Former Buccaneers weakside linebacker Geno Hayes has reportedly found a new home, signing with the Chicago Bears according to the Chicago Tribune.

Hayes was a sixth-round draft pick in 2008 out of Florida State and earned the starting spot previously occupied by Bucs’ great Derrick Brooks in 2009. Hayes played well in 2009, starting 13 games, and recording 98 tackles and three sacks.

The former Nole had an even better 2010 season, starting all 16 games, while notching 82 tackles, four sacks and also returning an interception for a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.

Much was expected of Hayes in 2011 as he entered the final year of his contract, but the fourth-year pro, like the entire defense, failed to live up to expectations. Last season Hayes was benched for his poor play, and replaced in the lineup by Adam Hayward for two games. Hayes finished 2011 with just 64 tackles, no sacks and one interception.

Details of Hayes’ contract with the Bears were not released.
