The Buccaneers have settled their grievance with retired quarterback Jake Plummer. While the offical numbers were not released, the agreement was believed to be for $3.5 million, which was half of the $7 million worth of bonus money Plummer received when he signed his contract.

"We have entered into an agreement with Jake Plummer stemming from his decision to not play football last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers," said Buccaneers General Manager Bruce Allen in a statement on

"The agreement includes a repayment to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of a previously-paid signing bonus to Jake Plummer and additional economic consideration to the Buccaneers in the event Jake Plummer decides to resume his professional football career," said Allen.

The Buccaneers continue to have the rights to Plummer's services if he decides to come out of retirement and return to the NFL. The grievance hearing was scheduled to occur in New York on Wednesday. The ruling was scheduled to be made by an arbitrator. Plummer's contract ran through the 2010 season.

Early into free agency in 2007, the Buccaneers traded a seventh-round pick for the rights to Plummer. Tampa Bay tried to lure Plummer out of retirement several times, but to no avail. Bucs head coach Jon Gruden and Allen went as far as flying to Idaho to meet with Plummer last summer, but the quarterback couldn't be convinced to play football again.

In his four-year career with the Broncos, Plummer posted a 39-15 regular-season record, for a .722 winning percentage.

Plummer retired after completing 57.1 percent of his career passes for 29,253 yards and tossed 131 touchdowns and 131 interceptions. Plummer entered the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals in 1997 and then signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent.

The Bucs currently have five quarterbacks – Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Luke McCown, Chris Simms, Josh Johnson – on their roster.
