The Chat Session was held from 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, October 23, 2007.

Pewter Report publisher Scott Reynolds and editor-in-chief Jim Flynn hosted the 30-minute chat session and answered questions from Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans. provides Bucs fans with a transcript of Tuesday's chat session below.

Reynolds and Flynn are identified as pewterreportsr and pewterreportjf, respectively. Their chat room identities are bolded below.

The chat transcript reads from top to bottom.

pewterreportsr: Hello, gang. Busy night already with FB Zack Crockett getting released and WR Chad Lucas and FB Byron Storer getting signed. Also, WR Derrick Hamilton was signed to the practice squad.
detroitbuc: does Chad have any speed
mnbucsfan: hey SR/JR greeting from the soon to be frozen north
guest: Hello, Bucs fans.
vegasbuc: SR – What's up with your buddy Ellis Wyms? No matter how many Seattle DT's get hurt, he can't find his way to the field. Looks like Allen/Gruden made the right call on both Simeon and Wyms!
mnbucsfan: SR what if anyting are the Bucs doing to cut down on these 8 min plus drives that are occuring in the 3rd qtr?
pewterreportjf: Hello, Bucs fans.
pewterreportsr: Chad does have some speed, but more importantly, he has a better understanding of the offense than any WR off the street.
detroitbuc: yes i agree SR
mnbucsfan: have to agree also SR
detroitbuc: it would be nice to have mike bennet play some slot WR on sunday, to use his speed
guest: Why the move to bring in Storer over Crockett?
pewterreportsr: vegasbuc – I'm not sure what's up with Wyms. He should be getting some p.t. because Seattle plays a similar defense, but to no avail. Allen was right on Rice and Wyms … but maybe not Dewayne White!
detroitbuc: lord knows we need a pash rush
mnbucsfan: Bennet needs to concentrate on the running plays not the wr spot
pewterreportjf: I think one of the main reasons why the Bucs released Zack Crockett and signed Byron Storer is because of special teams. Storer can contribute on special teams whereas Crockett could not. With Mike Clayton injured, the move makes some sense
nomeremortal: Was Crockett really waived and what's the Story with Storer? All's I remember about him is that he Dropped 2 easy passes in the endzone.
pewterreportsr: We are trying to find out why Crockett was released in favor of Storer. Our guesses at this time is that either Crockett doesn't have much gas left in the tank or is not a special teams contributor (or both).
detroitbuc: yeah but we could use him as a mismatch
spiderman1314: I still think it's too early to judge White. I mean over the course of the season, he's really only had two really good games.
pewterreportsr: nomeremortal – Storer is a good special teams player and a good blocker. Hands of stone, though.
spiderman1314: Speaking of Clayton, what are you guys hearing about his injury?
jollyroger25: What happened to Chas Gessner?
pewterreportsr: spiderman1314 – High ankle sprain. He's likely out through the bye week – if not a little longer.
pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – The Bucs have designed a few plays for Michael Bennett as a receiver. They like his speed, but he needs time to digest the offense.
pewterreportsr: Gessner was placed on injured reserve after the preseason finale.
nomeremortal: True Dat on the "hands of stone".
pewterreportjf: spiderman – We're hearing Michael Clayton has a high ankle sprain, but we do not know how long he's expected to miss. We should find out more tomorrow.
guest: hello room
jollyroger25: Any chance Chad Owens gets another chance?
spiderman1314: But wasn't Gessner subsequentl released from the IR?
mnbucsfan: Will put this out again….What if anything are the Bucs doing to cut down on these 8 min plus 3rd qtr drives it just seems these are killing us and it has occured in at least the last 3 games
pewterreportjf: jollyroger – No, the Bucs saw all they needed to see from Chad Owens in training camp and preseason.
guest: will Bennett see increased action this week?
guest: significant action
pewterreportsr: I'm watching my taped game of Ohio State vs. Michigan State right now. The Spartans have a DE named Jonal Saint Dic, who has nine sacks this season and eight forced fumbles, which leads the NCAA. He's got a decent burst.
guest: college stats dont translate into pro ability, just look at the $4 pick in alstyears draft
pewterreportjf: mnbucsfan – That's a good question. I'm not sure the Bucs know how to fix the problem. If they did they'd fix it, let alone telling us about it. It's a concern.
guest: #4 pick i mean
antcam: Are the coaches worried about True's preformance Sunday????
nomeremortal: That Clayton injury LOOKED a lot Worse than it was.
detroitbuc: we need some burst on the D line
pewterreportsr: mnbucsfan – Good observation. Not sure what the Bucs can do about their third quarter defense except just go back to basics – tackle, tackle, tackle. Get off the field.
spiderman1314: How concerned, if at all, is the coaching staff about Gaines Adams's lack of impact over the season?
mnbucsfan: Yes we are lucky Claytons injury wasn't another season ending 1
nomeremortal: I read True was suffering from a Stomach virus but played through it.
pewterreportjf: antcam – No. Jeremy Trueblood had been the most consistent offensive lineman until Sunday. He played with a bad stomach bug. I think he'll rebound.
pewterreportsr: antcam – Trueblood had a stomach virus on Sunday. I think he'll bounce back just fine. I really like Trueblood. He's a pretty smart, confident guy.
detroitbuc: hope the injurys stop
mnbucsfan: SR/JF yes that's whats frustrating me the most about this team the offense is only getting 1 maybe 2 series in the 3rd qtr and there is no mometun going into the 4th
guest: id it seemed Detroit knew Garcis snap count. it seemd the Detroit DL was already moving forward when the ball ws snapped
jollyroger25: Are the coaches feeling like Penn could be the future at LT?
pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – You're not kidding. I don't know how many injuries the Bucs can handle.
antcam: If u have reviewed your game film, How did D. Penn grade out??
detroitbuc: this is true pink Guest
pewterreportsr: The Bucs felt Gaines Adams was kind of turning the corner over the last couple of games, then he really regressed last week at Detroit. I was very disappointed in his play. The Bucs need him to become a more physical pass rusher.
guest: didnt it seem Detroit was way quicker than they should on defenensive line.. it seemed they were 1-2 steps into the rush by the time the ball was napped
guest: snapped
detroitbuc: thats how the got the jump on that blocked punt
pewterreportjf: jollyroger – The Bucs love Penn's athleticism and he's doing a prety good job, but they need to see more of him before they determine if he's their future left tackle.
pewterreportsr: antcam – I think Donald Penn has been solid. His technique is lacking at times, but he finds a way to get the job done – kind of like Trueblood did last year as a rookie.
mnbucsfan: back to these long drives it appears that it's 3rd down that's the problem think it's due to the lack of pass rush??
jollyroger25: Is Dan Buenning the long-term anser at center?
aringhof: Pewter… are the Bucs the ONLY team in the NFL without a kick off return for a TD? theyve had punt returns, right? why is that?
detroitbuc: SR should we use the 46 D next wunday
mnbucsfan: jollyrodger….I think we need to look at the center spot via draft or FA during the off season
pewterreportjf: In Gaines Adams' defense, he was playing with a chest injury on Sunday. However, Scott is right – Adams needs to be more physical.
pewterreportsr: The thing that concerns me about this Sunday's game is the fact that the Jags have TWO huge DTs. Albert Haynesworth gave the Bucs problems two weeks ago. Shaun Rogers gave them problems on Sunday. Now the Bucs will have TWO impact DTs to worry about in John Henderson and Marcus Stroud. Wade, Sears and Joseph will have to bring their "A games."
detroitbuc: JF can we win the JAGS game
pewterreportjf: aringhof – Yes, the Bucs are the only team in the NFL that has never returned a kickoff for a touchdown. I am pretty sure of that.
spiderman1314: Is the staff pretty confident in Stovall as our 3rd receiver, or should we expect another move in the future?
detroitbuc: thats why we need to run around those big guys in the middle,
pewterreportsr: jollyroger25 – The Bucs are hoping Buenning can be the center of the future. He brings 23 more pounds of bulk to the center spot and is younger.
antcam: What's the deal w/C. Guessner??
pewterreportjf: detroitbuc – I do not like the way the Bucs match up at all against the Jaguars, especially in the trenches. I'm picking the Bucs to win in a close one. I like the fact that the Jaguars will be without QB David Garrard and how this game is in Tampa.
mnbucsfan: SR/JF hows the mood around 1 buc after this lose? And how many more injuries can this team sustain and still win
pewterreportsr: One more thing about Adams … he needs to engage the OTs he's going up against. He needs to get into them and rip, spin or swim move them. He tries to run around them or cut inside them without engaging the OTs and it's not working.
guest: Will the Bucs start playing more 3-4 this year? If so, which of their reserve linebackers do they want to get on the field?
pewterreportjf: spiderman – Bucs wide receivers coach Richard Mann told me Maurice Stovall was really coming on in practice. That said, I expect Stovall to get his shot as the No. 3 receiver.
jollyroger25: Is Anthony Davis a career back-up? He seemed to have a real upside.
mnbucsfan: He's got to step up now with Clayton out
pewterreportsr: mnbucsfan – Players are disappointed, but this wasn't a crushing loss. They know they gave this game to Detroit and I think that gives them solace.
aringhof: how is the Jags offense going to score any points when their starting QB this week played for FAMU , and their backup QB is one of their wide receivers…
antcam: that should piss'em off even more
pewterreportjf: mnbucsfan – Believe it or not, the players get over losses pretty quickly. They have to have short memories, though, win or lose. Some losses sting more than others, but by Wednesday it's forgotten about.
pewterreportsr: jollyroger25 – I think Davis has fallen out of favor with the Bucs' brass. I think they view him as a valuable backup, but he had his chance to start and dropped the ball in their eyes.
detroitbuc: i did not get over it yet, i have to here it everyday in detroit
rpm0226: Seems that we have several pressing needs for 2008. What position do you look for the Bucs to address in the first round.
mnbucsfan: I would think that letting this one get away would be 1 of those that hung on for a while…
aringhof: RB
antcam: d. line i hope
aringhof: RB, DL, OL in that order
pewterreportjf: jollyroger25 – I don't think Anthony Davis can be a solid starter at left tackle. If he has a shot to start, it would be at guard. He might be a career backup, but he's still valuable.
spiderman1314: I think taking a running back in the first round would be a really bad decision
pewterreportsr: aringof – Vinny Testaverde came off the couch to beat the Bucs with the Jets in 2005. Then Vinny came off the couch to beat the Cardinals two weeks ago. Strange things have happened and can happen. Just because a QB played at FAMU doesn't mean much. On any given Sunday…
mnbucsfan: Well we need a RB, speedy Wr Joey isn't going to be here forever sad to say
aringhof: is there ANY chance the Bucs are looking at Peter Warrick?
spiderman1314: But does this offense need a first round RB there are arguably more pressing needs?
pewterreportjf: It's too early to say which position the Bucs will draft for in the first round. Free agency dictates a lot of that.
detroitbuc: D-linemen and WR in the Draft
pewterreportsr: rpm0226 – Pass rush! Defensive ends and defensive tackles. I think Greg Spires and Kevin Carter are getting long in the tooth and might be replaced next year. So I'll say defensive end is the top priority.
rpm0226: I agree
nomeremortal: Am I missing something or is D. Joseph really underachieved for a guy who is a "Captain" on our team. Is it that he constantly has to help bail out Wade?
pewterreportsr: Like Jim said, when it comes to the draft, free agency will dictate what the Bucs do.
mnbucsfan: that 2 sr we have lot's of "needs" I think it depends on who's available where as to how they get addressed
pewterreportjf: aringhof – The Bucs might have looked at Peter Warrick, but they weren't too interested. It's tough to bring in a new player and get them caught up to speed in a timely manner.
jollyroger25: It took Sapp and Simeon Rice at least a year to really get comfortable with this defense. With that said, is there any chance some of the new d-line players could emerge as impact players?
antcam: i think D. Joesph is trying to do much
pewterreportsr: nomeremortal- The Bucs aren't thrilled with Joseph's play. He's played okay, but the team has much higher expectations for him. He is underachieving.
rpm0226: Looking at the pattern of Sophmore slumps that have hit our first rounds. Its a scary thought to think that Gaines Adams might actually get worse next year
aringhof: did Cato June get any flack for being punked and stiff armed by Calvin Johnson on their winning TD run last week?
pewterreportsr: antcam – My sources tell me that Joseph is thinking too much and guessing too much as opposing to trying to do too much.
pewterreportjf: Gaines Adams hasn't been as bad as some are suggesting. He's not showing up in the sack column, which is disappointing, but he's played better against the run than Simeon Rice ever did in Tampa.
mnbucsfan: Going into the Jags game what are we looking for in the rushing game or are we going to more of a passing game?
antcam: his penalty was just as costly as any of the other miscuses from the Bucs Sunday.
detroitbuc: well hope we can get 2more wins before the bye
pewterreportsr: Flynn brings up a great point. Gruden's passing game is pretty complicated and the team is likely to get quicker dividends by signing a player that has had experience in the system as opposed to a street free agent.
mnbucsfan: I think we all hope for that detroit
antcam: If that's the case, I wish the would have gave Guessner a shot
aringhof: i pray that Cato June saw the game film where he was stiff armed by Calvin Johnson…
pewterreportsr: I agree with Jim. Adams is playing pretty well against the run. But he was brought in to get after the passer and needs to work at that. I think he's better as a left end than he is a right end at this stage of his career.
nomeremortal: Actually True didn't play well last year, but has been World's better this year.
detroitbuc: anyone with so speed at #2 WR
pewterreportjf: Who is going to the Barrett Ruud charity autograph signing at the Westshore Sports Fan-Attic store on Saturday from 1-3PM?
aringhof: i sold my FSU vs Duke tickets, so ill be at the mall on saturday
pewterreportsr: mnbucsfan – All season long the Bucs have come out throwing to set up the run. It's worked pretty well. Garcia has avoided throwing INTs and with the Bucs throwing so early, it gets him into rhythm. Plus, it keeps the safeties back and opens up the running game. The Bucs then face 7-man fronts instead of the 8-man fronts they faced a year ago.
cadillac 24: I finally made it here!
aringhof: but if there an hour long line, im outta there
pewterreportjf: aringhof – We'll see you at the signing!
mnbucsfan: SR/JF this isn't really a Bucs question but why does the NFL make teams cut off the radio internet broadcast an hour before the game it kills me that I can't get to listen to it without haveing to pay the NFL for it and then it's not much good because I watch the games on tv so I don't need the radio at that point.
aringhof: cool
cadillac 24: I just got back from a Bucs Booster Club meeting with my dad and Anthony Becht was the guest speaker.
rjs147: I'm flying in for the game, and right now my flight is scheduled to arrive around 2:30 on Saturday. I'd like to make it, but I'll be cutting it close.
pewterreportsr: DEFINITELY come to the Barrett Ruud signing on Saturday at the Westshore Sports Fan-Attic! If you haven't met Barrett, you're in for a treat. He's a great guy. The kind of guy you can take pride in rooting for.
cadillac 24: Is Anthony Becht a free agent next year?
pewterreportjf: cadillac24 – Yes, Anthony Becht will be a free agent in 2008.
pewterreportsr: mnbucsfan – I don't really have a comment on the NFL and the Internet radio stuff. That's kind of a foreign topic to me.
cadillac 24: Becht hinted tonight that he was going to test the open market
rjs147: Will Ruud stop signing at 3pm, or if im in line by 3 will I be ok?
antcam: He's expandable
pewterreportsr: rjs147 – If you get there at 2:59 you should be fine.
cadillac 24: I don't think he'll be back because he said he wanted more of an opportunity to catch the ball.
detroitbuc: he cantcat
detroitbuc: cant catch
mnbucsfan: SR undrstand it just kills me that I can't listen to the pre-game though
cadillac 24: he said he was known as a catching TE in college
pewterreportjf: cadillac24 – The Bucs probably will let Becht test the market. They have not been happy with the play of the tight ends this year.
cadillac 24: Hopefully we get Dallas Clark.
pewterreportsr: The Bucs have been disappointed with the play of their tight ends over the last 3-4 games.
detroitbuc: listen to pre game at
antcam: They should let him test it tonight
mnbucsfan: JF even with A. Smith?? I though he was playing well
detroitbuc: when will P-chuck be back
pewterreportsr: mnbucsfan – That includes Smith. The tight ends stopped playing well after the Carolina game.
pewterreportjf: mnbucsfan – The Bucs expect better play from the tight ends, even Alex Smith.
pewterreportjf: We've got to get going, Bucs fans.
mnbucsfan: thanks for the chat SR/JF till next week
cadillac 24: See ya guys! Too bad I was only here for 5 minutes
pewterreportsr: detroitbuc – I think Chuk will be back in 1-2 weeks. The Bucs need him. If he was healthy, I think he could produce 6-7 sacks this year. He has the speed off the edge the Bucs need.
cadillac 24: How's the health of Michael Clayton?
pewterreportjf: Thanks for joining the chat session tonight. We will post a chat transcript tomorrow morning.
pewterreportsr: Tell your Bucs friends about We'll see you next Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m.
cadillac 24: Are the Bucs disapointed in Gaines Adams
antcam: I remember hearing alot about a TE from Delaware he's on the Card's practice squad??? Do u think the Bucs are interested
cadillac 24: Are you talking about Ben Patrick?
cadillac 24: He fell far in the draft. He was expected to go a lot higher.
pewterreportsr: cadillac24 – Clayton is supposed to be out through the bye week at least. The Bucs are disappointed in Gaines, especially after the Lions game.
pewterreportsr: I liked Ben Patrick at the Senior Bowl. I think he was the best tight end there.'
mnbucsfan: Till next week night all and GO BUCS!!
pewterreportsr: Gotta run, Bucs fans. See you next Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m.
