsfan – Boy, that's a good question. I'll have to jog my memory on what draft picks the Bucs have left in 2008.
extremehardness: whats the word on ratliff is he going to be a play maker sr jf
pewterreportjf: extremehardness – The Bucs wanted to bring Ratliff in and see what he can do as a special teams player and also give him the chance to learn the defense, just as Phillip Buchanon did a year ago. We'll see how he does.
buc101: we should be able to win out the rest of the season, but we'll prolly end up losing about two. so 10-4
cadillac 24: I think that they'll go 10-6 and win the division. They will beat the Lions at home in the first round of the playoffs, but lose to the Packers away in the second round.
dbucfan: btw – buccs will be 9-7 and win the south – thanks to the Rams for starting another Saints Swoon
buc101: I mean 10-6
finn_bucs: any word on Gus Bradley?
buc101: win the south
mnbucsfan: SR I know we still have the top 3 but after that it's a mess depending on what happens
pewterreportsr: dbucfan – I think Gaines will fare better as a LDE in his early years. As for Sims, I think he can play both UT and NT. We'll see how he progresses in the last 7 games.
bucboy: i think they could beat GB, but not dal
pewterreportjf: finn_bucs – It's been tough for Tampa Bay to replace Joe Barry, but Gus Bradley has done a good job of filling his shoes. The players respect him.
pewterreportsr: I think the Bucs will win 9 games, but they should win 10.
pewterreportjf: Scott brings up a good point. I wouldn't mind seeing the Bucs sign Justin Smith or Jared Allen in free agency next year and moving Gaines Adams to left end.
buc101: how do you guys feel about the washington game? win or loss?
mnbucsfan: SR/JF those 2 loses to Detroit and Jax are just killers they would be 7-2 right now
finn_bucs: thats not surprising, Barry will continue the legacy of Buccaneer positional coach turned D Coordinator some day
dbucfan: The buccs need to get a couple of their current group to be productive if not better than that for a few years, can't spend the entire draft on Dline – who do you see in the draft that might attract Monte's and Coyer's attention – since apparently they still need a UT and RDE?
finn_bucs: LOL
finn_bucs: that day was sometime last summer haha
spiderman1314: I would love to get Smtih or Allen, but I can't see either team letting those guys walk.
pewterreportjf: I think the Bucs can defeat the Washington Redskins. The 'Skins seem like they're falling apart.
pewterreportjf: Okay, we've got to get going, Bucs fans. Thanks for joining the chat session tonight.
bucboy: 12 -4 and win super bowl!
cadillac 24: Thanks for the chat guys! I have a Fab Five to read now!
bucboy: BELIEVE!!!!!
dbucfan: Sorry I got here late – thanks for the time and info.
mnbucsfan: Thnks SR/JF have a great week glad the Bucs are back on this Sunday!!!
guest: Hi-five for Fab five
buc101: we should go 12-4. The rest of the teams are all beatable. But I think we'll end up losing about two
pewterreportsr: bucboy – I think the Bucs would have a real challenge beating Green Bay, New York or Dallas in the playoffs. I think they could handle Seattle or Detroit.
strick-9: thank you again….this is the best feature by far
bucboy: agree SR, but i think they would at least have a shot at GB
pewterreportsr: Thanks for the great questions, Bucs fans. See you next Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m. for the Chat.
