Buccaneer’s rookie quarterback Jameis Winston received a great deal of praise from CBSSports.com senior NFL columnist Pete Prisco last week in his latest column.
In his article, Prisco immediately tossed out the notion that Mike Glennon would be the opening day starter despite the third-year pro receiving the majority of first-team reps during OTAs. To that point, he believes Winston has already proved himself as the best QB in Tampa, saying that there’s no reason to delay moving the No. 1 pick to No. 1 on the depth chart.
“Name Winston the starter and move on,” Prisco writes. …”This is a player who could own Tampa Bay, a region starved for a quarterback.”
From his gunslinging mentality at practice to his work ethic and maturity, Prisco firmly believes that Tampa Bay made the right decision when they made Winston the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Pingback: Prisco On Bucs QB Situation: “Name Winston The Starter And Move On” | Buccaneer Bruce
I’m not sure the motive behind the obvious charade when the whole world knows that barring injury, Winston will be under center and Glenon will be assigned to the bench on opening day. It’s akin to having the choice between taking Jennifer Aniston or Rosanne Barr to the Prom. Maybe the team is just trying to show a little respect for nice guy Mike. But enough of that. My guess is that the opening day of Training Camp #3 will take over as “The Man.”
I know who the starting QB will be, you know who the starting QB will be, everybody (I assume) knows who the starting QB will be.
But just like the draft, even though most knew who the pick was going to be (I did), the Bucs had a process they adhered to and they have a process now for naming a starting QB.
Unlike the unholy anointing of Josh McKown as starter before camp last year, I support what they are doing this time and hope the results are entirely different from last year!
All players have to earn their starting position. Having said that, there is no doubt that Jameis Winston will do exactly that when the competition begins. Mike Glennon is still a guy I want on the team though. He has always been professional and performed as well as could be expected under the difficult circumstances he was put in.
Being a die-hard Noles fan, I was ECSTATIC when we got Jameis. We may finally, after 40 years, have a long-term franchise QB.
As a fellow die hard Nole fan myself, I was just as ecstatic as you were. Let’s hope things finally work out for us, I think we got the right kind of guy for this team.
